Here we are again, back in Paris, France to witness another Grand Slam tournament in clay. The clay court rankings are totally different than the regular ATP or WTA World Tennis Rankings, not every player is good on this kind of conditions so all predictions could be made based on the new Clay Court Rankings 2010 that once more shows Rafael Nadal from Spain as a big time favorite to regain the crown after suffering a defeat against Roger Federer last year at this same tournament.

Tournament: 2010 Roland Garros or French Open
Category: Grand Slam Tournament
Includes: ATP and WTA players
Location: Paris, France.
Date: 05/23/2010 until 06/06/2010.

ATP TOUR RANKINGS & CLAY RANKINGS

The results are out and the new Clay Court Rankings are up. Roger Federer as No.1 in he World as the ATP World Rankings said knows that Rafael Nadal as No.2 has greater chances to win this Grand Slam than he does. Rafa Nadal hasn’t lost a single match on clay all year and he has lost only one game on parisian clay last year, the final against Federer so by what I have seen from him lately Nadal looks mighty powerful and incredibly solid on clay, like the old Nadal who won 4 Roland Garros in a row. Other names are mentioned on this particular ranking, names like David Ferrer and Fernando Verdasco as No.2 and No.3 in importance, they have [layed great tennis on clay this year so they deserver to be in this list. Also Juan Carlos Ferrero, Ernests Gulbis as No.5 is a nice addition and a sweet surprise to all the fans that love a good underdog. Roger Federer appears on this list as No.6 which means he still has a great chance to be in the Final against may be Nadal or any of the Top 10 but he has to improved the foot work. Following the list we find Stanislas Wawrinka another nice surprise, Nicolas Almagro, Albert Montanes and Juan Monaco complete the top 10. Out of this Top 10 list we find Novak Djokovic, an amazing player but at this moment struggling on this surface so he needs to focus more on his preparation if he wants to show others what he can do. Big absences by injuries will be: Juan Martin del Potro, David Nalbandian, Juan Monaco still hurt but not injured but a huge deal for the french will be the absence of Gilles Simon pulling out of his home Grand Slam with a knee problem and Gael Monfils being able to play only Madrid this spring because of a hand injury.

PREDICTION

Basically I will be making my prediction based on what I have seen on the latest tournaments and on the Clay Rankings. Right now in my opinion the winner of the 2010 Roland Garros will be Rafael Nadal without a doubt, he is the absolute best on clay but some of his country men (the clay rankings are full of players from spain) could actually give us a great surprise upsetting big time players according to the ATP Regular Ranking.

WTA TOUR RANKINGS & CLAY RANKINGS

As a nice treat the name in No.1 spot at the Clay Rankings is Venus Williams. She had had some rough patches this year but she has managed to bounce back from the bad times and get the best out of her to win some preparation tournaments. This is Venus surface and I wouldn’t be surprise if she makes it to the Final. Her sister Serena Williams as No.1 on the WTA Rankings is out of the top 10 on the Clay Rankings and her game doesn’t just inspire confidence, she needs to work a lot now on the preparation before it’s too late. The No.2 spot on the clay list is for Jelena Jankovic with a lot to prove still, next will be three great surprises Aravane Rezai who won Madrid, while Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez won Rome and Samantha Stosur won the green day event in Charleston. Justine Henin confirmed that she’ll be a French Open contender again after winning in Stuttgart, but then got hit by a virus and hit off the court by Rezai in Madrid, leaving her preparation mixed. Still, she’s in better shape than the rest of the Belgians, with Kim Clijsters withdrawing with a foot injury and Yanina Wickmayer racing against time to be ready after an elbow operation. Everything points to a change in the faces of the finalists at the French Open and all this because the russians are on a free fall mode. None of the russian girls are playing at their usual level on clay, this will open the door to new surprises. Svetlana Kuznetsova all the way down doesn’t look ready to repeat this year, Elena Dementieva doing better than the rest of the russians but not impressing anyone with her perfomances and Maria Sharapova, returning from injury, is just testing the waters and with these three big names as I said before the road could open up to bigger and better players, may be younger too.

PREDICTION

This grand slam looks tougher for the girls in it. The players involved could get a boost after their easy first round match ups, big names are not even close to be ready for this surface now so basically the favorite Venus Williams could be the winner of the 2010 Roland Garros or may be reach the finals but also names like Jelena Jankovic, Safarova, Wozniacki, Petrova or even Serena Williams could make it to the Final. We cannot forget also Justine Henin that has won this tournament 4 times already, she could be the only one that can defeat Venus so she could me my no.1 pick for the tournament. JUSTINE HENIN TO WIN 2010 ROLAND GARROS IS THE PREDICTION OF THE DAY.

It’s time for another exciting tennis season and the best way to kick start will be with a great first grand slam tournament, The Australian Open. Both ATP and WTA send their best of the best to compete for a great purse and the chance to climb important spots in the rankings, this could be the beginning to a perfect season or the signs of a bad one.

2010 Australian Open
Category: Grand Slam
Place: Melbourne, Australia
Date: 18.01.2010-31.01.2010
Draw Size: S-128 D-64
Surface: Hard

The Men’s section of this tournament have raised some eyebrows, it seems like Rafael Nadal hasn’t been playing at his best and he could be able to lose his crown since he actually won it last year but others like Roger Federer with a great desire to keep his first place and raising starts like Andy Murray, Robin Soderling, Juan Martin del Potro and Novak Djokovic bring a lot of youth and thirst to prove what they are made of. Old players like Nikolay Davydenko and Andy Roddick are almost on their way out and they need to make a mark in history. It seems like Davydenko already approach the big ones and beat them but will he be able to do it on a Grand Slam Tournament??? Roddick hasn’t had the same luck and he still gets defeated byt the top 5 so he needs to make a good tournament to climb into the first 5 seats.

This is the top 10 of the ATP:

01. Roger Federer from Switzerland. Odds 2/1
02. Rafael Nadal from Spain. Odds 3/1
03. Novak Djokovic from Serbia. Odds 6/1
04. Juan Martin Del Potro from Argentina. Odds 6/1
05. Andy Murray from United Kingdom. Odds 5/1
06. Nikolay Davydenko from Russia. Odds 10/1
07. Andy Roddick from United States. Odds 20/1
08. Robin Soderling from Sweden. Odds 18/1
09. Fernando Verdasco from Spain. Odds 40/1
10. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga from France. Odds 30/1

Any of these players could take the crown this year but there are certain players that have the road easier and they are playing at a better level. My pick to win it all will be Roger Federer.

In the Ladies’ side the tournament looks a lot more complicated. There are players like Serena Williams ranked No.1 in the World that will have an easy start but anything could happen. Dinara Safina has proven that she chokes under pressure and at the big games she usually folds so I don’t expect any surprises, she will eventually fold under pressure. Svetlana Kuznetsova, Caroline Wozniacki, Elena Dementieva, Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Jelena Jankovic could take the tournament by surprise as well. They all have what it takes to make it to the finals and the road might be a little difficult but they can still make it. But here are a couple of surprises for this tournament: No.14 Maria Sharapova is not on the Top 10 but she has great tennis and she could easily take the tournament. Another great surprise will be Kim Clijsters (retired to have a family and came back) also not on the top 10 but she is a great tennis player as well. But by far the biggest surprise will be Wild Card entry Justine Henin who was No.1 a while back and retired for personal reasons and now she decided to come back to see if she still can make and and she sure can so we can expect great things from her this year.

This is the top 10 of the WTA:

01. Serena Williams from United States. Odds 2/1
02. Dinara Safina from Russia. Odds 25/1
03. Svetlana Kuznetsova from Russia. Odds 15/1
04. Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark. Odds 15/1
05. Elena Dementieva from Russia. Odds 15/1
06. Venus Williams from United States. Odds 10/1
07. Victoria Azarenka from Belarus. Odds 20/1
08. Jelena Jankovic from Serbia. Odds 24/1
09. Vera Zvonareva from Russia. Odds 50/1
10. Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland. Odds 60/1

Other players will be

14. Maria Sharapova from Russia. Odds 8/1
15. Kim Clijsters from Belgium. Odds 3/1
WC. Justine Henin from Belgium. Odds 3/1

This is probably the most difficult pick to predict. This particular Grand Slam could be for practically anyone on the top ten and a few outside of it either for injuries or for early retirement and coming back. My pick will be Kim Clijsters not even in the top 10.

Alot has been heard about this tournament which is the oldest one and has the most rich in tradition on and off the court, players like Federer, Sharapova and many more will be travelling from France to England to play on grass and some will try to make history winning another Grand Slam Tournament.

In june 22nd all roads lead to The All England Lawn Tennis Club in London. The most famous and old grand slam tournament of the World takes place in this location and a lot of people are getting ansy to see the ATP and WTA stars facing eachother fro a spot in history.

Roger Federer already considered the BEST TENNIS PLAYER of all times is ready to win the tournament one more time with his new found breathe that took him to victory yesterday in France. His game has improved and so has his attitude, all he needs is a little patience and it will get to him like it used to when he was the No.1 player of the World. Rafael Nadal doesn’t know if he will be defending the title this year, his knee is not well and he feels he’s not ready for such a commitment, may be he will be able to do something about it but the official announcement will be made later on. This will leave the door open for players like Djokovic, Del Potro, Murray playing at home, Soderling and of course Federer which I think we will be watching him at the finals.

Former Wimbledon Champ Maria Sharapova is ready as well, after her injury last year and 11 months of rehab she is eager to prove that not all in her is beauty, that she can win in the best and worst conditions and she naturally feels at home playing in grass, this might be an opportunity to jump back to the first positions in the WTA ranking. Safina (No.1 womens’ tennis player) is up to the task after a terrible meltdown in Paris she feels the need to win this one and justifies her position to everyone. The Williams sisters will be there and that presents a great challenge to the rest and I insist it will be a great performance by the Women.

Predictions at this point will be tough since Nadal is unknown at this point but if everything remains as it is right now Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova will win once more adding another title in there incredible careers.

This will be the second GRAND SLAM tournament of the year, and the surface will be clay so that will make things a little more interesting now that Nadal obviously the favorite just lost at Madrid against his rival Roger Federer.

Rafael Nadal had an impressive record with no losses on clay for almost 3 years but Roger Federer just proved to the World that Nadal is just human, he can be beaten and Djokovic and Murray will be right around the corner too, these players have great quality and technic and they all have great chances to win it all.

Roger Federer has lost the last three finals here but he has been training hard, he will need to use all the tricks in the book to be able to beat Rafa, in Madrid he showed us that playing “outside the box” might be the way to beat an almost unbeatable player, learning new tricks is out of the question but may be the old ones will do just fine, all Federer has to do is play tough, quick, easy and finish his games faster than the rest, that will be the key.

Rafa Nadal will play the first round against Marcos Daniel from Brazil, that will be a no brainer, Nadal In 3 straight sets. Federer will face Alberto Martin from Spain, this will be an regular match for Federer and he will win without a problem.

The biggest challenges Nadal will face in the road to the finals are Nikolay Davydenko (10) from Russia and Fernando Verdasco (8) from Spain. Federer’s biggest threat will be Andy Roddick (6) from USA but he has been able to defeat him in every surface so it will be just another little bump on the road, nothing to be concerned.

Novak Djokovic (4) from Serbia will be the player to watch, all he needs to do is control his anger thru the tournament and he will do just fine. He managed to forced Nadal to a 3 set intense game and he almost defeated the greatest tennis player on clay ever, he just missed his chance by a hook, this might be a great opportunity to show what he’s really made of.

Andy Murray (3) from Great Britain is too young for this surface, he doesn’t have the experience to win it all, he might go far but not as far, I don’t see him as the champ.

The biggest surprise in this tournament without a question will be Juan Martin Del Potro (5) from Argentina, he has been playing great and he has the same technic as the great Nadal, we will be able to see great things from him although he might not make the semis but who knows, may be he will …

MY PREDICTION WILL BE A FINAL BETWEEN NADAL AND FEDERER AND ROGER FEDERER WILL DEFEAT NADAL IN 5 SETS ENDING A LONG LASTING DOMAIN FROM THE SPANISH PLAYER AT THE CITY OF LIGHTS.
