Tune into NBC starting at 7:30 ET to catch all of the live action.

Though Notre Dame has yet to set the world on fire, it does enter as a sizable -20.5 point college football betting favorite over the Terrapins with the ‘total’ set at 56.5.

He may not be the next Joe Montana, but sophomore quarterback Tommy Rees has transformed himself from a backup hurler to the face of the Irish’s offense. Though Rees and the Irish suffered through back to back loses to start the 2011 season, Notre Dame has battled back to win six of its last seven games; since losing to USC in South Bend two weeks ago, Notre Dame has strung together a pair of victories and has made itself bowl eligible once again.

After blowing out Navy, Notre Dame was almost faced with a trap game last Saturday at Wake Forest, but the Irish defense held the Demon Deacons scoreless in the second half and Rees tossed a pair of third quarter touchdown passes to push the Irish to victory, 24-17. “The words I would use? Gritty. Tough,” Irish coach Brian Kelly said afterward. “You’ve got to win games like this where it’s just a gritty, tough performance.” If the grittiness holds, Notre Dame should have no trouble with Maryland come Saturday evening.

Notre Dame (6-3) hasn’t had as much success against the college football betting lines (4-5 ATS) as it has in the standings, but the ‘under’ has played 5-3-1 on the year. Look for the ‘under’ to play again on Saturday as it has posted a 10-2 mark in Notre Dame’s last 12 games vs. ACC opponents; the ‘under’ is also 4-0 in the Irish’s last four November contests.

They may have the funkiest uniforms in all of college football, but the cool threads have not lead to many victories for the Maryland Terrapins in 2011. After pulling the upset over Miami in their first game of the year, the Terps have only beaten Towson en route to its current 2-7 record. There are not enough games left on Maryland’s schedule for the Terps to become bowl eligible this season, but head coach Randy Edsall hasn’t thrown the towel in just yet; he plans on using Saturday game against Notre Dame, as well as the rest of his team’s schedule, to teach and hope that his team makes the strides necessary to compete in 2012.

“One of our goals is gone from this year,” Edsall said, “but it is all up to us to work to get better. That is exactly what we are going to do. It’s disappointing, but we have to go and get better.” Though the game will be played at a neutral site, Saturday will be the last time that Maryland plays in its home state this year. The Terps have nothing to lose, so don’t be surprised if they come out with guns blazing against the Irish.

Maryland has posted an identical 2-7 record both overall and against the college football betting odds in 2011. Though the Terps are 4-1 ATS in their last five neutral site games, they are also 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall and 1-4 ATS the last five times they were dogged.
