The French Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated this Sunday 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 the Argentinean David Nalbandian to win the crown of the Paris Masters andclassify for the Masters Cup season finale.

Tosonga, the world’s number 13th, secured his second title of the season and he became the first French since Sebastien Grosjean in the 2001 who won the indoor tournament in the Bercy sand.

Nalbandian resigned the title that conquered the last year when leaving a ball in the net, after waste three break balls that had made level the 5-5 last set.

I believe that they all contributed to my victory, I dedicate it to all of you, said Tsonga, 2nd place of the Australian Open at the beginning of the year, when talking to his compatriots.

Rafael Nadal y Roger Federer sufrieron lesiones y no pasaron de los cuartos de final del Másters de París , mientras que el argentino David Nalbandián avanzó a semifinales con un triunfo 7-6 (3), 6-3 sobre el británico Andy Murray.

 

Nadal se lastimó la rodilla derecha y abandonó el partido contra el ruso Nikolay Davydenko después de perder el primer set 6-1. Federer ni siquiera salió a la cancha por dolor en la espalda y cedió su duelo frente a James Blake (EE. UU.).

Nadal recibió un largo masaje en el muslo derecho cuando perdía 4-1 para tratar de soltar los músculos alrededor de la rodilla, pero no pudo comenzar el segundo set .

El favorito del torneo y primero del ranquin mundial sintió dolor en la rodilla durante la semana, pero dijo que empeoró el día del partido por la mañana.

“Lo sentí mucho cuando me levanté esta mañana. Traté de practicar, pero todavía lo sentía”, señaló. “Después fui al médico y me dio unos antiinflamatorios”.

Nadal confesó que nunca había tenido una lesión similar y dijo que necesita realizarse más pruebas médicas antes de decidir si disputará la Copa Masters que comienza el 9 de noviembre en Shanghái.

Felipe de Borbón, gave to number one of the world of tennis, Rafael Nadal the Prize Principe de Asturias de los Deportes 2008, in ceremony realized the last Friday in the Theater Campoamor de Oviedo.
“He has gained for always the admiration of all inside and outside Spain by their calm patriotism, by his strength before the difficulty, his triumphs, his humility and its example”, those were the words of the heir of the Spanish crown when giving the recognition to the tennis player.
In addition he added, “Nadal is, besides a brilliant tennis player, a great human being, a thanked young person. He never stops emphasizing with the deepest affection the fundamental influence in his life of his family, his grandparents, his parents, his uncles, his Toni uncle, that is much more that his trainer. They have known to guide him by the always difficult footpath of the success, being animated him to go of the hand of the authenticity, the simplicity and the greatness of spirit”.
On the other hand, Rafael Nadal indicated, “already I have said in several occasions that, outside the tracks, for me the Prize Principe de Asturias is the most important prize that they can give me. I am been very thankful with those who have proposed to me and voted to secure this prize”, affirmed the tennis player.
Nadal received in the voting the endorsement of 18 of the 24 members of the jury, surpassing to the American swimmer Michael Phelps, the Russian Yelena Isinbayeva and the jamaiquino Usain Volt.
The past year the Prize Principe de Asturias de los Deportes was granted to the German pilot Michael Schumacher and, from his first edition, in 1987, has been granted sportsmen of the stature of Sebastian Coe, Severiano Crossbowmen, Serguei Bubka, Hassiba Boulmerka, Lance Armstrong, Hicham El Guerrouj, Fernando Alonso and the Spanish selection of basketball, among others.
