The 2011 Monday Night football betting slate comes to a close at Bookmaker Sportsbook in Week 16 when the NFC South rival Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints go at it in a game filled with playoff uncertainties.

NFL Betting Online:
The final Monday night football betting clash of 2011 should be a good one as the NFC South rival Atlanta Falcons (9-5, 7-7 ATS) meet up with the New Orleans Saints (11-3, 10-4 ATS) for the second time this season; kick-off for this one on Monday, December 26th fromthe Mercedes Benz Superdome is scheduled to go live on ESPN at 8:30 ET.

Atlanta Falcons (+6.5) -110
New Orleans Saints (-6.5) -110

Even though the Falcons have failed to live up to the standard set for NFL bettors by covering 11 of their 16 games played a year ago, Atlanta looks to be playing its best ball of the year at the most opportune of times. The shortened off-season could have played a role in the Falcons slow start, but everything looks to be falling into place for head coach Mike Smith with the playoffs only a couple weeks away. Save for that gutwrenching defeat at Houston back in Week 13, the Falcons have taken care of business in four of their last five games beating the likes of Tennessee, Minnesota, Carolina, and Jacksonville. Though there isn’t a winning team of that bunch, Atlanta came just a half point away of covering the closing football betting spread in each of those games.
Oddsmakers installed them as hefty 13.5 point favorites at home last week to Jacksonville, but the Falcons passed that test in style pounding the Jaguars 41-14 en route to their fifth home win of the season. QB Matt Ryan was simply sensational completing 73 percent of his passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns; the former BC product looks to be heating up as he’s thrown for 544 yards to go along with seven touchdowns and zero interceptions the last two weeks. He now gets to throw into a New Orleans defense ranked 28th in the league in defending the pass (256.1 YPG). He already torched them for 351 yards and a pair of scores in the division rivals first meeting back in Week 10, so another big effort is expected from “Matty Ice” in this primetime spot.
In passing its stiffest road challenge to date in back-to-back weeks at Tennessee and Minnesota with playoff ramifications abound, New Orleans all but cemented itself a first round playoff game at home where it’s simply torn apart the opposition all season long. To date, the Saints stand a perfect 6-0 SU & ATS at home beating the likes of Chicago, Houston, Indianapolis, Tampa Bay, the New York Giants, and Detroit by an average of 21.5 points per game. Last they took to the home turf, they throttled the Lions 31-17 as eight-point football betting favorites; the average amount of points oddsmakers have favored them by at home throughout the season’s entirety.
QB Drew Brees had one heck of an afternoon for fantasy players last week in Minnesota where he threw for 412 yards and five touchdowns with WRs Marques Colston and Lance Moore having huge games combining for 13 receptions, 182 yards receiving and a pair of scores. Atlanta’s defense has been more susceptible to giving up big plays through the air (#17 at 230.4 YPG) than on the ground (#4 at 96.6 YPG), so another big game must be had by the Saints passing attack if they are to sweep the season series from the Falcons. N’awlens enters tonight spot having won and covered each of their last six contests.
Football Betting Prediction – The first go round of this rivalry saw the Saints steal a 26-23 overtime win in “Hotlanta” – the Falcons made a desperate move in going for it on fourth and short on their own side of the 50 in the extra session, and paid for it dearly when they couldn’t convert. Along with having same season revenge and getting to play this one within a dome, the Falcons also have had extra time to prepare having played last Thursday. The road team has won each of the last four meetings with two games going into overtime, while the underdog has cashed in each of the last five. With both teams fighting to either qualify or improve playoff positioning, this has last-second field goal written all over it. With Atlanta an impressive 11-5 ATS its L/16 trips to the dome, we have no choice but to back them plus the points and expect another nail biter as good as both teams are currently playing.
