Hopes are high for the Atlanta Falcons (9-6, 6-8-1 ATS) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-11, 4-11 ATS) in Week 17, as they get set to face off at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA. Had this game been in Week 16, the story would have been completely different. Tampa Bay has been terrible over the course of the last three months, and the Falcons have been flying high and beating the NFL betting lines against seemingly every team that they have faced.

However, the circumstance is a heck of a lot different for the Falcons. The question is whether they want to really try to get out of the #6 seed in the NFC side of the playoffs. They’re already locked in as a Wild Card, and a loss or a Detroit Lions win would send them to the Bayou for a date with the New Orleans Saints next week. If the Lions win in the 1:00 games at the Green Bay Packers, Head Coach Mike Smith will know that beating the NFL gambling lines in this one would be useless.

We don’t expect to see all that much from the stars on this Atlanta team in all likelihood. QB Matt Ryan might start and get four passes out to WR Roddy White so he can say that he had 100 grabs for the year, while WR Julio Jones and TE Tony Gonzalez might both see some extra reps so they can take aim at 1,000 receiving yards each, but there is really no other need to keep the starters out there.

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay has some great motivation to try to beat the NFL wagering lines in this one. The Bucs could be playing for the job of Head Coach Raheem Morris, though after losses against the Carolina Panthers by 32, Dallas Cowboys by 16, Jacksonville Jaguars by 27, and Carolina by 19 in four consecutive weeks, his fate may already be sealed.

NFL Lines Pick – Tampa Bay hasn’t won a game since October 16th, and it is just 1-8 ATS since that point. That being said, it will want to avoid the double digit game losing streak, and against a team that has virtually squat to play for and would probably rather take on the Saints than the NFC East winner, we think that the Bucs will get the job done, just as they did early in the year with a 16-13 win at Raymond James Stadium.
