The Iowa program has been very successful under the watch of Head Coach Kirk Ferentz and his staff, but the Hawkeyes haven’t been a major player within the Big 10 each of the last two seasons. Though the squad earned a 7-4 SU mark heading into today’s regular season finale, it’s gone just 4-3 SU & 3-4 ATS against conference opposition and churned out just one win in four tries away from Iowa City (1-3 ATS). That lone college football odds triumph as a visitor came last week at Purdue whom they toppled 31-21 as short two-point favorites.

The Hawkeyes aren’t necessarily terrible in any one aspect, but they don’t stand out from the rest of the pack either. QB James Vandenberg sports a rock solid TD/INT ratio of 23/5 and has thrown for 2624 yards while completing 60.9 percent of his passes, but the Hawkeyes rank just 50th in passing offense (241.3 YPG) and 40th in scoring offense (30.6 PPG). Defensively, Iowa’s given up an average of 387.8 YPG (#66) but has only allowed the opposition to average 23.5 PPG (#45). The Hawkeyes sport a +4 turnover margin heading into this afternoon’s spot.

Though the Cornhuskers got out to a perfect 4-0 SU start to the season, it wasn’t until Week 4 that Head Coach Bo Pelini’s squad secured their first college football betting odds win when it went into Wyoming and beat the Cowboys 38-14 as 21-point favorites. The Huskers were then handed their worst loss of the season at Wisconsin the following week falling 48-17 as 10-point underdogs in the program’s first ever Big 10 battle. It did however battle back from a double-digit deficit at home against Ohio State the following week to secure the first ever win for the Cornhuskers as a member of their new conference.

Save for a disappointing three-point loss to Northwestern, Big Red has taken care of business as a host winning five of their six home games by an average of 17.4 PPG, but the only cover came in the 21-point demolition of a tired Michigan State outfit back in Week 8. QB Taylor Martinez is a proven duel threat having rushed for 817 yards and nine TDs, while throwing for 1810 yards and 11 TDs, but his 56 percent completion percentage and 11 INTs thrown leaves some cause for concern. The Blackshirts are stingy against the pass (#19 at 189.7 YPG), but not so much defending the run (#74 at 168.3 YPG). In all, the Huskers are giving up an average of 24.3 PPG (#49) and have only forced 16 overall turnovers.

College Football Odds Prediction – Today’s afternoon affair marks these teams first meeting in over a decade; Nebraska’s 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS in the two most recent battles that took place from 1999-2000. The Hawkeyes have gone 10-4 ATS versus the L/14 +.500 home teams they’ve faced, while the Cornhuskers stand just 4-11 ATS their L/15 Friday games and 1-6 ATS their L/7 at home. Both clubs will look to close out their regular season campaigns on a high, and with a better bowl invite going to the winner, look for this one to be close the whole way through.
