NCAA Football Betting Odds
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-3.5) -110
Michigan Wolverines (+3.5) -110
Over/Under 55.5
It was a very interesting Week 1 for both the Irish and Wolverines as both saw their games delayed by lightning and terrible weather. Michigan was granted the home win with the Western Michigan Broncos conceding down 34-10 with the entire 4th quarter remaining. However, all that backed the maize and blue on the spread saw their investments returned with the game deemed no action due to the game not reaching the 55 minutes required to make the game official.
As for Notre Dame, it was able to get its entire NCAAF betting odds match-up in against South Florida even though it had to be stopped a number of occasions due to the insane weather that plagued most of the first weekend of college gridiron action.
If you punch up Brian Kelly on YouTube this week, you’ll no doubt see his head looking like it was about to explode while chewing into both QBs Dayne Crist and Tommy Rees after throwing interceptions in the end zone. However, it wasn’t only the play of his young field generals that got him all worked up on the sidelines as the 97 yard fumble return just four minutes into the game set the tone that the Irish was never able to battle back from.
Still, Notre Dame flat out dominated the game statistically rushing for 117 yards and passing for another 391. When the dust cleared, the Irish saw themselves on the short end of the 23-20 NCAAF betting final score, but still gouged a solid Bulls defense. Though Michigan only allowed a total of 279 yards, it allowed Western Michigan QB Alex Carder to complete 71 percent of his passes for 183 yards. ND QB Tommy Rees completed 24-of-34 passes for 296 yards and two TDs after replacing Dayne Crist in the second half. Provided he limits his errant passes, the youngster should be able to take advantage of a Wolverines pass defense that looks to be a bit leaky.
Michigan’s offense looked to be much different as new HC Brady Hoke does not want to have to solely rely on the legs and arms of QB Denard Robinson much like the Rich Rodriguez regime did. That said; it only managed 288 overall yards, and of the 34 overall points scored, 14 came from the defense on interception and fumble returns. Notre Dame only allowed 254 total yards from scrimmage, so we’ll get an even clearer picture of the Wolverines attack come Saturday night.
NCAAF Betting Prediction – Each of the last two games played between these historic teams has been of the high scoring variety with Michigan winning both battles. Points will once again be put on the board in this contest, but this time, it will be Notre Dame coming out on top. The Fighting Irish are 7-3 ATS the L/10 times they were favored on the road, while the Wolverines have failed to cover each of their L/4 as home underdogs. Brady Hoke is an exceptional coach, but he still has much work to do in Ann Arbor. Look for an extremely crisp and determined output from the Golden Domers on Saturday night!
