Oklahoma Sooners (-10) -110
Texas Longhorns (+10) -110
Over/Under 56.5
The juggernaut that is the Oklahoma Sooners will look to take two in a row from the hated Texas Longhorns for the first time since 2003-04 when they take to the gridiron early Saturday afternoon. Head coach Bob Stoops’ kids have bolted out to a perfect 4-0 start with scalps of Tulsa, Florida State, Missouri and Ball State by an aggregate tally of 170-61. They enter this week’s tussle off a 62-6 college football betting dismantling of the Ball State Cardinals. The offense rolled up 655 yards of total offense with QB Landry Jones throwing for 425 yards and five TDs, while the defense limited the Cardinals to just 214 total yards.
The Sooners will invade the Cotton Bowl a very balanced team on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the team checks in ranked 4th in total yards (555 YPG) as well as 11th in scoring offense (42.5 PPG). RB Dominique Whaley has led the charge on the ground with 379 yards rushing and seven TDs, while WR Ryan Broyles has been Jones’ favorite target hauling in 38 passes for 476 yards and six TDs. The defense has limited opponents to 348 YPG (#40) but only an average of 15.2 PPG (#14) and checks in with a +3 turnover margin.
Texas got out of the gates real slow this season, but that was mostly due to the inability of then QB Garret Gilbert to get much done while leading the offense. Midway through its Week 2 college football betting odds tussle with BYU at home, head coach Mack Brown turned to sophomore Case McCoy and he helped lead the comeback charge. With the new field general now in place, Texas has pummeled the opposition outscoring both UCLA and Iowa State by a combined 86-34 en route to a pair of decisive pointspread covers.
The Longhorns defense has really stood out to start the year, but the Sooners will present the unit with its toughest challenge to date. Texas has allowed an average of just 14.8 PPG (#12) and 289 total yards per game (#15) adequately defending against both the run and pass; their 19.5 defensive yard per point average could take a hit if it allows Oklahoma to be successful in both phases of its offense. UT loves to rush the ball as well, as it checks in ranked 25th overall gaining an average of 206 YPG. It will however have to find some success through the air to prevent the Sooners from loading the box and daring them to throw.
College Football Betting Prediction – What a gauntlet the Longhorns have to run over these next two weeks facing both of the Oklahoma schools! Only three of the L/13 in this series haven’t been decided by double digits. OU dominated the Horns a year ago and returns more on both sides of the ball. We’re just not so sure that Texas’ offense is going to be able to do much in this spot; regardless of the unit’s success against lesser opposition the last couple weeks. Texas has failed to cover each of its L/3 on a neutral field, while OU has covered four of its L/5 away from Norman. Go Boomer Sooner!
