NFL Betting Online:

The Houston Texans ( 4-0, 4-0 ATS ) will look to keep their perfect mark versus the NFL odds intact on Monday, October 8th when they invade MetLife Stadium looking to hand the New York Jets ( 2-2, 2-2 ATS ) back-to-back home defeats; all the Monday Night drama is set to go live on ESPN and Watch ESPN at 8:30 ET.

NFL Betting Lines

Houston Texans: -8
New York Jets: +8
Total: 41.5

The Texans figured to be one of the better teams in the league at the outset of the season after winning 10 games last season en route to qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. To say that this team has been dominating through the first quarter of the 2012 campaign would be quite the understatement, as they’ve gone on to throttle each of their first four opponents by an average of 17.5 points per game. Last week, Head Coach Gary Kubiak’s troops moved to 2-0 SU & ATS within the division after throttling the Tennessee Titans 38-14 as 13-point home chalk.

The team hasn’t been getting it done with smoke and mirrors either, as their 4-0 outright & NFL odds records are legit backed further by their impressive rankings on both sides of the ball. The offense checks in as the 2nd ranked scoring attack in the league, but it’s not because of the way it effortlessly goes up and down the field and ends drives with points. Instead, it’s the defense that has lent a helping hand forcing an AFC best nine takeaways which have set the offense up with a number of short field scoring chances. Still, the RB duo of Arian Foster and Ben Tate headlines the league’s ninth ranked rushing attack ( 136.5 YPG ).

Then there’s the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets! While I was down on the Jets heading into this NFL betting odds season, I far from thought it was going to be as ugly as this. QB Mark Sanchez is as lame duck a QB as can be. The offense can’t do anything with him leading their charge, and now he’s minus his best WR for the rest of the year after Santonio Holmes went down in agony during last week’s home debacle versus the Niners. Still, with him in the line-up, the Jets were still only passing for 197.5 yards per game ( #27 ). Now with him out, it will become even tougher to move the pigskin through the air against the Texans second ranked pass defense ( 182.8 YPG ) that’s only given up 6.0 yards per pass ( #2 ).

Making matters worse for this injury riddled squad is the fact that it’s done itself no favors either running or stopping opposing teams from doing so on them. The Jets are averaging just 86.5 YPG on the ground ( #24 ) on 3.2 YPC ( #30 ), while the defense has gotten gouged to the tune of 172.8 YPG ( #31 ) at 4.9 YPC ( #30 ). Add that all up and you have what looks to be a tasty recipe for disaster against a Texans team currently firing on all cylinders.

Free Pick – While I’m always one that gravitates to backing home underdogs – especially ones getting over a touchdown – I have neither an inclination nor desire to back Rex Ryan’s steaming hot pile of garbage in this NFL betting odds spot. The team is a joke. Their Week 1 dismantling of Buffalo was an anomaly. They should have lost in Miami and were blown out by both Pittsburgh and San Francisco. In actuality, they should be a sub .500 team entering Monday night.

As for Houston, it is currently the blueprint for excellence by playing lock down defense and moving the chains offensively evidenced by their 45.2 percent conversion rate on third down ( #6 ). As long as they can sustain drives and win the time of possession and turnover battles, they should be able to cover this hefty pointspread; even on the road on a Monday night! With the Jets 3-7 ATS following their L/10 SU defeats and Houston a lucrative 7-1 ATS their L/8 away from Reliant Stadium, look for the Texans to remain perfect both SU & ATS by posting the double-digit road win.
