The St. Louis Rams (0-1, 0-1 ATS) and New York Giants (0-1, 0-1 ATS) will both be scratching and clawing in hopes of securing their first NFL odds win of the season on Monday, September 19th when the NFC counterparts meet up on the gridiron for the first time since the 2008 season. Kick-off from MetLife Stadium is set for 8:30 ET live on ESPN.

Last week’s Week 1 battle back in the Edwards Jones Dome got off to a fantastic start for the Rams. Barely five minutes into the game, RB Steven Jackson rumbled 47 yards to pay dirt to give the hosts the quick 7-0 lead. However, it was all downhill from there as they suffered a pair of huge injuries that will play a role in limiting their success in tonight’s spot.

Jackson injured his right quad on his long TD scamper and was forced out of the game; he won’t be suiting up tonight which leaves the bulk of the rushing duties to Cadillac Williams (91 yards on 19 carries last week) and Jerious Norwood who only touched the ball three times in Week 1. Also gone for this game is leading WR Danny Amendola whose out indefinitely with an elbow dislocation. The finger injury to QB Sam Bradford’s throwing hand doesn’t help matters either.

The Rams offense was already limited at full strength, so now, their ability to hang with the Giants as well as stick in front of the NFL betting odds in this match-up will rest solely on the defense. A tall order considering the unit that gave up a pair of TD passes and allowed the Eagles to rush for 237 yards in last week’s 31-13 home defeat.

As for New York, it will no doubt enter this spot fully determined to turn the page on last week’s surprising second half domination at the hands of the division rival Washington Redskins. The teams played even throughout the first 30 minutes of play, but the ‘Skins came up with a huge play out of the break when rookie LB Ryan Kerrigan tipped QB Eli Manning’s pass up to himself and returned it nine yards for a score to give Washington the seven-point lead.

A costly special teams blunder reared its ugly head late in the game as well when LB Brian Orakpo blocked a punt to set the Redskins up for the quick score. New York’s six-game winning streak over the Redskins was over right then and there, as the Giants went scoreless in the second half and fell to both the Skins and closing NFL odds by a 28-14 final count.

It looks as if DE Justin Tuck will be back in action Monday night, which only makes the job of the Rams O-Line that much tougher. He along with D-Line mates Mathias Kiwanuka, Chris Canty and Jason Pierre-Paul should be able to wreak havoc on Bradford and company all night long.

NFL Odds Prediction – Unfortunately for the Rams, the same limitations they had a year ago exist today. The offense is nothing special, and because of its lack of execution and ability to hold onto the pigskin, it wears their excelled defense down over time. This will once again be the case tonight as it just doesn’t possess the playmakers needed to extend possessions for the Rams to hang. Though New York is just 2-5 ATS its L/7 when favored, the Giants are a perfect 3-0 SU & ATS on MNF the L/3 seasons and 8-3 ATS their L/11 Week 2 battles.
