Last week, the Saints really had to hold on tight to their victory over the Tennessee Titans. It was a game that was never totally out of reach, and it was one in which they were very lucky to get out of town with a win and a victory on the NFL gambling odds. It was their fifth straight win and their fifth straight cover, and we have no reason to think that that will stop here in the Twin Cities.

The accolades that are consistently given to Drew Brees are much deserved. He needs just 632 passing yards in his last three games to reach 5,000 for the season, which would make him the only quarterback in the history of the league to reach that plateau twice in his career, and he already has 32 TDs against just 11 picks on the campaign. This week though, the plateau that he is chasing is the 40,000-yard mark for his career. He needs 366 yards to get there, and that would make him the 11th quarterback in the history of the league to achieve that milestone.

Of course, going against Minnesota’s absolutely atrocious pass defense will only make it sweeter for us to bet New Orleans on the NFL wagering odds. The Vikes rank No. 26 in the league against the pass at 248.8 yards per game, and it’s amazing the number is that bad in spite of the fact that Jared Allen leads the league with 17.5 sacks. Take away the sack yards that this team has conceded, and that number for passing games is up to almost 270 yards per game.

The question in this one is whether it is going to be rookie Christian Ponder or Joe Webb who takes snaps for Minnesota. Ponder has struggled and struggled mightily, which is why the Vikes can’t seem to beat the NFL betting odds against anyone that they face, and Webb would be in a heck of a lot more trouble starting and finishing the whole game than coming in off of the bench as he did last week in the comeback that fell just short against the Detroit Lions.

NFL Odds Prediction – The Vikes are just 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight home games, and they have had very little luck against teams that really throw the ball well. They allowed 60 points in two games against Detroit and 78 in two games against Green Bay. If the team puts forth that type of effort again this week, Minnesota is going to get laughed out of its own building.
