NFL Betting Online:
The Pittsburgh Steelers (9-3, 6-6 ATS) will be gunning for their third straight pro football betting win on Thursday, December 8, 2011 when they welcome the division rival Cleveland Browns (4-8, 4-8 ATS) into Heinz Field; the national telecast is set to go live on the NFL Network at 8:20 ET.

Cleveland Browns (+13.5) -110
Pittsburgh Steelers (-13.5) -110
Over/Under 39.5
Wins have once again been few and far between for the Cleveland Browns entering tonight’s Thursday night contest, as they’ve won just four of their 12 games played to date. Since beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 14-10 as short one-point home favorites back in Week 11, the Browns have gone on to lose to both the division rival Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens (1-1 ATS). Cleveland has brought up the rear of the AFC North at such a high frequency over the last decade that their current position comes as absolutely no surprise to their waning fan base. To date, the Browns have won just one of their five road games – at Indianapolis in Week 2 – and gone 2-3 versus the closing pro football betting lines in those games.
Offensively, this team is an outright joke! QB Colt McCoy has only completed 57.7 percent of his passes for 2524 yards and sports a TD/INT ratio of 14/9. He suffered a minor knee sprain against the Ravens last week but is expected to give it a go this evening. The Browns’ 290.8 YPG average ranks 30th in the league and the 14.6 PPG they’ve averaged ranks 28th in scoring offense; it also ranks 26th in the red zone. The only thing this offense has going for it comes in the form of kicker Phil Dawson whose converted 19 of 24 field goal attempts. Defensively, the Browns are the best in defending the pass (#1 at 173.3 YPG), but that could do more with the fact that they rank 31st against the run (151.2 YPG) having just allowed Ray Rice to go off for 200+ yards last Sunday.
Since dropping two of their first four games of the season, head coach Mike Tomlin’s Steelers have only been defeated once in their last eight games; that bitter loss came in the closing moments of their Week 9 home battle with the Baltimore Ravens. Because of that, the Ravens hold the tiebreaker over the Steelers and sit atop the AFC North standings even though both teams sport identical records. Off a shaky at best performance at Kansas City in Week 12, Pittsburgh wasted no time in taking last week’s opponent – the Cincinnati Bengals – out behind the woodshed and serving up a good old-fashioned beating. After a scoreless first quarter, Pittsburgh erupted for 28 points in the second quarter and held the Bengals scoreless the rest of the way to pull out the 35-7 pro football betting odds win.
RB Rashard Mendenhall had one of his more productive games of the season rushing for 60 yards and two touchdowns; he could be in store for another huge game against Cleveland’s porous run defense here. The Steelers have won five of their six home games played to date and covered four of those contests against the closing pointspread.
Pro Football Betting Prediction – Tonight’s matchup marks the first of two meetings set to go in the final month of the regular season between these hated rivals. Pittsburgh has dominated the recent series winning nine of the L/10 overall meetings, but only went 5-4-1 versus the closing number; the Steelers have won seven straight against the Browns at home and covered five of those seven games ATS. Cleveland’s lost all five times it was tabbed an underdog this season (1-4 ATS), but Pittsburgh has come up short against the spread in all three of its prime time matchups the season. The best bet here might be to back the ‘under’ considering the Browns are allergic to the end zone, and Pittsburgh will be looking to milk the clock by controlling the game with its ground attack.
