This week we have the NFC Divisional playoffs starting on Saturday with the Cardinals at Carolina where they are a huge underdog and then on Sunday with the Eagles traveling to New York to take on the Football Giants. I managed to go 2-2 last week as the Cardinals just edged out the Falcons and Philly whipped the Vikings in their own house. Below are the spreads and picks for this weeks divisional playoffs. Keep checking back every week as I will have a pick for every NFL playoffs game…

Saturday, January 10th, 8:15pm EST

Arizona Cardinals
Carolina Panthers -10 48

My Pick: The Cards didn’t do anything exceptionally well last week against the Falcons, they just went out and did what they had to do to get the W, but they will have to find something special to use against the Panthers if they want to continue on in the playoffs. It was the usual pass, pass, run, pass routine for the Cards, but against the stingy Panther Run D they could be forced to just. I think Tim Hightower will have to make his presence known immediately to get something going or they will pound on him all day making Warner take most of the pressure. As long as everyone is healthy then the Panthers will have to respect the pass, but then again I think thats all they will have anyways. The Panthers and their running game continues to surprise everyone and we all want to know when this Deangelo Williams train is going to stop. I think he has like 4 TD’s in 3 different games. This guy is unstoppable or he is juiced out of his mind…Delhomme should be solid with Smith and Muhammod in the slots and the O line has been playing very well so he should not feel to much pressure from the Cardinal D. The spread seems lkind of high, but as the Cards continue to play shaky football the rested Panthers just look too strong. Give the points.

Sunday, January 11th, 1:00pm EST

Philadelphia Eagles
New York Giants -4 41

My Pick: Philly played their hearts out in Minnesota last week and yet again it was the chosen one, Brian Westbrook that hit the nail in the coffin to close it out with a 70 yard pass in the 4th quarter that all but sealed the deal for the Eagles. McNabb didn’t play horrible, but he didn’t play well, it was their defense that should get most of the credit for the W last week as they held Adrian Peterson to only 83 yards on the ground and forced a turnover and a 3 and out when it mattered most. They will need to bring that same intensity on D this week against the fabled earth, wind and fire elements of the Giants running game. Everyone is healthy and despite a meaningless loss in week 17 to the Viks they are rested and ready to defend their Superbowl title. The first time these 2 teams met in the beginning of November it was a tight game in which the Gigantes just pulled off the W 36-31, you can bet both teams are studying that game tape. The Giants will do the same thing they have done all year, pound it on the ground, throw on short yardage situations and let Jacobs batter it in from yards out. Their defense is still on hit and should give McScrubb all he can handle on Sunday which should lead to at least a couple turnovers and you can bet NY DB Sam Madison is licking his lips in anticipation. Both teams are pretty evenly matched on offense, and coming into last week I would have said that the Giants had the better D, but after watching Philly last week I think they have really stepped up at the end of the season and could be more of a nuasense then NY wants to acknowledge. I am going to go out on a limb and take the points in this one. I’m pretty sure that the Giants will win, but it is going to be close, and I mean REAL close. Take points, before it comes down.

Saturday, January 10th, 4:30pm EST

Baltimore Ravens
Tennessee Titans -3 35

My Pick: For the Ravens last week it was all about the run game as Rookie QB Joe Flacco was under constant pressure from the Miami D. He will not find much has changed this week as he heads to Tennessee where they love to hurt opposing QB’s. The Titans D is a bit tougher than Miami and I expect to see the same pressure he took in Miami, but he will have to get rid of the ball faster and quit waiting for a play to develop that isn’t there. They will most likely split carries between McGahee and McClaine on the ground and you could see just how bad Flacco wanted to hook up on the long bomb with Mason, but it never happened, if he pushes the issue that way against the Titans, it could be a long day for the Ravens. Their defense is still the heart and soul of the team and I expect a low scoring game as Tennessee doesn’t give up much points either. The Titans are coming off a long rest and Kerry Collins needs to establish himself right off the bat or the Ravens D may frustrate him as they did against Pennington. The Titans are a little more balanced on offense between passing and throwing and I think spread out the Ravens D making it tougher to anticipate their next move. The Titans were the cinderella story this year after Vince Young basically quit forcing Collins to step up and step up he did going 14-2 and now everyone has them pegged for a Superbowl appearance, they have all the ingrediantes, great running game in Chris Johnson and LenDale White, veteran QB in Collins who does not make many mistakes and a superb defense that can shut opposing offenses down. The long break between games shouldn’t matter and Tennessee has been unbeaten at home this year, it will be a tough hard fough game, but I think the Titans have what it takes to stop the run and dig in that ass. Give the points.

Sunday, January 11th, 4:45pm EST

San Diego Chargers
Pittsburgh Steelers -6 38.5

My Pick: The Chargers pulled off an unexpected W last week against an Indy team that should have pounded them into the ground. This is some what of a win streak for Norv Turner and the Chargers. LT failed to produce much despite that he was healthy and it was the little man Sproles who had to save the day in OT no less. This week in Pittsburgh they may be feeling the chill in 3 Rivers stadium. Their D needs to straighten up or they will get burned in Pitt, the secondary needs to be more disciplined and quit with the penaltys or there is no hope for the Chargers. Big Ben and Co. have had some time to rest and get healthy and with the top rated D in the league you can bet that Felipe’ Rivers is already having nightmares. Everyone knows that San Diego can score, but cna they stop the other team from scoring??? This is the big question, because if they can’t stop Big Ben from tossing it down field all day they won’t be able to keep up, and don’t even get me started on Willie Parker and Mewelde Moore, I think these guys have a field day on Sunday. I keep bashing the Chargers and they keep on winning, I think they did this same thing last year only to lose it all in the end, this year Pitt is too tough and don’t have the injuries that held them back last year. I think they are out for blood and whose better to spill than the Chargers. Sticking with my, “Hate all teams from Southern California” mantra I have to say, give the points, before it goes up.

Saturday, January 3rd

Indianapolis Colts -1 51
San Diego Chargers

My Pick: The Chargers have surprised alot of people lately and I am one of them. They way they beat up Tampa and the Broncos at the end of the season to get in was the stuff of shock and awe even after Norv Turner officially started to try and kill his own team as he is so used to doing. Felipe’ Rivers has been on his game and even LT has come back to life and been allowed to run a little and amazingly enough their defense has even shown up when it counted. The Chargers always seem to do this, they tank half way through the season and talk a bunch of smack about each other and then at the end of the season they make a run just to be dramatic about the whole thing. The way that they pounded on the Broncos really took me back, not because I thought the Broncos were that good, but because I think San Diego is that bad. They proved me wrong, but I am still not jumping on their bandwagon because; 1. It has been stated that I am a hater of all teams from Southern California and 2. When they piss it down their leg they really do it all the way…If these guys make a mistake you can bet Indy will capitalize on it and Felipe’ has been known to throw a pick or 3 in his time. The Colts got off to a slow start at the beginning losing 4 games very early on, but have since found their groove and doing what it takes to win the game. They are mixing it up and even getting Dominick Rhodes involved. Their defense just shut out the Titans last week and while I know Tennessee was taking it easy they were still trying to score just for the sake of saving their pride and they were denied. Indy has sold me, San Diego (which is German for, a Whales Vagina) has not. Give the point, I think Peyton wants to silence the critics and can make a legitimate run at another Superbowl title.

Sunday, January 4th

Baltimore Ravens -3 37.5
Miami Dolphins

My Pick: I called it back in week 13, I said that the Dolphins are going to the playoffs and here they are riding a 5 game win streak with a record of 11-5 when just one year ago they were 1-15. The defense is on point and the offense has not been this productive in 5 years, Pennington has really brought it all together down there and coach Tony Sparano has gotten the best out of what he has to work with. This is definitely a playoff worthy team, however is it too much to ask a team to do a complete 180′ like they have and still progress in the playoffs? I think so and despite my renewed enthusiasim for the Fin’s I don’t think they can handle a team like the Ravens who are so balanced on both sides of the ball. Rookie QB Joe Flacco has gotten the Baltimore faithful all fired up as he has remained posed and confident in the pocket and constantly finding Derrick Mason deep down the field. The 3 pronged running attack from McGahee, McClain and Rice has been dominating opposing defenses all season long and cannot be denied the endzone once inside the 20 yard line. Their defense is yet again top of the league and will provide more than a little frustration for Pennington and Brown. I doubt you will see much wildcat formations in this game, it just doesn’t work against Ray Lewis and the Ravens D. I think both defenses will show up to play and it is going to stay tight, but I don’t think the Fins can get it done when it comes down to the wire. The brain says give the points, but my heart says take them. You decide…

Saturday, January 3rd

Atlanta Falcons -2 51
Arizona Cardinals

My Pick: The Cards won their season ender vs Seattle, but after clinching the division it was very noticable the change in attitude and urgency that the Cardinals displayed. They seemed very lax and didn’t let a few losses really get to them. This concerns me because a team like the Cardinals that haven’t been to the playoffs since before I was born really need to finish the season strong and make sure everything is clicking to ensure against any brain farts that may occur due to lack of preparation. The Cards need to shift the focus from their passing game to their run game and Tim Hightower if they want to be successful against a stingy Falcons D that constantly puts the pressure on opposing QB’s. This may be a heavy load for Hightower who has never played in the post season before, but I think he can be successful or at least enough to keep up with Michael Turner. They will still go back to the pass when they are in trouble, but if the Cardinals think they are just going to go pass happy and trade TD’s through the air with the Falcons then they have another thing coming. Matt Ryan in his rookie year has already given the Falcon faithful something to be very excited about for years to come and Roddy White is always there in the clutch to hook up and get that 1st down, then when you compliment him with Michael “the Burner” Turner you have a very potent offense that puts up big numbers. AZ at home is nothing to get excited about, they should be more relaxed, but at the end of the day if they get in a shootout with the Falcons I don’t think they can keep up in the end. The Cards need to bring their D to play and slow down Turner and keep pressure on Ryan. If they can do that then they win the game straight up. I really, I mean REALLY like the Falcons, but I’m not sure they are ready yet and with Kurt Warner being as old as he is with the team that he is on, I think its just fate that will decide this and AZ gets the W. Take the points.

Sunday, January 4th

Philadelphia Eagles -3 42
Minnesota Vikings

My Pick: Both of these teams are big surprises and got in on last minute flukes and blunders by teams in their divisions. As predicted, the Eagles stoomped on the Cowboys in the season finale and Donavan McScrub actually played pretty damn good throwing 300+ yards and 3 TD’s. Minny narrowly escaped the Giants in the 4th quarter winning by a lousy field goal to go up by 1 point with no time left. This pick is very simple, they are playing in a dome so weather is not an issue, the Viks barely got the W against the Giants backup players while the Eagles took pleasure in bitchh slapping the Boys’ and their starters who were desperately trying to get the W and the last spot in the playoffs, McScrub is playing like the McNabb of old days while Tavaris Jackson still needs a couple seasons to iron out the kinks. Both defenses are playing stout, but the fear that the Viks D brought in the beginning of the season has since faded and they are not the same top rated D that they once were. Philly was all but written off this year as early as week 12, but now is resurgent and in the groove. Bottom line is that Philly is just the better team here and at -3 it is is a steal and I foresee this closing at -4 before its all said and done. Give the points now before it goes up, you’ll thank me later…

It’s the ultimate event of the year with the original Ultimate Fighter, Forrest Griffin defending his title against “Sugar” Rashad Evans. Then the Ultimate Fighter coaches face off as Interim World Heavyweight Champion, Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira takes on former heavyweight champion, Frank Mir. Plus, two of the hardest hitting light heavyweights go toe-to-toe when Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva battles former light heavyweight champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

Gamblerspalace.com is proud to offer all of the odds on the most stacked fight card of the year, including the untelevised fights. My picks for the 3 big fights and the betting lines for all fights of the night are listed below.

Main Event

Light Heavyweights
Forrest Griffin -130 (risk $130 to win $100)
“Sugar” Rashad Evans Ev (risk $100 to win $100)
My Pick: Evans is undefeated and coming off of a flawless knockout of Chuck Liddell. He has proven that he is fast enough to standup and catch opponents with the KO as well as agile enough to go to the ground and look for the submission. Griffin is no doubt as tough as they come, but I don’t knwo how he is going to react to Evans’ standup attack. Everyone doubted Evans in the Liddell fight and he was a huge underdog, only the wise such as myself got down on the 2 -1 money and cashed in on the KO. The line is much more realistic this time and at even money he is still a steal. It won’t be easy, but I think Evans keeps the undefeated streak alive tonight. Bet the farm on Evans.

Heavyweights
Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira -360 (risk $360 to win $100)
Frank Mir +235 (risk $100 to win $235)
My Pick: Frank Mir is coming back into his own after coaching the latest season of Ultimate Fighter and at more than two to one you have to at least put some fun money down on him as is the case with any hand to hand fight. Minotauro has weaknesses, I can remember a few years ago when he was all but finished off by Heath Herring who in a block headed move allowed Nogueira to get up after an astounding jab that leveled him and opened the door for a KO, but he pissed it down his leg in the end and Nogueira narrowly escaped with the decision. Point is that you can’t lay money on -360, its not worth it and the guy has a soft jaw. Mir will should try to standup and punch it out with him instead of going to the ground, but we will see. If they box, I think Mir levels him. Take the dog, the payoff is too big to ignore.

Light Heavyweights
Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva-145 (risk $145 to win $100)
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson +115 (risk $100 to win $115)
My Pick: Hands down this is a Rampage vistory.

Middleweights
CB Dolloway -180 (risk $180 to win $100)
Mike Massenzio +140 (risk $100 to win $140)

Heavyweights
Cheick Kongo -330 (risk $330 to win $100)
Mustapha Al-Turk +250 (risk $100 to win $250)

Middleweights
Yushin Okami -380 (risk $380 to win $100)
Dean Lister +255 (risk $100 to win $255)

Heavyweights
Antoni Hardonk -360 (risk $360 to win $100)
Mark Burch +235 (risk $100 to win $235)

Light Heavyweights
Matt Hamill -410 (risk $410 to win $100)
Resse Andy +260 (risk $100 to win $260)

Welterweights
Ryo Chonan -165 (risk $165 to win $100)
Brad Blackburn +130 (risk $100 to win $130)

Heavyweights
Dan Evanson +165 (risk $100 to win $165)
Pat Barry -215 (risk $215 to win $100)

Sunday, December 28th

Kansas City Chiefs
Cincinnati Bengals -3 37.5
My Pick: The Bengals surprised the Browns last week in a drubbing that I can only call humiliating to the Cleveland faithful and now Ol Romeo is on the hot seat and may be looking for a job next season. The Chiefs failed to cover last week, but they did show some promise. This week I think they get another W. Take the points.

St. Louis Rams
Atlanta Falcons -14 44
My Pick: My boy Matt Ryan has clinched a playoff spot in his rookie season and the future looks bright for the Falcons. I think the spread may be a bit high as I don’t expect them to take any unneccessary risks before the playoffs, but even at half speed the Lambs are no match for them, besides it is in St Louis’ best interest to lose and get a better draft pick. Give the points.

New England Patriots -6 42.5
Buffalo Bills
My Pick: Buffalo spoiled the Broncos slide into the playoffs last week with a come from behind win and now they will look to spoil it for the Pats who need a win and a couple key loss’ to move forward. The Bills won too many games to get a great draft pick so they will go komikaze at home. Take the points.

Detriot Lions
Green Bay Packers -10 43
My Pick: The Packer played well in Chicago and Rodgers looked solid, but it was too little too late and they blew it in overtime. The real question is whether the Lion cubs will really go winless this year? The last game of the year with broke down Culpepper at the Q and playing in the freezing tundra of Green Bay the answer is obviously yes they will tie the 76′ Bucs winless record and Rodgers, actually the entire team will be playing hard to keep their jobs for next season. Give the points.

Tennesse Titans -3 38.5
Indianapolis Colts
My Pick: Indy clinched their wildcard birth and Tennessee has long sinced clinched homefield advantage. The spread says that the Titans D is tougher than the Indy O wants to play. I disagree, take the points, in a pointless game like this the home team always has the advantage espcially when neither team will be playing particularly hard to prove something. Take the points.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Baltimore Ravens -12 35.5
My Pick: A Ravens win and some key losses and they may get in. The way they beat up the Cowboys last week in the last 3 and a half minutes was awesome! They will do it again at home this week against the less than impressive Jaguars who need a serious makeover in the offseason. Give the points.

Chicago Bears
Houston Texans -2.5 46.5
My Pick: Despite the fact that the Bears are still in the hunt, it is the Texans that will shine this week as they will be playing at home and the Bears won’t have that freezing weather on their side. When you look at how Rodgers picked them apart last week you gotta think that Andre Johnson will have a spectacular game against the Bears D who haven’t been the lynch pin as they usually are. Give the points, Da Bears aren’t going anywhere this year and if they think signing Kyle Orton to a big contract is going to fix their problems then they have another thing coming. The truth is that the Bears have not had a good QB since Jim McMahan. Give the points.

Oakland Raiders
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -13 39
My Pick: Tampa got caught off guard against those scrubs from San Diego and now they need a win a couple losses to get into the post season. They will hold nothing back this week, but neither will the Raiders who are playing for fun and that perhaps makes them more dangerous. The Bucs will win, but they won’t cover, they need to be conservative. Take the points. I have been right on the Raiders most of the season, why should it stop now…

Cleveland Browns
Pittsburgh Steelers -10.5 32.5
My Pick: Pitt is waaaaaaaaaaaay too tough for those scrubs from Cleveland. Give the points. Nuff said…

NY Giants
Minnesota Vikings -6.5 42
My Pick: The Gigantes will be resting, the Viks have nothing to play for besides their jobs and pride. Give the points.

Carolina Panthers -3 52
New Orleans Saints
My Pick: Carolina is in, but they need to keep their momentum going and the Aints are done anyways. Give the points.

Dallas Cowboys
Philadelphia Eagles -1.5 43
My Pick: I’m having a flashback to a couple weeks ago when the Boys’ got pummeled by the one man show of Brian Westbrook. I just rubbed my magic ball and saw the same vision. Its a matter of pride for the Eagles and nothing feels better to any team than sticking it to Dallas. Give the points.

Miami Dolphins
NY Jets -3 42
My Pick: Miami is in full playoff mode and they will not be slowing down int he Meadowlands this week. Brett ol Boy blew it in Seattle in what should have been an easy win and bid for a playoff run. The Dolphins are not what people think. They are about 10 times better than that. Take the points and watch one of the greatest 2 year turn arounds in the history of the NFL.

Seattle Seahawks
Arizona Cardinals -5.5 45
My Pick: The Cards have already clinched, but this game will more about AZ letting the Seahawks know who owns the NFC West now and for the forseable future. AZ wins by a TD thus, they cover. Give the points.

Washington Redskins
San Francisco 49′ers -3 37
My Pick: It looks more and more like Mike Singletary will be the head coach next year and rightfully so, plus who else wants that job??? Its over for the Skins at least this year and now rumors are that the Zorn supremacy is in danger of being replaced. Say it isn’t so Daniel Schiender… I think Jim Zorn pulls out all the stops and ends on a good note, plus he needs to secure his job for next year. Take the Skins, take the points.

Sunday Night Football

Denver Broncos
San Diego Chargers -9 50
My Pick: This game got really interesting due to the blunder of the Denver Broncos losing at home last week to the lowly Bills of Buffalo. All of a sudden the Chargers have a chance to steal the division right out from under them and take the last playoff spot in the AFC. The Charger faithful are flying high because of a disgusting upset of the Bucs in Tampa and they all of a sudden have aspirations after most people had written them off for the year. The Broncos had a hiccup at home where they were favored by 7, but in the 4th quarter they stopped playing and blew the lead as well as their chance to clinch the division. Now Jay Cutler and co. have got to strap up and head to sunny San Diego where they will need their defense to finish the game or get left behind. There is no doubt that the Broncos can keep up offensively as they lead the Chargers in all of the offensive records categories so it again will come down to whose defense shows up. The Chargers have been hit and miss lately when it comes down to stopping opposing QB’s. If they give Cutler and inch you can bet he will take a mile with all the WR talent he has to work with against a shaky Charger secondary. Also I’m sure that Norv Turner will try to make it a throwing contest between his in the closet lover Felipe Rivers and Jay Cutler thus ignoring their most prized player in LT. I think the spread is grossly high and when you lok at the stats there is nothing convincing to justify the -9. Take the points before the bookies come to their senses and bring it down.

My Pick: Well, Sam Bradford won the Heisman trophy and with 4400 yards passing, 48 TD’s with only 6 INT’s and a 68% completion rate it is well deserved. This guy passes for over 300yds/game like its taking candy from a baby. I expect no less for the National Championship game, with a supporting cast the likes of WR Juaquin Iglesias and his 15.8 yards per catch and 2 count them 2 RB’s in Chris Brown and DeMarco Murray both breaking the 1000 yards rushing barrier, you can expect all kinds of scoring on January 8th. The one question mark is the Sooner defense which will need to contain the ever mobile Tim Tebow who has rushed for over 500 yards this season and 12 TD’s from behind center. A big key to a Florida victory is the O line dominating the Sooner defensive front and allow the big runs and big plays that have made Florida so successful as playing short conservative ball is not their style, you can tell from stats: RB Chris Rainey 7.9 ypc, RB Jeffery Demps 8.4 ypc, WR Louis Murphy 17 ypr, WR Percy Harvin 17 ypr. These guys don’t don anything small and the total at 72 may be too low, I could see this game flying over the total. The Florida D seems to be playing better and holding opponents to fewer points just as they did against then #1 Alabama in the SEC Championship. If the Gators can keep pressure on Bradford and force the short game they stand to clobber the Sooners. The Sooner D may be able to close up the holes in the middle and force Tebow to pass, but thats not exactly an upside. I usually like the dog in the championship game, but the proof is in the pudding, the Gators are the better team and they are playing at home pretty much. At -3 you are looking at a push if anything. Take the GATORS give the points, I can see this line closing at -4.5 before its over.

My Pick: Texas was hoping to be in Miami right about now for the BCS Championship game, but they will have to settle for the Fiesta Bowl. They will put their faith in Heisman candidate QB Colt McCoy whose 3400 passing yards, 32 TD’s and 77% completion average has had the Longhorns flying high all season except for a freak loss at Texas Tech that would ultimately keep them out of the National Championship game. Ohio State was in the top 3 earlier in the season, but a few key losses along the way shattered any hope of another Championship run. QB Terrelle Pryor is the key to their success, he is a very mobile QB that is not afraid to run, but can also sit tight in the pocket and make a throw. The Buckeyes are not that pass happy and with RB Chris Wells and his 5.7 ypc average they don’t have to be. Their defense has been playing well of late and I think they make the right adjustments to slow down McCoy and Co. The spread is high against a Buckeye’s team that knows how to get into the endzone and they have the defense to back them up. I think that Texas wins just because McCoy is soo good, but I don’t think they cover and this will be one of the more tight games going down the stretch. Take the points.
