Baseball Odds – Angels Pujols and Yankees A-Rod set to Collide in the Bronx
Written by North Shore Sports, INC
American League heavyweights will feel each other out on Saturday when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and New York Yankees partake in their first baseball odds clash of the season at Bookmaker Sportsbook.
The stars will be out in full force for Saturday, April 14th’s baseball odds clash in the Bronx between the Los Angeles Angels (2-3, -$310) and New York Yankees (3-3, -$35) when the teams partake in Game 2 of their weekend series; FOX will carry the live telecast of this one starting at 1:05 ET.
The start of the 2012 season hasn’t gone quite as planned for Manager Mike Scioscia’s Halos. After dropping two of three to the upstart Kansas City Royals, the Angels split their first two against a Minnesota Twins team that got swept by the Baltimore Orioles in their first series of the year. High prized free agent acquisition Albert Pujols is yet to go yard while donning an Angels’ uniform, but C.J. Wilson did earn a win in his LA debut after tossing seven innings of one earned run ball in the 5-1 series opening win. They’ll be in search of their first series win on Thursday with Haren on the bump.
The lack of a power surge (#28 with 2 HR) has been very surprising with the roster stacked with names like Hunter, Morales, Kendrick, Pujols, and Trumbo, but the offense has hit .257 as a team (#8) and has scored an average of 4.20 runs per game (#13). Save for Jered Weaver’s stellar debut (8 IP 4 H 10 K 0 ER), the Angels have only gotten one other quality baseball odds start (#24) in their first five games. That said; the bullpen has been second to none as it entered Thursday’s rubber match with the Twinkies #1 in the league with a collective 1.50 ERA and a .190 batting average against (#7).
The Yankees were flat out embarrassed in their first series of the season getting swept by the Rays at the Trop. Not one starter managed to churn out a quality start, and their potent offense was outhit 29-19 in the three-game set. With the NY tabloids in a state of panic calling for the end of the Yankees reign atop the AL East, NY quietly went about its business in its next series at Baltimore by sweeping the O’s at Camden Yards.
Ivan Nova tossed a gem in the series opener (10 hits 7 IP 2 ER 7 K 0 BB) to register his first triumph of the 2012 season. It was a bullpen match-up in Game 2, but when it was said and done, Mariano Rivera notched his first baseball betting odds save of the season in the bottom of the 12th; it was the 604th of his esteemed career! The finale once again went to extra innings, but the end result was just the same as New York scratched across two runs in the top of the 10th on Nick Swisher’s homer to move the squad to an even 3-3 for the year.
Baseball Odds Breakdown: The Yankees took five of the teams nine overall clashes a year ago; the ‘under’ cashed in five of those contests. NY won two of the three at Yankees Stadium and has won seven of the L/10 times the Angels paid a visit to Gotham. C.J. Wilson is yet to secure a win against the Yankees in four career starts, but his numbers were still decent (3.80 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, .236 BAA) in those outings; he’s given up just 17 hits and seven ER over the course of the 18.2 overall innings he’s thrown at Yankee Stadium. Phil Hughes will attempt to be more economical with his pitches after throwing a whopping 99 of them to get through just 4 2/3rd innings against the Rays in his debut. He’s 17-10 with a 5.01 ERA through 38 starts in front of the hometown faithful, but has been hit to the tune of a 6.20 ERA and given up 19 hits through 20.1 total innings pitched versus Anaheim.
