It was only a month ago that the Texans were able to beat the NFL betting lines in fantastic fashion at Paul Brown Stadium against this Cincinnati team in the dying seconds. That win came on the day that Houston clinched the AFC South and put it in the postseason for the very first time in franchise history.

Since that point, both teams have been shaky at best. The Texans haven’t won a game, and though the Bengals went 2-1 SU and 1-1-1 ATS in that stretch, the wins were difficult and came against the St. Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinals.

In fact, that has been a point of emphasis this year for both of these teams. The Texans only beat these Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers this year in terms of playoff teams. Cincinnati went 9-0 against non-playoff teams and 0-7 against playoff teams.

The other theme of the day when we analyze the NFL gambling lines is the fact that both teams are using rookie quarterbacks. Andy Dalton was the starting signal caller from the first day that he stepped into the Queen City after the NFL Draft, and he has had a respectable season, throwing for 3,398 yards and 20 TDs against 13 picks.

TJ Yates is a bit of a different story for the Texans, though. He wasn’t even suited in the first 11 weeks of the season, and he was thrown into backup duties in Week 12 after Matt Schaub was placed on IR. By the end of the first half of his very first game in uniform, Yates was in the game after Matt Leinart went down. Now, Yates becomes the very unlikely first quarterback in Texans history to take a snap in a postseason game.

NFL Lines Pick – Though the Texans are 6-2-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall, we just don’t like their chances in this one. The Bengals are young, but they have a coaching staff with a ton of postseason history on their side, whereas Houston just doesn’t have it. We don’t like the way that the Texans seemingly gave up on the regular season after moving to 10-3, and we think that it will cost them in the form of a crushing defeat in the franchise’s first playoff game come Saturday afternoon.
