NBA Betting Odds

  • Los Angeles Lakers (+8) -110
  • Oklahoma City Thunder (-8) -110
  • Total: 192

Off its huge Game 3 win that saw them just barely cover the closing spread, the Lakers took the court not 24 hours later looking to tie their series up with the Thunder on Saturday night. Everything looked to be on the up and up early with LA racing out to a five point lead after one quarter of play (29-24), and then extended it to 10 points after outscoring OKC 27-22 in the second stanza. Kobe Bryant looked to be a man possessed as he drained shot after shot from the field and attacked the rim with reckless abandon.

While he finished up with a game-high 38 points on 12-of-28 shooting from the field, and Metta World Peace made an impact with 14 points and six boards when he went to the bench, it just wasn’t enough to secure the series tying NBA betting odds win. The reason for coming up short once again in large part points in the direction of both Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. While they combined for 28 points, they hardly took control of the glass (14 combined rebounds) which allowed OKC to compete in that category (42-38). The loss was the Lakers second at home in the second season, and they’ll now have to stave off elimination on the road where they’re 1-4 SU & 2-3 ATS this postseason.

In pulling out the closing moments come-from-behind win, the Thunder put an end to their playoff losing streak in Tinseltown that dated all the way back to 1980! Oklahoma City simply looked to have no shot at winning Game 4 early on. Every time they closed the gap to seven points over the course of the first three quarters, LA would go on a run to push the lead back to double-digits. Still, Head Coach Scott Brooks’ squad never gave up, and when you have the trio of Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and James Harden flying around the court, you’re never 100 percent out of any NBA odds tussle.

That proved to exactly be the case on Saturday night. OKC outscored the Lakers 25-24 in the 3rd quarter to trim the deficit to nine. They then proceeded to come up with big shot after big shot, and forced a number of turnovers to get themselves right back in the game. Westbrook ended up going for a team-high 37 points, but it was the long range shot off the fingertips of Kevin Durant that will go down as the most memorable moment of Game 4. With the score tied and the game clock running out, KD calmly let fly a 3-ball that connected to silence the boisterous Staples Center crowd. After salting the rest of the game away from the free throw line, OKC moved to 7-1 SU & 4-3-1 ATS in the playoffs.

NBA Betting Pick: For all intents and purposes, LA has dominated each of the last three games in this series. They choked away what looked to be a surefire win at OKC in Game 2, won Game 3, and then let Game 4 get away from them in the closing moments. And now they’re back to getting all those points at OKC. We liked what we heard from LA in the post-game pressers, and the looks in their eyes didn’t make it seem as if they’d given up hope in this series. With LA 6-1-1 ATS following its L/8 SU losses paired with Oklahoma City’s 1-5 ATS mark its L/6 home games, we’re going to back LA in this do or die spot. While we don’t think they ultimately win the game, we expect the final spread to be shorter than what’s currently being suggested.
