NBA Odds – Pacers to hang in San Antonio with the Spurs Saturday Night
Written by North Shore Sports, INC
The Indiana Pacers will be out for some respect when they invade the Alamo on Saturday night to battle the San Antonio Spurs against the NBA odds at Bookmaker Sportsbook.
The San Antonio Spurs (35-14, 30-18-1 ATS) will be in search of their second seven-game win streak of the 2011-12 NBA odds season on Saturday, March 31st when they welcome the upstart Indiana Pacers (29-20, 23-26 ATS) into the AT&T Center; catch this one live on NBA League Pass at 8:30 ET.
The Pacers scratched out a total of 69 combined regular season wins the last two years, but Head Coach Frank Vogel has his young Pacers outfit are firmly on the precipice of producing their first +.500 effort since the 2004-05 season. This is due in large part to a tremendous combination of young and veteran talent that’s seen Indiana scratch out wins in 29 of their 49 games played on the year. In doing so, the Pacers are in second place within the Central Division – though they trail the top seeded Bulls by 10.5-games.
Still, you can’t help but be impressed with what the Pacers have done to date. They went into the All Star break winners of four in a row, and managed to keep it together post gala by going 8-8 both straight up and versus the closing NBA odds. They’ll head into Thursday night’s home clash with the Washington Wizards off a disappointing 100-84 loss at New Jersey, but a letdown was expected in that spot after they earned their first triumph of the season against Miami their previous game. In all, Indiana has won 14 of its 27 games played away from Bankers Life Fieldhouse and have covered 13 of those games against the closing number.
The Spurs went on to win the Western Conference last season, but they closed their regular season schedule out in poor form and then went on to become one of the few #1 seeds in postseason history to get knocked off by a #8 seed. Head Coach Gregg Popovich has an extremely deep and talented roster at his disposal this season, and unlike last year’s team that faltered down the stretch, the Spurs seem to be getting better as the regular season hits the home stretch. They’ve won each of their L/6 games and in that win streak came an impressive three wins in three days against Dallas, New Orleans, and Philadelphia.
San Antonio possesses an offensive attack that can match up well in NBA betting odds action with the Western Conference leading Oklahoma City Thunder, but surprisingly, the defense leaves much to be desired. The unit has given up an average of 96.4 PPG (#17) while allowing its opposition to shoot 45.4 percent from the field (#20) and convert on 36.0 percent of their shots from downtown (#23). They’ve been able to get away with that style of play against the West, but could have trouble versus Eastern Conference teams that are more adept at the defensive end of the court should they make it to the Finals.
NBA Odds Prediction: This will be the one and only meeting between these teams in this strike shortened season. The Spurs have won each of the L/8 times they locked horns with the Pacers, but we’re looking for Danny Granger and his mates to give SA a run for its money in tonight’s spot. Indy’s only 6-9 SU versus the 15 teams it’s opposed ranked in the Top 10 of the Sagarin Ratings, but they’ve beaten each of the L/3 teams they took on under that scenario and covered the pointspread with ease in all three tussles. Grab as many points as you can here and root the Pacers onto the cover!
Will the Pacers be able to go into tonight’s hostile venue and earn the NBA odds win, or will the Spurs continue their torrid streak towards the postseason and slay yet another solid opponent.
