Washington is now a third of the way towards becoming bowl eligible after last week when it took care of business at home against the Hawaii Warriors en route to winning 40-32 and covering the closing 5.5-point spread. The squad got out to a quick 21-0 lead and looked to be well on its way towards putting the game away, but Hawaii came up with a 99-yard interception return to cut the lead to seven. Coach Steve Sarkisian’s kids didn’t panic however, and calmly went down the field to tack on another TD before the break.
The opposition may not have been the greatest, but the Huskies offense has proven capable behind the leadership of QB Keith Price. The sophomore sports a 70 percent completion percentage and has thrown for 417 yards and a 7/1 TD/INT ratio; he and WR Devin Aguilar have formed a very potent duo. And don’t forget about 2nd Team Pac-12 RB Chris Polk who’s surpassed the 100-yard plateau in both of the Huskies CFB betting odds games this season.
He will no doubt be licking his chops to get a piece of a Huskers stop unit that allowed Fresno State RB Robbie Rouse chew up 169 yards and 4.7 YPC on the ground last week.
Nebraska tapered off towards the end of last season, dropping three of its final four games including the Holiday Bowl against today’s opponent. But just like last season, the Cornhuskers have gotten off to a perfect start taking care of business with relative ease against Chattanooga before outscoring Fresno State 28-12 in the second half of last week’s battle; the 13-point win came up dreadfully short of the closing 28-point CFB betting line to drop the Huskers to 0-2 ATS on the year.
QB Taylor Martinez completed 10 of his 21 passes for 219 yards and a score, but the sophomore tossed a pair of errant passes into the Bulldogs defense as well. That said, he electrified the sellout crowd with his legs rushing for 166 yards and a pair of scores; the last one of the 46-yard variety coming with just 2:02 left to put the game away.
Washington has proved to be more porous in the secondary in the early goings, so Martinez better be sharp in the passing game while navigating the Huskers new no-huddle attack in this spot.
CFB Betting Prediction – Only five other times in college football history have teams from different conferences locked horns three times over a two year stretch. With that being the case, both coaching staffs will have a solid idea of what to expect when their kids line up on Saturday. Nebraska will more than likely be playing with a chip on its shoulder after getting embarrassed in the Holiday Bowl, but Washington enters as the more experienced team and looks to be more sound on both sides of the ball. Big Red’s just 9-11 ATS as a home favorite under Pelini, while U-Dub has won and covered each of its L/3 away from Seattle and is 4-1-1 ATS its L/6 as a dog of 10.5 or more points. Look for the Huskies to hang as this one goes down to the wire!
