What a ride the Giants have taken their fans and betting backers on over the course of the last five weeks! After dropping a 23-10 decision to the NFC East rival Washington Redskins at home in Week 15, it looked as if Head Coach Tom Coughlin’s squad was going to miss out on second season action for the third straight year. However, the GMEN went into do or die mode and circled the wagons in their final two regular season match-ups against the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys and snagged wins as well as covers to punch their ticket to the playoffs. Since then, NY trounced the Atlanta Falcons in the Wild Card round and then went on the road to both Green Bay and San Francisco in successive weeks to once again tackle the Super Bowl betting lines.

The main constant for the Giants over the course of this tremendous run has been the play of the defense and the right arm of QB Eli Manning. Though NY had a number of bounces go its way last week in the misty haze by the Bay, Manning stood tall in the pocket and took a number of hits, but still found a way to get the job done to lead his team to victory. With everything on the line during the current winning streak, Eli has been at his best throwing for an average of 298.8 yards per game and 12 TDs to just two interceptions. Now he gets to throw into a Patriots defense that comes in giving up an average of 293.9 passing YPG (#31). New York has been at its best away from MetLife Stadium going 7-3 SU & ATS.

It’s been three long seasons since the Patriots last found themselves in a position to compete against the Super Bowl betting odds, and it just so happens that the last time they did, they fell to these same New York Giants. The loss prevented Brady and his mates to go down in history as the most dominating team ever, ultimately allowing the 1972 Miami Dolphins to remain the last team to go undefeated in the regular season and win the Super Bowl. Away from Foxboro to date, the Patriots possess 6-2 SU & 5-3 ATS records.

Though they also got a gift from the gambling gods in the form of a shanked chip shot field goal off the leg of Ravens K Billy Cundiff last week, the Patriots did exactly what was asked of them to get to this point. Everyone is firmly aware of just how potent the offense is with Brady continuously looking to WR Wes Welker as well as TEs Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez to make big plays in the hurry up offense, but absolutely no one is a believer in the defense. Sure, the unit doesn’t rank out favorably in a number of categories, but it’s only surrendered an average of 21.4 PPG (#15) for the year. In a league now dominated by offense, that’s a pretty decent number to allow when backed up by the third highest scoring attack (32.1 PPG).

Super Bowl Betting Prediction – Initially, we were all over the Giants when the line was released just moments after Championship Sunday concluded. However, we now feel that oddsmakers are leading the pigs to slaughter having juiced the heck out of the Giants at (+3) with some 2.5’s on the board as well. Bill Belichick is not a coach any team wants to face twice in the same season; especially if they beat him the first time around. On top of that, he now gets two weeks to compile a gameplan to combat what NY did well against him the last two times his squad lined up against them. New York might stand a perfect 8-0 ATS the L/8 times it went off the board dogged in the playoffs as well as an impressive 13-4-1 ATS the L/18 times it was dogged up to three points, but New England is 4-1 SU & 3-1-1 ATS the L/5 times it was favored by four-points or less as well as 9-3 ATS the L/12 times Brady’s offense got to do their thing in a dome. And this time, they’re laying a much more reasonable number than the 13-points they laid in Super Bowl XLII. Don’t be one of the many sheep blindly backing the Giants for those reasons – the Lombardi Trophy is going to the Pats!
