It’s been real tough for those that are fans of the Indianapolis Colts to start the season. The 2011-12 season kicked off with a dud in the form of a 34-7 beat down at the hands of the AFC South rival Houston Texans. The offense managed to accumulate just 236 total yards from scrimmage as QB Kerry Collins completed just over half of his passes and was sacked three times. Week 2 showed a bit more promise with the Colts combining for 285 yards and 110 on the ground, but the end result was the exact same as they fell 27-19 at home to the Browns.
Everybody and their mother lined up to back the Pittsburgh Steelers in last Sunday night’s game, and the gambling gods punished them severely for overlooking the Colts in a prime underdog spot. RB Joseph Addai continued his solid rushing going off for 86 yards at 5.1 YPC, but Collins was knocked out of the game forcing Curtis Painter to close it out against the vaunted Steelers defense. He did lead a scoring drive that tied the game up late, but only ended up completing 5-of-11 passes for 60 yards before Pittsburgh closed the game out in the final seconds.
It looks as if he will lead the Colts in this Monday Night Football betting odds tussle with Collins listed as questionable with a concussion. Tampa Bay just held Michael Turner to 20 total yards last week, so the onus will be on Painter to convert downfield to loosen the Bucs coverage up; much easier said than done!
Through three weeks played, Tampa Bay already has a come-from-behind win over the Minnesota Vikings under its belt and head coach Raheem Morris finally beat Mike Smith and the Atlanta Falcons for the first time last week. The only blemish on the resume came in the form of a 27-20 Week 1 home defeat to a Detroit Lions outfit that has now won seven straight regular season games dating back to last season and remains one of only two NFC teams still undefeated.
The team might not have stats that bounce of the page, but what the team does have is a ton of heart led by youngsters that never give up. QB Josh Freeman is the ringleader of the group. Though he does make a number of passes that leave you scratching your head, he’s a winner and has led the Bucs to wins in four of their L/5 games played dating back to last season.
Defensively, Tampa Bay might give up a healthy amount of yardage per game (384.7 YPG), but they make opponents earn every point they tally with a defensive yard per point average of 19.3; only the Lions and Cardinals possess better marks in the NFC. With Indy already struggling to get much done offensively, it’ll be even tougher to do so against this nasty bunch.
Monday Night Football Betting Prediction – Look for Week 4 to close out with a snoozer on Monday night. Indy’s running attack doesn’t figure to make much hay against the Bucs defensive front, which will make it all the more harder for either Collins or Painter to navigate their passes within the Bucs’ ballhawking secondary. Freeman will keep the chains moving with high percentage passes, and RB LeGarrette Blount will finish things off near the goal line. Tampa’s 6-1-1 ATS its L/8 versus losing teams and hasn’t been showcased on Monday Night since 2008. Look for them to make the most of the opportunity and cruise to the home win and cover in a lower scoring affair.
Whether you plan on taking the points with the Colts or laying the heavy chalk with the Buccaneers for this non-conference Monday Night Football bettingclash, be sure to take advantage of the bevy of lines offered up for this match-up at Bookmaker Sportsbook.
