ESPN will provide the national television broadcast starting at 10:15 ET.
Though USC is undefeated, the Sun Devils enter as 2.5-point college football wagering favorites on Saturday while the O/U rests at 54.5.
One week after stunning then ranked Missouri in overtime, the Arizona State Sun Devils suffered a major let down to send them back down to earth and unfortunately out of the Top 25. Though quarterback Brock Osweiler threw for 256 yards and a touchdown while adding the Devils’ second TD on the ground, the 6-foot-8 junior was picked off twice as ASU fell 17-14 to the Illinois Fighting Illini in Champagne. “They brought a lot of pressure,” Osweiler said. “Shoot, it seemed like every snap.”
“You can’t have bad plays, you can’t have turnovers. I had three of them alone,” Osweiler said. “The margin for error is tiny on the road.” Arizona State out gained the Illini by over 100 yards and controlled the ball for three minutes more than its host, but for the second straight week, the Sun Devils allowed their opponents to score late in the ballgame.
Arizona State (2-1) has yet to defeat the college football wagering lines this season (0-3 ATS) while the ‘over’ sits at 2-1 through the team’s first three contests. The Devils are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five conference games while the ‘over’ has played to a 5-2 tally the last seven times they hosted the Trojans in Tempe.
Many might not agree, but some credit should be given to USC head coach Lane Kiffin for going out and front loading the Trojans’ non conference schedule with BCS opponents. USC took down Minnesota in its opener, followed it up with a conference win over new addition, Utah, and then came out in week three to down Big East foe Syracuse at the Coliseum in Los Angeles.
Junior signal caller, Matt Barkley, made USC fans all but forget about Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart with his 324 yard, five touchdown performance against the Orange, and in impressive fashion, all of Barkley’s touchdowns were caught by different receivers. USC snapped a streak of six games without surpassing 30 points in the win as well. Robert Woods led the Trojans with 82 receiving yards while backup running back, Curtis McNeal, paced USC with 79 rushing yards on just five carries.
USC is a perfect 3-0 on the season but just 2-1 against the college football wagering odds; the ‘under’ is 2-1 as well. Though the Trojans are 10-2 ATS their L/12 when dogged on the road, they also stand a poor 1-5 ATS their L/6 overall meetings with the Sun Devils.
