Cincinnati enters this NCAA football gambling affair as a decided 8-point home favorite.

After what the Bearcats did to Austin Peay in week one, many around the Big East (or what’s going to be left of it) started to get worried about the boys from Cincy. However, a humbling loss to the Tennessee Vols in Knoxville the following week sent the Cats crashing back down to earth. How would they respond? Only by taking out their aggression on lowly MAC opponent, Akron, in a brutal 59-14 beat down last Saturday at Nippert Stadium; Cincy is averaging better than 51 points per game heading into their Week 4 contest against NC State.

Though the Zips somehow out gained the Bearcats in total offense, Cincy’s defense was on display throughout the afternoon, forcing six Akron turnovers, three of which were returned for three first half touchdowns. “Obviously a good team won today,” said second year Cincinnati head coach Butch Jones. “We were very opportunistic on defense, it was great to see. I like the confidence our back end played with today. There break and drive, they attacked the ball in the air which we talked about all week. We were able to generate a pass rush and I thought our defensive line did some good things.” Though NC State has not put up the numbers the Bearcats have this season, the Wolfpack will provide Cincy with its toughest home test of young season.

Cincinnati is both 2-1 SU & ATS this season and against the NCAA football gambling odds; the ‘over’ is a perfect 3-0. Though the Bearcats are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games as a favorite, Cincy is just 3-7 ATS in its last ten non conference tussles.

It seemed like NC State took a page right out of Cincinnati’s notebook by winning its opener and dropping its Week two contest before bouncing back with a big win over a lesser opponent last Saturday. The Wolfpack rolled over Liberty, fell to conference foe Wake Forest and came back last week to down South Alabama 35-13 at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. NC State never trailed in the ball game, but unlike Cincy’s win over Akron, the Wolfpack did not finish with an advantage in the turnover battle, causing three while committing three of their own.

Despite unfavorable weather conditions, quarterback Mike Glennon threw four touchdown passes but the Pack’s win was far from pretty according to head coach, Tom O’Brien. “Some teams aren’t pretty and we’re certainly not a pretty team but we found a way to get it done,” O’Brien said. And though the Wolfpack improved on pass defense, its defensive front still needs work after South Alabama freshman, Kendall Houston, ran for 117 yards last Saturday. The team’s winning record may be a bit of a misleading factor for those thinking that NC State has a legitimate shot at pulling off a win on the road.

NC State (2-1) has yet to beat the NCAA football gambling lines this season (0-3 ATS) while the ‘over’ is 2-1. That said; the Wolfpack is 3-0-1 ATS in their last four battles against Big East opposition.
