Though the Ravens dropped their first preseason game, 13-6, to the Eagles last week, Baltimore’s starters came out firing behind quarterback, Joe Flacco. Flacco played just two series in the game but finished 3-6 for 60 yards and led the Ravens to a field goal on their opening possession. Virginia Tech rookie, Tyrod Taylor, took over for Flacco and finished with 179 yards, but he also threw a pair of interceptions. On defense, head coach John Harbaugh’s squad encountered a number of miscues including penalties and missed tackles, but overall, Harbaugh feels he has a strong squad on his hands once again in 2011; the question is now, how much can be corrected week to week.
“I think we’re going to a good football team,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “We have a chance to be great, but that is up to us. We should make our biggest improvements in the next week.” Perhaps newly acquired running back, Ricky Williams, will be one of the improvements as the veteran, who signed Monday, was inactive against the Eagles.
Baltimore (0-1), which will make its home debut on Friday, is 0-1 ATS in preseason NFL betting action; the ‘under’ has played to a 1-0 tally.
The Kansas City Chiefs have as good of a shot at winning the AFC West as anybody this season, but their performance against the Tampa Bay Bucs last week was surely one to forget. Critics aren’t judging, nor were they surprised about the Chiefs’ 25-0 shutout loss at home in their preseason opener, but there is some cause for concern in KC. With the lockout having pushed everything back in the preseason, Kansas City was slow out of the gate and hardly practiced in pads before taking the field against the Bucs, however, it was turnovers and poor decisions that left the Chiefs unprepared.
“Turning the ball over was a problem, not protecting the quarterback’s a problem. We’ve got a lot of work to do,” head coach Todd Haley said. “We knew we had a lot of work to do coming into this game.” Kansas City turned the ball over on two occasions and finished with just 137 yards of totals offense against Tampa Bay; that number should increase as the Chiefs settle in for the 2011 season.
Needless to say, Kansas City (0-1) is winless against the NFL betting odds this season (0-1) while the ‘under’ sits 1-0.
