MLB Betting – New York Yankees to get the Best of Verlander in Game 3 of ALCS

The New York Yankees find themselves with their backs against the wall heading into Tuesday night’s Game 3 ALCS MLB betting match-up with the Detroit Tigers at Bookmaker Sportsbook.
The Detroit Tigers ( 93-76, -$726 ) will look to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their ALCS match-up with the New York Yankees ( 98-71, $123 ) on Tuesday, October 16th when the teams collide in MLB betting action in Game 3; first pitch from Comerica Park is scheduled to get tossed live on TBS at 8:00 ET.
New York Yankees: +175 ( Hughes )
Detroit Tigers : -185 ( Verlander )
Total: 7 Under -120
Runs have been incredibly tough for the Yankees to come by in the postseason. This comes as quite troubling considering Manager Joe Girardi’s outfit was one of the best offensive teams in the league over the course of the regular season. Since tallying seven runs on 10 hits in Game 1 of the ALDS versus Baltimore, the Bronx Bombers have combined to tally a grand total of just 13 games the last six times they’ve taken to the diamond, and if not for Raul Ibanez’s late game heroics, NY might have already been eliminated from postseason contention. Also making the offense’s job that much harder has been the loss of team captain Derek Jeter at the top of the order.
The Yankees find themselves in a crucial spot heading into Game 3 of this MLB betting series. Another loss would find them on the cusp of elimination, while a win would get them right back in the series. Looking to build upon his solid effort in the ALDS will be Phil Hughes. He’ll enter this crucial spot 16-13 overall with a 4.14 ERA & 1.26 WHIP. NY stands 16-13 in his 32 overall starts to date, but he’s been at his worst away from Yankee Stadium where he’s 5-9 with a 4.76 ERA & .279 BAA. He’s 5-4 with a 4.22 ERA & .233 BAA versus Detroit all-time, and has been nothing short of dominant in five career Comerica starts going 3-2 with a 2.78 ERA & .193 BAA.
The Detroit Tigers are finally playing like the team many envisioned at the outset of the season. Though Manager Jim Leyland’s outfit has still cost its MLB betting supporters upwards of $700 on the year, that deficit has been cut into in the postseason after going 5-2 and earning upwards of $300 in profit after Anibal Sanchez and Phil Coke combined on a complete game shut-out to allow the Tigers to take the 2-0 lead with them back to Motown on Sunday night. They’ll now look to close the Yankees out at home where they stand undefeated in the postseason ( 2-0, $200 ) and nearly 20-games over .500 ( 50-31 ) for the season ( $379 ).
The Tigers starting pitching has been fantastic throughout the postseason, and most of the accolades are to go to Justin Verlander who tossed his squad to wins in Games 1 and 5 of the ALDS against the Athletics. So far, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner has thrown 16 innings of one ER ball and sports a fantastic 22:5 K/BB ratio during that stretch. Detroit has won 21 of his 33 overall starts, and he’s gone a dominating 9-2 with a 1.65 ERA & .187 WHIP in his 15 home starts. That said, he checks in just 5-4 with a 3.74 ERA & .272 BAA versus the Yankees through 13 career starts, and he gave up four HRs in his three starts versus them this season.
Free Prediction: The Yankees looked like hot garbage throughout the first two games of this series so much so that the home crowd turned on them raining down boos and heckles from the cheap seats. They have no chance at coming back in this MLB betting odds series… right? Wrong! If the regular season taught us anything, it’s that the Tigers have no idea how take advantage of charitable situations. Every time it grabbed the divisional lead, it gave it right back and then some. It is the team’s “MO” and I expect it to continue here in the second season.
NY has toppled the Tigers six of the L/8 times Verlander threw at them, and it’s 21-7 the L/28 times it played off a loss. On top of that, Hughes has led the Yanks to wins in 18 of his L/24 starts versus AL Central opposition. This club isn’t dead yet!
