The Texans have faced a slew of adversity this year. They played four games without Arian Foster, have been missing Andre Johnson since Week 4, and won’t get one of the top defensive players in the entire league, Mario Williams back for the rest of the season. Now, the biggest bit of adversity has hit the team, as QB Matt Schaub is likely out for the rest of the campaign. Needless to say, this puts Houston behind the 8-ball on the NFL betting odds for the most part.

The news isn’t entirely bad, though. Houston had its bye last week, giving Matt Leinart the chance to take all of the first team reps for two weeks. We also have to remember that Leinart is an experienced quarterback, having started his share of games with the Arizona Cardinals before coming here to the Lone Star State.

Leinart will also get Johnson back in the fold for the first time in two months, giving him one of the top targets in the league to throw to.

Perhaps the best panacea for Leinart and the Texans though, is that their first duel on the NFL gambling odds comes against a Jacksonville game that has had all sorts of problems on the offensive side of the ball.

The Jags are only averaging 12.5 points per game, and they have yet to score more than 20 points in a game this year. They rank dead last in the league in total offense at 249.5 yards per game, and thanks to rookie quarterback, Blaine Gabbert, the team is only averaging 129.4 yards per game through the air.

If there is a bit of solace for the Jags, it is that Maurice Jones-Drew is 59 rushing yards away from reaching the 1,000 yard mark for the campaign.

NFL Odds Prediction – The first time these division rivals met this year, Houston dominated winning 24-14 but pushed against the 10-point closing spread. Gabbert only went 10-of-30 passing, and the Jags only had one play of more than 12 yards for the entire game. Houston has won back to back games in this series, and it is 6-2-1 ATS in its last nine games against conference foes. Meanwhile, the Jags are just 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 against teams with a winning record. Even with Leinart calling the shots, Jacksonville just doesn’t stand a chance.
