We have seen a whole heck of a lot of high numbers thrown on the board thus far on the short season, but we know that the NFL wagering lines have been inflated just far too high; especially in games like this one.

We may as well start with the ridiculous game that the Pats and the Miami Dolphins played on Monday Night Football. If you think that QB Tom Brady is throwing for over 500 yards and that New England is going to put up over 600 yards on this San Diego defense, which ranked No. 1 in the league last year, you’re absolutely crazy.

We also aren’t so sure that this relatively one-dimensional Patriots offense is really going to be capable of scoring against a significantly better defense than what they faced on Monday night.

San Diego was in a bit more of a normal game last week, posting a 24-17 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Still, the Chargers put up some absolutely ridiculous offense numbers that will almost certainly not be replicated, and a closer look shows that this unit really wasn’t as good as it looks.

QB Philip Rivers threw for 335 yards and two TDs against two picks, while the rushing game accounted for just 77 yards and a score.

However, take a closer look here. There was only one San Diego play offensively in the entire game that went for more than 21 yards. Also, the Chargers possessed the ball for almost 38 minutes of the game, not necessarily because of the fact that the offense was that good, but because the Minnesota offense flat out stunk.

Seven points scored by the Vikes last week also came from special teams, something that we can’t count on in every one of the Chargers’ duels against the NFL gambling lines.

NFL Lines Picks – When you look at the historical duels between these teams that were expected to have in the mid- to high-40s, you’ll realize just how low scoring this series has really been. The last five meetings have had 43, 40, 33, 52, and 45 points. That’s all we need to happen to have this one stick ‘under’ the number come Sunday afternoon.
