For the first time this season, the Longhorns are going to hit the road, and they are going to do so with a brand new quarterback under center. Junior QB Garrett Gilbert, who played relatively admirably in the National Championship Game against the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2010, has regressed enough to make Head Coach Mack Brown replace him. Ironically, the man that is going to be starting this week is the brother of the man that Gilbert replaced in the BCS title game, QB Case McCoy.

Case, the younger brother of the UT legend, QB Colt McCoy, has been rumored to be replacing Gilbert, if for no other reason, just to get something going with the fans in Austin.

Now, those betting on UT on the NCAA football betting lines have gotten their wish. McCoy went 7-of-8 for 57 yards last week in an escape win over the BYU Cougars, and now, he is going to get the starting nod on Saturday for the first time in his young career.

The good news for McCoy is that his defense has been flat out awesome to date. One would expect the Longhorns to shut down the Rice Owls as they did in Week 1, but last week’s 17-16 victory over the Cougs in which they allowed just 235 yards of offense was particularly impressive.

Head Coach Rick Neuheisel knows that this is a game that he needs to win, though. After losing to the Houston Cougars, the number of losses is sure to start adding up, and a loss against Texas could go a long way to deciding Neuheisel’s fate at the end of this campaign. He grossly failed to beat the NCAA football betting odds last week as dominating favorites versus the San Jose State Spartans, marking the fifth straight ATS defeat and ninth in 10 tries for the Bruins.

QB Richard Brehaut only went 12-of-23 for 145 yards with a TD, and added 44 rushing yards with his scrambling abilities. He’ll start once again in all likelihood for injured QB Kevin Prince, who is still trying to get over his concussion suffered in Week 1 against Houston.

NCAA Football Betting Picks – These two teams have fantastic defenses that can cause a lot of turnovers, and with the two young quarterbacks in the saddle in this one, we don’t see how either team is getting significantly past the 20 point barrier. The ‘under’ is 25-9 ATS in UCLA’s L/34 home games and 15-7 ATS the L/22 times it went off the board as underdogs. Look for a low scorer Saturday afternoon in the Rose Bowl!
