The Carolina Panthers got their first taste of victory under the Ron Rivera regime last week at home where they toppled the Jacksonville Jaguars 16-10 in a thrilling rain soaked home win and cover as 3.5-point favorites.

QB Cam Newton didn’t put forth the mindboggling numbers he did in his first two games as a pro, but he executed when it mattered most. His 16-yard TD strike to TE Greg Olsen with just over four minutes remaining put the Panthers ahead for good, but most importantly, got the Panthers ahead of the closing spread for their NFL gambling line supporters.

Though Carolina dropped its first two games of the season on the road at Arizona and at home against Green Bay, the Panthers have exuded confidence on all levels much unlike last year’s squad that managed to win just two of its 16 regular season contests. All that credit must go to HC Rivera and his staff whose no nonsense and intense approach has caught the attention of his players. It’s early, but Carolina looks to be a team on the rise with much to prove. They’d no doubt love to earn their coach a win against Chicago, a team that fired him as their defensive coordinator shortly after losing to the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI.

Since coming up with one of the most unexpected NFL gambling performances in Week 1 at home against the Atlanta Falcons, the Chicago Bears have done nothing to make those that doubted their lucky run a year ago that resulted in the NFC North championship.

Brian Urlacher and his mates shined Week 1 against the Falcons limiting them offensively for a majority of the game while forcing three turnovers. Those end results have been nonexistent the last two weeks in brutal losses to the New Orleans Saints and division rival Green Bay Packers. Since sacking Matt Ryan five times in Week 1, Chicago’s defense has only mustered a total of three sacks the last two weeks.

With the front four unable to get pressure on opposing QBs, it allowed both Drew Brees and  Aaron Rodgers to pick the Bears’ beleaguered and injured secondary apart to the tune of 567 yards and six TD passes. If safeties Chris Harris and Major Wright both continue to roam the sideline, it could be another long day for the Bears defensively since Newton has already proved fully capable of torching secondaries at this level throwing for over 1000 yards in his first three games as a pro.

NFL Gambling Prediction – Bottom line – this is a game the Bears should win. They’re at home and heavily favored to do so. With Carolina only mustering five sacks to date, it should finally give QB Jay Cutler the time to find some open receivers downfield and hit them in stride. That said; all is not right within the Bears organization. Coaches aren’t on the same page with one another, and the players are getting sick and tired of it. Chicago is just 3-8 ATS its L/11 as a home chalk in the 3.5-10 point range and the underdog is 4-1-1 ATS in these teams six overall meetings. Carolina is a live underdog in this spot! Look for them to give the hosts all they could ask for and more.
