The Houston Texans (8-3, 7-3-1 ATS) will look to build upon one of the AFC’s best records on Sunday, December 4th, 2011 when they host the Atlanta Falcons (7-4, 4-6-1 ATS) in pro football betting action from Reliant Stadium; all the action is set to begin on FOX starting at 1:00 ET.

It’s taken some time for Head Coach Mike Smith and his staff to get the Falcons back to playing the type of ball that saw them win 13 games in the regular season en route to the NFC’s top overall seed a year ago. After managing just a pair of wins through their first five games (Philadelphia & Seattle), the Falcons have won five of their last six while posting a 4-2 mark ATS to once again become relevant in the NFC race. Only an overtime loss at home to the division rival Saints has slowed their mojo down during that stretch. Since falling at Chicago and Tampa Bay their first two away from the dome, Atlanta’s won each of its last three road skirmishes (2-1 ATS) at Seattle, Detroit, and Indianapolis.

The Falcons enter this Week 13 pro football betting road battle with the Texans in fine form having just disposed of the Minnesota Vikings with relative ease. Though they once again took their foot off the gas in the second half after building a comfy lead, the defense stepped up in a big way late by coming up with a goal line stand that preserved the pointspread cover. QB Matt Ryan’s been locked in of late possessing QB ratings of 110 or better the last two weeks, but will now be forced to throw into the toughest pass defense (#2 at 175.8 YPG) he’s faced since going up against Detroit back in Week 7.

The Houston Texans have yet to qualify for the playoffs since becoming a member of the league back in 2002. Head Coach Gary Kubiak and his staff have been oh so close through the years, but never ultimately got over the hump. This year was expected to be different, and it was – I mean, still is – heading into this non-conference match-up with the streaking Falcons. If missing out on the league’s best rusher, Arian Foster, to start the year wasn’t enough to make Texans backers sick to their stomachs, the football gods proved to be relentless in taking their best wide receiver, Andre Johnson, for a multiple game stretch as well.

Still, the Texans persevered and managed to rip right through the opposition. Including last week when they went into Jacksonville and handed the division rival Jaguars a 20-13 home loss as six-point pro football betting lines underdogs. It was Jack Del Rio’s last game as the Jags coach, oh, and did I mention the Texans still got the job done with back-up QB Matt Leinart… I mean, third string rookie QB TJ Yates? That’s right, the Texans are now down to their third string QB and brought in both Kellen Clemens and the pick-six throwing Jake Delhomme to mentor the young buck. Houston’s been tripped up just once at home to date by Oakland who looked to be the benefactor of a very questionable game deciding call; they’ve covered in each of the four wins.

Pro Football Betting Prediction – The timing of this one couldn’t be worse for the hosts. Most of their walking wounded has returned to the starting line-up, but now, they must face a hungry Atlanta team in search of wins looking to chase down both Chicago and Detroit in the Wild Card race. The Falcons have won and covered four of the L/7 times they were installed road favorites of three-points or less, and stand 7-1 ATS the L/8 times they battled a +.500 home team. With Yates in control of this explosive offense and the fact that Houston checks in with a poor 1-5 ATS tally the L/6 times it was dogged, look for Matt Ryan and his mates to make the most of this opportunity and snag the crucial road win and cover!
