Monday Night Football Betting – Dolphins prove Feisty in AFC East battle with the Jets
Written by North Shore Sports, INC
Week 6 of the 2011-12 NFL season comes to a close at Bookmaker Sportsbook with a Monday Night Football betting match-up in the AFC East between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets.
NFL Betting Online:
The New York Jets (2-3, 1-4 ATS) find themselves in a must win Monday Night Football betting spot at MetLife Stadium where they’ll battle the division rival Miami Dolphins (0-4, 0-3-1 ATS) in Week 6 on October 17th; ESPN will handle the live national telecast starting at 8:30 ET.
NFL Betting Lines
Miami Dolphins (+7) -110
New York Jets (-7) -110
Over/Under 42.5
The Dolphins find themselves in the unenviable position of looking to snag their first win of the season against a division opponent that returns home with its tails between its legs after dropping each of its last three. On top of it, the offense will now be led by QB Matt Moore who came on in relief of Chad Henne when he went down with an injury early on in the Fins Week 4 loss at San Diego. Miami did ink Sage Rosenfels to a contract during its bye week, but the former Carolina Panthers field general will get the start tonight.
Hopefully he can help the Dolphins improve upon their turnover margin by not throwing passes to the other team. Before Henne went down with a season ending shoulder injury, he had thrown as many INTs (4) as TD passes (4). Moore would be wise to limit his mistakes in this Monday Night Football betting contest against a Jets defense that’s already forced 11 turnovers with seven of them coming by way of interception. Another way to help alleviate the turnover concerns would be to look to rookie RB Daniel Thomas who’s rushed for 202 yards and averaged 4.9 YPC in the two games he suited up for. New York has been gouged to the tune of 135 rushing YPG, and figures to get taken advantage of there once again with the trio of Thomas, Reggie Bush and Steve Slaton.
The Jets teams that made it to the AFC Championship game each of the last two seasons are far from the version that has taken to the field for head coach Rex Ryan in 2011. In fact, you can hardly recognize these guys with the way this year’s team has gone about its business.
For starters, the Jets once prided themselves on running the ball down their opponent’s throats. Heading into this Monday Night Football betting lines spot, the 2011 Jets have rushed for an average of just 76 YPG (2nd to last in the league). Granted, Nick Mangold has been out of action, but he returned to the line-up last week and NY failed to surpass the century mark against a Patriots defense that had given up over 100 YPG going into the match-up. Defensively, the Jets used to stuff the run and dare the opposition to throw into the secondary with “Revis Island” completely shutting down their #1 receiver. To say the Jets have been brutal against the run would be doing a disservice to the word brutal.
Monday Night Football Betting Prediction – These teams split their pair of meetings a season ago with Miami winning on the road 10-6 as five-point underdogs and the Jets winning in the Dolphins own backyard 31-23 as one-point underdogs; the road team has won six of the L/7 meetings with the underdog going 6-1 ATS during that stretch. Five weeks into the season, there’s really nothing you can say positive about either of these teams. With both teams desperate for a win – even more so for Miami – look for both clubs to pull out all the stops just to win the game. With that the case, asking NY to do so by more than a TD looks too tall a task. Take the points in this desperation bout between a pair of division rivals very familiar with what the other will try to do.
Whether you plan on taking the points with the Dolphins or laying the chalk with the Jets for this AFC East Monday Night Football betting clash, be sure to take advantage of the bevy of lines offered up for this match-up at Bookmaker Sportsbook.
