Call the Tabernacle Choir and sound it to the rooftops: Bookmaker Sportsbook has the most college football betting options for Friday, October 28th, and everyday throughout the 2011 season, including the non-conference clash featuring the TCU Horned Frogs and the Cougars of BYU. ESPN will provide television coverage from Cowboys Stadium starting at 8:00 ET.
TCU will certainly have the home crowd at Jerry World and the Frogs will come in with a 13-point college football betting advantage as well.
Well, there’s good news and bad news for the TCU Horned Frogs at this point in the season. The bad news is that a second straight Rose Bowl is highly unlikely. However, the team is unbeaten in the Mountain West Conference, so another championship is still on the horizon. The only thing TCU cannot afford is for Friday to turn into a trap game; the team’s make-it-or-break-it match up at #4 Boise State is just two short weeks away.
The fighting Frogs have responded nicely, however, since dropping a 40-33 double overtime loss to Southern Methodist on October 1st. TCU bounced right back with a hard fought victory at San Diego State, and with the taste of the SMU loss still fresh in their mouths, the Horned Frogs demolished New Mexico 69-0 last Saturday in Fort Worth. In the process, TCU broke its school record for most points scored in a game, surpassing the previous high of 68 which came against Austin College in 1932.
The Horned Frogs own a respectable 5-2 record this season with a 4-3 mark against the college football betting lines; the ‘over’ has played to a 6-1 tally thus far. Unfortunately, however, TCU is 0-5 ATS in its last five non-conference games while the road team is 5-1 in the last six meetings between TCU and BYU.
The season looked to be slipping away from BYU after the first three weeks of play; back to back losses to Texas and Utah had the Cougars in a very dark place. Over its past five games, though, BYU has been a force to be reckoned with. The Cougars have captured five straight wins, and like TCU, the Cougars are coming into Friday’s contest fresh off of a blowout; BYU took down FCS opponent Idaho State 56-3 last Saturday in Provo.
Thought the ISU Bengals were clearly an inferior opponent, BYU never let off the gas pedal on either side of the ball. The Cougars forced three turnovers in the win and quarterback Riley Nelson scored a career-high four touchdowns, throwing for 215 yards and running for 62 more. Head coach Bronco Mendenhall said his team played a complete four quarters and that his Cougars showed more in the game than they did all week during practice. If that continues this week, BYU could surely play the role of spoiler in Forth Worth this Friday.
BYU comes into the contest with a 6-2 SU record but just a 4-4 record against the college football betting odds; the O/U has played to an even 4-4 mark. BYU has covered each of the L/5 times it went off the board dogged, as well as each of their L/5 against +.500 opposition. It has however come up short covering just once in their L/6 under the “Friday Night Lights”.
