NBA Odds – Lin and the Knicks to Weather the Heat in South Beach
Written by North Shore Sports, INC
The first half of the NBA odds season comes to a close at Bookmaker Sportsbook with a doozy in Miami where LeBron James and the Heat will get their first taste of Jeremy Lin and the revitalized New York Knicks.
Stars will be littered all over the court in the first half of TNT’s NBA odds doubleheader on Thursday, February 23rd when the Jeremy Lin led New York Knicks (16-17, 15-18 ATS) match up with the Miami Heat (25-7, 17-15 ATS) for the second time this season; the American Airlines Arena tip is scheduled for 7:00 ET.
Waffling in mediocrity just two and a half weeks ago, the Knicks were badly in need of something to spark what had been an excruciating start to their 2011-12 campaign. With superstars Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire both sidelined for different reasons, New York started to play the way it had been envisioned before Coach Mike D’Antoni brought his offensive schemes to the Big Apple. The reason for NY’s unbelievable turnaround came in the form of a point guard that was on the brink of getting cut the exact same day he took the NBA world by storm.
Ever since, Jeremy Lin has continued to dazzle stepping up with huge performances when they were needed most. Though the Knicks did drop a 100-92 decision to the woeful Nets as nine-point NBA betting odds favorites on Monday night, the squad has secured wins in eight of its L/10 match-ups (7-3 ATS) heading into Wednesday night’s clash with the Atlanta Hawks. In doing so, New York cut its deficit in the Atlantic Division to just 4.5-games and now finds itself comfortably within the Eastern Conference playoff picture. New York has won and covered all three of its road games with Lin running the offense, and will storm South Beach 7-8 SU & ATS away from Madison Square Garden on the year.
The Heat enter Tuesday night’s home clash with the Sacramento Kings as the top dog in the Eastern Conference at 25 games up and only seven games down. Head Coach Eric Spoelstra’s squad is currently in excellent form having won each of their last six games and nine of their L/10 to grab a comfortable 4.5-game lead over the Orlando Magic atop the Southeast Division. They’ve simply destroyed their NBA odds opposition during the current winning streak beating the likes of Washington, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Indiana, Cleveland, and Orlando by an average of 17.7 points per game.
The last time the Heat took to their home court, they toyed with the Orlando Magic beating them 90-78 in a game that was hardly as close as the final score suggests. The win was the teams seventh in a row in front of the hometown faithful and moved D-Wade and his mates to 13-2 SU & 8-7 ATS as hosts for the year (SAC Pending). Miami had gotten off to a rough start defensively but its offense was able to continuously bail it out. That hasn’t been the case of late as the Heat have only given up an average of 88.8 PPG over their L/10; nearly 5.5-points less than their seasonal average of 94.2 PPG (#12).
NBA Odds Prediction: From February of 2009 to December of 2010, the Heat won each of these teams six overall meetings and covered five of those games against the closing number. However, the last four meetings have all been closely contested with the Knicks earning two outright victories, but most importantly, covering all four games. Miami took these teams lone meeting this season by a 99-89 final count at home, but the Knicks covered the 12-point closing spread; pre-Lin. With the Knicks seemingly stepping up for every national broadcast it’s participated in over the last couple weeks, we have no choice but to back them here plus the points and look for “Linsanity” to wreak havoc on the Eastern Conference’s #1 seed.
So will Lin and the Knicks even up their season series with the Heat, or will Miami put an end to its four-game NBA odds losing streak to New York? You can back your opinion on this and other match-ups at Bookmaker Sportsbook right now – the top ranked and most respected sportsbook in the world.
