The South Florida Bulls (4-0, 3-1 ATS) will look to remain perfect Thursday, September 29th when they hit the road for the second time this season to open up Big East play against the Pittsburgh Panthers (2-2, 1-3 ATS) who secured their first CFB betting win of the season last week; kick-off from Heinz Field is scheduled for 8:00 ET on ESPN and ESPN3.com.

After three straight home games, the Bulls hit the road a perfect 4-0 SU while making winners of those that backed them on the pointspread on three occasions. The lone ATS defeat came just last week when the Bulls had problems putting away what turned out to be a feisty UTEP Miners outfit. They only found themselves up by two TDs heading into the final quarter, but doubled that lead to secure the 52-24 victory; the 28-point triumph came up just short of covering the closing 30-point CFB betting line.

QB B.J. Daniels continued to impress completing 15 of his 24 passes for 202 yards and a pair of scores. The dual threat also rushed for 150 yards and a TD on 15 carries. The junior field general has now thrown for 1071 yards and sports a terrific TD/INT ratio of 8/1. The Bulls offense currently ranks 9th in the country in total yards (531.2 YPG) and 10th in points scored (45.5 PPG).

Defensively, the 24 points allowed last week was the team’s highest output allowed on the year. Coach Skip Holtz’s stop unit has been downright filthy against the run (#15 at 82.5 YPG), but has been a bit generous defending the pass (#75 at 231.2 YPG). In all, the Bulls are allowing an average of just 17 PPG (#23) and own a +8 turnover margin on the year (+2 per game).

For the second week in a row, the Pitt Panthers failed to hold onto a lead in the 4th quarter, and because of it, dropped their second straight game to fall to 2-2 SU on the year. The offense has struggled mightily all season long, as QB Tino Sunseri has not shown the command needed to run head coach Todd Graham’s offense successfully. The junior quarterback did complete 22 of his 30 passes thrown last week, but for only 165 yards. For this offense to thrive, and for the Panthers to be a better CFB betting odds investment, more success is needed through the air so the Panthers can utilize big play threat RB Ray Graham more.

As it is, PITT ranks below average on both sides of the ball in terms of yardage gained and allowed. The offense checks in ranked 81st overall in total yardage rushing for an average of 148.8 YPG (#62) and passing for 221.5 YPG (#68). Their 27.2 PPG average is good for the 77th best mark in the land. Defensively, PITT has simply been torn apart through the air (#115 at 306.2 YPG), but has proven stout versus the run allowing an average of 105.5 YPG (#34); the 22.8 PPG allowed ranks 52nd. They’ve held onto the ball relatively well turning it over six times while forcing four turnovers themselves.

CFB Betting Prediction – PITT rattled off its third straight win in this series last season when it snapped a 10-10 tie in the 4th quarter with a long TD run to win by a 17-10 final tally. That loss did not sit pretty with Coach Holtz and his staff, and we’re looking for the Bulls to come out fired up in front of a national TV audience and let all the coaches and pollsters know just how real they are. South Florida has covered each of its L/5 road games and is a perfect 4-0 ATS when playing off an ATS defeat. The Bulls are more in tune with what the coaches want from them at this point of the season, while the Panthers are going through some major growing pains. It will show on the scoreboard once this one’s all said and done!
