College Football Lines – Purdue Boilermakers Good Enough To Hang With Ohio State Buckeyes
Written by Adam Markowitz of North Shore Sports, INC
The 2012 college football season is all revved up as we continue through the year. Here at Bookmaker Sportsbook, we’re here to help you beat the college football lines for the Purdue Boilermakers and the Ohio State Buckeyes, as we take a look at their Saturday Week 8 clash in the Big Ten Leaders Division.
The battle on the college football betting lines will be hot and heavy on Saturday, October 20th. The Purdue Boilermakers ( 3-3, 3-3 ATS ) and the Ohio State Buckeyes ( 7-0, 3-4 ATS ) are going to be squaring off against each other in a 12:00 ET kickoff at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, OH. This Week 8 NCAA football clash will be televised live on ABC or ESPN2 and Watch ESPN.
Purdue Boilermakers: +18
Ohio State Buckeyes: -18
Points could be plentiful in this one. The Boilermakers and the Buckeyes both have shown the ability to score some massive points, and both defenses have been shoddy as well. Purdue has scored 48+ in three of its first six games this year. Ohio State has put up at least 52 in back-to-back weeks. The Boilers have allowed at least 38 in three in a row. The Buckeyes have had 87 points dropped on them in the last two weeks, causing Head Coach Urban Meyer to have a defense-only meeting.
QB Braxton Miller might be the most dangerous man to face on the college football betting lines this year. He has thrown for 1,271 yards and 11 TDs with just four picks, and he is going to end up getting to 1,000 yards on the ground this week as well. Miller has 912 yards and nine trips to the end zone. RB Carlos Hyde also has 454 yards and seven TDs. WR Devin Smith is the top receiver on the team and is one of the best deep threats in the conference; he’s averaging 21.8 points per game and has six touchdowns.
Purdue uses its short passing game to beat the college football gambling lines. In fact, there isn’t a receiver on the team that has more than seven catches that is averaging more than 12.0 yards per reception. QB Caleb TerBush and the rest of the Boilermakers quarterbacks are averaging right around 6.25 yards per pass attempt.
That being said, the ground game is going to have to do some real damage. RB Akeem Shavers has rumbled for 324 yards and three TDs, and RB Akeem Hunt has averaged 11.2 yards per carry and has two TDs on the campaign. These two are going to have to make sure that they rip off some long runs to have any chance of beating the college football wagering lines.
Free Pick – The home team has won and covered three in a row in this series, but in the end, the Boilermakers are 6-2 ATS in the last eight. Purdue hasn’t played all that well of late, failing to cover three in a row, but this is the game in which it can get back on track. The Boilers might not win this one, but they are going to be able to challenge an OSU team that has looked awful defensively the last two weeks.
