The Dolphins didn’t do a whole heck of a lot to help themselves in the offseason, thus it’s virtually impossible to make our NFL betting predictions on them. However, laying a TD on the road, even with the mighty Patriots, isn’t always something that is wise to do, especially early in the season, so it’s hard to go that route.

And then we take a tad closer look at the ‘total’ in this one and realize just why the number is so high that we have to beat.

The ‘over’ has gone 11-4-1 over the course of the Dolphins’ last 16 home games, while New England has been playing high scoring games left and right over the last few years. The Pats are 13-3 for ‘over’ bettors in their last 16 games in which they were favored, and they are 16-5 towards the ‘over’ in their last 21 games overall.

Not only that, but last season, both games made it past the number when these two teams met on the divisional gridiron.

There might be some cause for concern over the neck injury to WR Wes Welker, but we look at the other options that QB Tom Brady has in WR Brandon Tate, WR Chad Ochocinco, TE Rob Gronkowski, and TE Aaron Hernandez and still think he has plenty there to work with.

We’re also going to go out on a limb and make our NFL wagering predictions that the Fins will have a more dynamic running game than they did a year ago. RB Reggie Bush, though not nearly the every down back that the New Orleans Saints were hoping for when they drafted him, is definitely explosive and can put six points on the board every time he touches the rock, and we like the chances that RB Daniel Thomas has in short yardage situations better than those of the departed RBs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.

That being said, QB Chad Henne is going to have a lot of pressure on him to perform against New England in Week 1 at home, as the hometown crowd is going to be on his case if he is lacking in a big way.

NFL Odds Predictions – Don’t be shocked if Miami at least sticks score for score with New England for awhile. This one should get into the 50s when it’s all said and done, and we expect a relatively competitive game for at least three quarters.
