On paper the defending AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers look to once again be in the midst of another successful campaign. However, a deeper look into the drama that has surrounded this franchise from Week 1 paints a much different picture. Though the club sits perched atop the AFC North standings with the rival Baltimore Ravens, the purple and black hold the tiebreaker over the yellow and black due to sweeping this season’s series. The only other loss incurred by head coach Mike Tomlin’s squad came back in Week 4 against a Houston Texans squad that just wrapped up the AFC South and punched its ticket to the postseason for the first time in franchise history.

Unfortunately, a high ankle sprain suffered by QB Ben Roethlisberger last week only adds to the list of injuries this squad has suffered from all season long. Throw in the suspension to James Harrison for this game due to the helmet to helmet blow he administered to Browns QB Colt McCoy last week, and it’s possible that two of the Steelers best players on both sides of the ball won’t be able to go in this Week 15 football betting clash. Pittsburgh enters tonight’s spot amidst a four-game win streak (2-2 ATS), but has alternated pointspread wins and losses each of the last six weeks after failing to cover the two touchdowns spread against Cleveland last week. Two of the Steelers three losses to date have come on the road where they stand 4-2 SU & 2-4 ATS on the year.

The job head coach Jim Harbaugh has done with the 49ers since taking over the reins has not gone without notice. San Francisco is made up almost entirely of the same roster that went an underachieving 6-10 SU just a short season ago under the watch of former head coach Mike Singletary and his staff. QB Alex Smith was an afterthought in the offense last season, but the former number one draft pick is currently in the midst of his best season as a professional throwing for 2565 yards to go along with a TD/INT ratio of 15/5; his 91.5 QB rating is his best mark in his seventh campaign. With the Niners now sporting a pulse offensively, it has allowed the defense to flex its muscles even more; San Francisco possesses the top scoring defense in the league allowing an average of just 14.0 PPG.

Up until the “HarBowl” on Thanksgiving night, the Niners were flat out money for those that backed them on the football betting lines. It wasn’t until Week 12 that San Fran absorbed its first pointspread defeat having gone 9-0-1 ATS in its first 10 games of the season. Though the club bounced back with a 26-0 shutout of the hapless St. Louis Rams the following week to clinch the division as well as a playoff spot, the Niners dropped their second straight on the road where they fell to what looks to be a revitalized Arizona Cardinals outfit last week. Tonight’s game will be San Francisco’s regular season home finale where it’s 6-1 SU & 6-0-1 ATS on the year only falling to the Dallas Cowboys in overtime back in Week 2.

Football Betting Prediction – Making a play here on a side is close to impossible not knowing the true availability of Big Ben. Even if he is to give it a go, we would side with the Niners who have been at their best as a host. However, the best position to take in this one would be to expect a low scorer with two of the best defenses set to lock horns against one another.
