The downward spiral that has been the defending NFC North champion Chicago Bears’ season continued last week at home where head coach Lovie Smith’s squad dropped their fourth straight game to the recently charging Seattle Seahawks. The Bears are now one loss away from matching their five-game winning streak that took place through Weeks 6-11, and because of it, find their playoff chances on life-support with only two games left in the regular season. Chicago really seemed to find its stride offensively back in Week 6 at home against Minnesota through their Week 11 match-up with San Diego scoring an average of 32.2 PPG. Unfortunately, injuries to all their impact players on that side of the ball have made that unit close to impossible to watch over the last month.

After QB Jay Cutler went down with a broken thumb on his throwing hand, offensive coordinator Mike Martz was forced to turn to Caleb Hanie. Bears fans and their NFL betting lines backers quickly found out that Hanie just doesn’t possess the goods to be a starting quarterback in this league. Since taking over, the Colorado State product has thrown for just 613 yards while completing 50 percent of his passes with a TD/INT ratio of 3/9. When RB Matt Forte went down with a knee injury in Chicago’s disgusting 10-3 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bears offense got even worse – it’s scored an average of just 11.8 PPG the L/4 weeks. Things look bleak at best for this club to once again go to the second season considering they stand just 2-4 SU & 3-3 ATS in their six road games played to date.

It had to happen sooner or later and last week it did as the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers lost a game for the first time in a calendar year after falling at Arrowhead Stadium 19-14 as 13 point favorites. Though that was big news throughout NFL circles and gave the talking heads on ESPN much to talk about, the bigger news came in the form of mass injuries across the offensive line. Tackle Bryan Bulaga is listed as questionable this week with a knee strain while the other starting tackle, Derek Sherrod, is done for the year after breaking his right leg. With the instability in front of him, QB Aaron Rodgers was under duress throughout the entirety of the NFL betting clash getting sacked four times against what had been a poor Chiefs’ pass rush while throwing for a season low 235 yards.

Still, head coach Mike McCarthy’s squad is very familiar with overcoming injuries, as his team was completely decimated by the injury bug a year ago, but still ran roughshod throughout the playoffs en route to the franchises fourth Super Bowl triumph. Provided Green Bay at the very least splits its last two home games of the season, they will lock up a first round bye as well as home field advantage through the postseason. Look for that result to come to fruition considering Green Bay stands a perfect 6-0 SU & 5-1 ATS as a host beating its opposition by an average of 22 PPG.

NFL Betting Prediction – It’s not often you find a Chicago Bears team that plays a stellar brand of defense this hefty an underdog. However, with absolutely nothing backing them up on the offensive side of the ball, we simply don’t see them being able to hang with the Packers let alone cover this spread. Granted, it’s a division rivalry and one of the best the league has to offer, but this one’s going to get ugly in a hurry and we simply don’t see the defense breaking its back to get nothing in return. Green Bay stands a perfect 4-0 ATS following its L/4 SU defeats as well as 8-0 ATS following its L/8 pointspread defeats; look for both streaks to remain intact once the final gun goes off in this one!

Will Chicago spoil Christmas in the Land of Cheese, or will the Packers wipe the taste of last week’s NFL betting loss out of their mouths and take it to their most hated rival?
