Monday Night Football Betting – Lions move to 5-0 in Low Scorer with Bears
Written by North Shore Sports, INC
Week 5 of the 2011-12 NFL season closes shop at Bookmaker Sportsbook with a Monday Night Football betting match-up in the NFC North between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions.
NFL Betting Online:
The Detroit Lions (4-0, 3-0-1 ATS) will look to remain perfect on Monday, October 10th when they welcome the division rival Chicago Bears (2-2 SU, 1-3 ATS) into Ford Field for the first Monday Night Football betting contest in the venue in over a decade; the live kick-off on ESPN is scheduled for 8:30 ET.

Chicago Bears (+5) -110

This is an enormous litmus test for head coach Lovie Smith’s squad. The Bears have played through a rigorous first quarter of their 2011-12 campaign beating the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers, while getting embarrassed against the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints.
Last week’s home game against Carolina was interesting to say the least. Though it did pull out the win by a 34-29 final count, the defense, which is supposed to be one of Chicago’s strengths, surrendered a whopping 543 yards to rookie QB Cam Newton and the Panthers offense. On the flipside, the offense mustered a total of just 317 yards against a Carolina defense that had given up a total of 68 points (22.7 PPG) over the first three weeks of the season. However, 14 of the Bears 34 overall points scored came via defensive and special teams’ scores, so QB Jay Cutler and his mates were held below the Panthers seasonal averages.
Though Chicago failed to really make hay in the grand scheme of things, what it did do was finally get RB Matt Forte going on the ground. He went off for 205 yards and a score while averaging an impressive 8.2 YPC. Detroit just so happens to be porous against opposing ground games (#20 at 113 YPG), so it would behoove Chicago to once again look to its rushing attack in this Monday Night Football betting spot to shorten the game and keep the Lions potent offensive attack on the sidelines.
What else can you say about the 2011-12 Detroit Lions? The team pulled off yet another come-from-behind win in Dallas last week to steal a 34-30 decision and move to 4-0 SU on the year. Coach Jim Schwartz and his staff seem to be making all the right corrections at the half while calling all the right plays, and because of it, find themselves in a position to move to 5-0 for the first time in the franchise’s history since 1956.
Down 27-3 with a bulk of the second half remaining, Detroit pick-sixed Dallas QB Tony Romo in back-to-back drives to draw to within 10. The defense then allowed a Dan Bailey FG to extend the lead to 13, but the Lions did the remainder of the scoring to pull off the improbable road victory. The pass and catch combo of QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson looks to be, in a word – unstoppable!
The duo has already hooked up for eight TDs on the year, or two in each game played; whichever way you want to look at it. With the Lions only giving up five QB sacks to date, and Chicago being mediocre in the sacking department thus far, it looks as if this combo is set to go off against a Bears secondary badly in need of safety help (#25 at 211.5 YPG).
Monday Night Football Betting Prediction – The Bears have dominated this division rivalry of late winning each of the L/6 match-ups. In fact, the last game Detroit lost of any kind came last year in Week 13 to these same Bears in tonight’s venue by a 24-20 final tally as five-point dogs. The changing of the guard will come full circle tonight. Chicago will look to shorten the game as much as possible with the duo of Forte and Barber, but it won’t be enough. The Bears might be 6-1 SU & 5-1 ATS on Monday Night Football of late, but this is a huge spot for the Lions who have covered each of their L/4 as a home chalk. Look for them to do so once again in a hard fought low scoring black and blue division battle!
