A doozy of a Pac-12 college football lines match-up is set to go Thursday night at Bookmaker Sportsbook when the California Golden Bears take on the division rival Oregon Ducks.

The California Golden Bears (3-1, 2-2 ATS) will look to avenge last year’s heartbreaking defeat on Thursday, October 6th when it battles the 9th ranked Oregon Ducks (3-1, 2-2 ATS) against the college football lines; kick-off from Autzen Stadium is scheduled to go live at 9:00 ET on ESPN and ESPN3.com

Cal will have had a week off to prepare for tonight’s primetime tussle against the division rival Ducks; the Golden Bears are 2-2 SU & ATS off a bye week the last three seasons. Coach Jeff Tedford’s squad started the year off with a bang by taking care of business against in-state rival Fresno State winning 36-21 as 10-point neutral field favorites. They followed it up with an OT win at Colorado (36-33) and then returned home to dismantle Presbyterian by a 63-12 final count as 43-point chalk. The Pac-12 season opened up with a loss at Washington (31-23), but Cal found itself in a position to tie it up late goal to go but failed to punch it in on four straight tries.

The Golden Bears defense currently ranks 8th in the country in total yards allowed (314.2 YPG) and 55th in points allowed (24.2 PPG), but the key stat in tonight’s college football betting lines match-up with the Ducks is their ability to contain opposing ground attacks. The unit has allowed just 78.2 YPG rushing to date (#9) already limiting Fresno State’s Robbie Rouse (86) and Washington’s Chris Polk (60) to a combined 146 yards on 37 carries. That unit’s success in containing LaMichael James will prove paramount tonight!

The 2010-11 National Championship runner-ups have bounced back nicely from their deflating season opening loss to the now top ranked LSU Tigers. Their current three-game winning streak started with a woodshed beating of Nevada whom they toppled 69-20 in their Autzen Opener, and was then followed up with a 56-7 thrashing of Missouri State. Coach Chip Kelly’s kids then secured their first Pac-12 win of the season by going into Tucson and handing Nick Foles and the Arizona Wildcats an embarrassing 56-31 home defeat as 16-point road favorites. The Ducks will also be playing off their bye of which their 4-2 SU but just 2-4 ATS when playing in that role the last three seasons.

While the Ducks defense looks to be a lesser version of last year’s squad, the teams overall success, or lack thereof strictly depends on the offenses ability to wear opponents out. It hasn’t worked in the program’s last two college football lines losses against SEC opposition, but Cal would never be confused with that of this year’s LSU outfit or the Cam Newton led Auburn Tigers of a year ago. RB LaMichael James is a dual threat that’s rushed for 613 yards (9.4 YPC) and seven TDs as well as reel in 11 passes for 159 yards (14.5 YPC) and a score. He was held out of the end zone a year ago and limited to just 91 yards on 29 attempts in these conference rivals meeting in Berkeley last season, so it will be up to QB Darron Thomas to give his super back some room to roam by taking advantage of the Golden Bears leaky pass defense that checks in ranked 79th overall allowing 236 YPG.

College Football Lines Prediction – California has had this game circled ever since it let the Ducks off the hook last year at home. The 15-13 Oregon win was the team’s closest contested match-up of the regular season heading into the National Championship Game versus Auburn. Though the Golden Bears are just 7-19 ATS their L/26 on the road, they’re 16-5 ATS their L/21 as a road pup of 10.5 points or greater; they’re also 4-1 ATS their L/5 battles with the Ducks. Cal does possess some nice pieces to the puzzle on both sides of the ball, so look for this to be a sort of coming out party for that talent under the national spotlight; Cal hangs!
