First year head coach Todd Graham has been very candid recently in saying the Panthers are not where they should be, but he has recognized that the team is still capable of turning things around and making a push at the Big East crown. “We’ve been very inconsistent and we just need to improve fundamentally and keep working every day. I know fans are upset, and they should be — I’m upset, I go home my wife is upset, my mom is upset and my brother is giving me input on who the quarterback should be. But they should be upset because the standard and expectations of Pitt football is to win championships, and we haven’t played at that level.” Graham and the Panthers expect things to change this week against the Huskies.

Pittsburgh has played to an underwhelming 3-4 SU record in the standings and a 2-5 mark against the college football wagering odds this season while the ‘under’ has cashed in four of the seven games. The Panthers are also just 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a home favorite and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a bye week.

This week’s contest at Pitt could have been disastrous had the Huskies dropped its last contest to South Florida. However, UCONN pulled off its most triumphant victory of the season, downing the Bulls 16-10 in Storrs to snap a two game losing streak of their own. Connecticut, though underwhelming throughout most of the season, still has a chance to win the conference though, and another upset over Pittsburgh could go a very long way for a program that’s come on strong in recent years.

“[We need] to put them in situations where they have to throw the ball,” UCONN head coach Paul Pasqualoni said this week. “With their tailback, Ray Graham, that is going to be quite a challenge. We’ll have a chance to rush the passer and disrupt the offense, but we’ve got to get them in those kinds of situations.” UCONN’s scoring defense enters the game ranked 29th in the country, only allowing opponents to score an average of 20.7 points per game this season.

Like Pitt, UCONN is 3-4 SU in the standings and 2-5 against the college football wagering lines in 2011; the ‘under,’ however, is 5-2 this year. The Huskies are an impressive 9-0 ATS in their last nine games against teams with a losing record while also playing to a 6-1 ATS tally in their last seven Big East tests.
