NBA Betting – Defending Champion Mavericks to put Linsanity on Hold
Written by North Shore Sports, INC
Sunday’s NBA betting action tips off at Bookmaker Sportsbook with the “Linsane” New York Knicks welcoming in the defending champion Dallas Mavericks for an afternoon delight in the Big Apple.
The New York Knicks (15-15, 14-16 ATS) will look to build upon their recent stellar play on Sunday, February 19th when they battle the Dallas Mavericks (19-11, 18-12 ATS) against the NBA betting lines; the Madison Square Garden tip is set to go live on ABC at 1:00 ET. Don’t miss it!
Since getting out to a 1-4 SU & 2-3 ATS start to their 2011-12 campaign, the defending champs have been one of the more consistent teams in the league having only dropped back-to-back games on just two occasions. Because of it, Head Coach Rick Carlisle’s troops now only sit two-games in back of the Southwest Division leading San Antonio Spurs heading into Friday night’s road clash with the 76ers. Last we saw the Mavs in action, they flat out took it to the Denver Nuggets winning 102-84 as seven-point home chalk.
The win was the teams fifth in a row and fourth in their last five against the closing NBA betting line. Though Dirk Nowitzki only managed to tally 12 points, the rest of the team combined to shoot 46.2 percent from the field which included a 10-of-26 showing from beyond the arc to pull out the dominating home win and cover. Dallas has had its fair share of problems scoring the basketball to date (#16 at 95.0 PPG), but the Mavs bring it defensively game in and game out evidenced by the 91.3 PPG (#5) and 41.7 percent shooting percentage (#2) allowed to their opposition on the year. Dallas has tallied most of its wins at home (12-5 SU), but it is a +.500 team away from the American Airlines Center having won seven of their 13 road tussles (8-5 ATS).
Everywhere you look, the name Jeremy Lin pops up. From Time Magazine to Sports Illustrated, the phenom otherwise known as Jeremy Lin has taken the nation by storm and doesn’t look to be letting up its grip anytime soon. A player like Lin is exactly what the Knicks needed to turn their disastrous season around. Remember, before he started his first game at point guard for the Knicks against the Utah Jazz, New York sat six games under .500 and only managed to put forth pointspread covers in nine of their 24 played games.
However since, the Knicks are the hottest team in the league having beaten the likes of Utah, Washington, the Lakers, Minnesota, Toronto, and Sacramento heading into Friday night’s home clash with the New Orleans Hornets; the fact that they’ve gone 6-1 ATS with Lin getting max playing time only adds to the fever pitch of this mega story. Still, the Knicks are a flawed basketball team at both ends of the court. While the offense has flourished with #17 at the helm (98.0 PPG), the defense is still erratic at best giving up 94.1 PPG (#13) and a 36.1 percent conversion rate from beyond the arc (#23). On top of that, Tyson Chandler hasn’t helped as much as advertised in the rebounding department evidenced by the team getting outrebounded by nearly a board per game.
NBA Betting Pick: Whenever the Knicks show up on the Mavs schedule, they get excited – and why not – the defending champs have won nine of the L/10 meetings SU and covered the pointspread in seven of those games. This will no doubt be the toughest defense that the Knicks will have seen with Lin navigating, and he’s already proven to be a turnover machine having averaged 6.0 per game since taking over at point guard. With the Mavericks one of the better teams at forcing the opposition to cough the ball up (#7 at 16.1 TO/game), look for their defense to dominate this skirmish and put an end to all the “Linsanity”; at least for one day.
So will the Mavericks spoil the MSG party or will “Linsanity” run rampant for yet another game? For the most NBA betting options in the industry, back your opinion on this and other hoops match-ups at Bookmaker right now!
