The Masters: 2009 Tiger Woods Betting Odds

Masters Golf BettingFresh off his dramatic win over Sean O’Hair last week, Tiger Woods has started his 2009 season much like the end of his 2008 season both with spectacular wins in dramatic fashion.  His leg seems to be fine and his ability to turn up the heat on Sunday was never more evident as he came back from a 5 stroke deficit to birdie hole 18 for the win.  It was classic Tiger for sure and you can beleive the odds makers took notice as this year at Augusta he is the outright favorite at +180.  Trailing in a distant second is Phillis Mickelson at +550 and in an even farther back 3rd is Paddy Harrington at +1300.  Below you will find betting odds and links to the entire betting menu for the 2009 Masters tournament.  Read the rest of this entry »

2008 Ryder Cup: Betting Odds and Pick

rydercup 2008 Ryder Cup: Betting Odds and PickThe 37th Ryder Cup goes down this week Septemeber 16th – 21st at Vahallah Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.  Ah yes every 2 years the classic rivalry between the best Golfers in the world, with the U.S. sending the cream of the crop to take on Europe’s best in a match play format to see who walks away with the cup this year.  The Europeans much to my dismay have won the last 3 times around and with the absence of Tiger Woods team U.S.A has got an uphill battle on their hands. 2008 British Open: Betting Odds and Pick

roya 2008 British Open: Betting Odds and PickThe Open comes to Royal Birkdale for the ninth time this July 17th – 20th, and competitors will find a course that is 155 yards longer than the challenge presented to them in 1998, the last time the event was played here. The extra length is relatively inconsequential, however, compared to the tightened bunkering, newly-introduced mounds and, in the case of some holes, altered playing lines. The philosophy of the changes – which affect 16 of the 18 holes – is to reward strategic play and accurate shotmaking.  The course is a par 70 and 7,173 yards long.

FedEx Cup Playoffs

fedexcup 200 FedEx Cup PlayoffsThe FedEx Cup is a championship trophy for the PGA Tour. It is the first time that men’s professional golf will have playoffs and ultimately a champion who will be handsomely rewarded by the good folks at FedEx with a purse of $10,000,000 and an sleek stylish trophy. Announced in November 2005, it will be awarded starting in 2007 after a NASCAR-like points race. This competition will be sponsored by FedEx.

The ultimate goal is to be among the Top 144 Points Leaders following the Wyndham Championship. Only those players who are regular full-time members of the PGA Tour will earn points. A non-member who joins the PGA Tour in mid-season will be eligible to earn points in the first event he plays after officially joining the Tour.

After the Wyndham Championship, points for all eligible players are reset. With this scale, the first place regular season points leader will get 100,000 points, second place will receive 99,000, and then a sliding scale through 144th place receiving 84,700 points. The top 144 players will advance to the playoffs. The points on the reset scale will carry over into the playoffs. This is the equivalent of “seeding” as players who have performed better during the regular season will more likely advance past the first tournament in the playoffs.

The 1st leg of the 4 tourney playoff will be held on Aug 23rd – 26th at The Barclays at Westchester CC in Rye, NY.  This event will be worth 50,000 points and defending champ Vijay Singh will need every bit of those points to stay at the top of the standings.¼br> The 2nd leg will be on Aug 31st – Sept 3rd at TPC Boston for the Deutsche Bank Championship. Whose title belongs to…big surprise!!! Tiger Woods should he win again, the 50,000 points he will earn will put him at almost an insurmountable lead for the FedEx Cup.
The 3rd leg is the BMW Championship at Cog Hill GC&C from Sept 6th – 9th, again this event will be worth 50,000 points and could be the ultimate decider when determining who really has a chance to compete heading into the final leg.¼br> The Final tournament to decide a winner will be the Tour Championship at East Lake, Georgia from Sept 13th – 16th.

This being the inaugural year of the FedEx Cup it really hasn’t taken hold yet and the fans as well as the players are still confused as to exactly how it all works but look for some odds on winning the FedEx Cup leading up to The Barclays next week.

89th PGA Championship Weather

southern hills 2 89th PGA Championship WeatherIt’s gonna be HOT HOT HOT this week in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Tournament officials have issued an excessive heat warning for the week with temperatures expected to break 100 every round.  First round play begins Thursday at 8:30am est.  Expect the heat to take its toll on the less mentally fit as hitting into the rough is always more aggrevating when your sweating through your shirt.southern_hills_4.jpg

Tiger Woods, the defending champion at the PGA Championship, often plays at least one practice round at a major championship site the week before the event. Phil Mickelson and Luke Donald also have been seen at the course in recent days.  Southern Hills will host its seventh major championship and fourth PGA Championship next week. The course held the PGA Championship in 1970, 1982 and 1994, and the U.S. Open in 1958, 1977 and 2001.  Woods tied for 12th at the 2001 U.S. Open at Southern Hills, ending his “Tiger Slam” run of four consecutive majors. He finished at 3 over, seven shots behind Retief Goosen, who won in a playoff.  In a June conference call previewing the PGA Championship, Woods criticized Southern Hills for having the greens on Nos. 9 and 18 at different speeds than the other 16 holes during the event. The greens have since been rebuilt.

Along with Odds to win and Tournament Matchups, GP is pleased to offer Odds on the top golfer from the U.S., Europe, Australia-Asia, and Rest of the World.  We will also be offering various props on who will and will not make the cut as well as hole in one, over under cut score, and many more.

PGA Championship Preview

The last major of the year, it seems like the season just flew by.  The 2007 PGA Championship will be held at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The world’s best players will tee it up at this years final major, looking to improve their points position heading into the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedExCup later this month.summer hills PGA Championship Preview

The return of the PGA Championship to Southern Hills Country Club marks a record fourth time that the year’s final major will be decided in Tulsa, Okla. While the scores may not indicate it, do not be surprised if the 89th PGA is the most complete major championship examination of 2007.   Southern Hills might be a mere 7,131 yards, but the par-70 layout is chalk full of nasty challenges.  Its series of rolling tree-lined par-4s are a considerable challenge as they bend and turn while the ground on which they run twists in odd directions. The greens have such pitch that they favor only the most well-struck approach shots, even if they have to be kept relatively soft lest they perish in the August heat. Deciphering the breaks on those putting surfaces makes Southern Hills the equal of Augusta and Oakmont.

Tiger is of course the heavy favorite as he has yet to win a major this year and has gone only 2 seasons his entire career without winning at least one major during the year.  Also you have to consider how he just destroyed the field on the last day of the Bridgestone Invitational last week winning by 8 strokes and as he was the only golfer in negative numbers.  I mean the way they he just domininated like he did on the last day of the tourney was something special, Firestone is no kiddie course and he went out and played it with the ease of a 3 legged man in an ass kicking contest.  I think that Tiger could go out and do what it takes to win this week but I will be rooting for an underdog without a doubt.

In the 3 previous majors this year we have had all 1st time major winners which on the Sunday creates alot of buzz and is in fact good for golf!  I’m tired of Tiger winning majors.  I would look at some players that have been playing well recently and are due.  Some names that come to mind are Sergio Garcia and KJ Choi.  Although Garcia had a complete meltdown at the British Open he was playing well enough on a tough course to tie for 1st and for the simple fact that this guys needs to vindicate himself for the Open catastrophe and step up and win one of these.  KJ Choi is one to watch simply because he has been playing really well and consistant, he just won a tourney a couple weeks ago and has been placing in the top 10 all year.  He is waaaaay over due and it would probably be the highlight of his long career to finally get a major trophy for the display case.

In any event I would make it intresting and bet on some big underdogs to win.  Tiger will no doubt be on the leaderboard on Sunday but hes not invincible and another out of nowhere come from behind win by an underdog is exactly what golf needs to ride the ever increasing wave of popularity that it has enjoyed with the arrival of Tiger Woods to the sport.

Sergio Meltdown Yet Again!!!

sergio Sergio Meltdown Yet Again!!!On Saturday night I had remarked to a friend that I hope Sergio doesn’t go and get drunk in the club house and then piss it down his leg in the final round.

Well, well big surprise…. Sergio has yet again, let the win slip through his hands.  And he had all the help he could ask for from his competition.  A nobody from Argentina by the name of Andres Romero, gave everybody a scare when he virtuall y came out of nowhere to take the lead at -9 with only 2 holes left, and what does he do? He goes off and implodes from the pressue and double bogeys 17 and bogeys 18 to finish -6 and ultimately take 3rd.  So by this time it is a race between Sergio and Padraig Herrington who are both see-sawing between 1st and 2nd.  Then Paddy-9 steps up to what some say is the toughest hole in England, the 18th at Carnoustie, his tee shot goes wide right and looks as if it will bounce over a bridge but at the last second……gulp in the drink.  Now Paddy is shooting his 3rd shot and low and behold into the drink again.  He finally finished the hole with a double bogey dropping down to -7 while Sergio had just finished the 17th at -8.  So yet again  it looks like Sergio has lucked out and all he needs to do is hole out with a par to win by one stroke.  Your would think that would be an easy feat given that he had pared 18 each of the previous 3 days.  However, this was a different Sergio Garcia then we had been watching lead everyday of the tournament thus far, this was the Sergio we are accustomed to seeing, Sergio “choke artist” Garcia.  So long story short Sergio did not make par, he missed an 8 foot putt that would have secured his vistory and instead bogeyed and was forced into a 4 hole playoff with Paddy.  They played the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th holes, now I know what your thinking, they just got done playing these same holes, they know the layout, and how to play each hole, this should be no problem……Then Sergio tees off and pulls it left into the deep rough.  Needless to say he bogeyed the hole while Paddy birdied it.  It was all over from then on, Paddy could not be swayed and Sergio could not make up the strokes.

This leads to the next question,  what happened Sergio?……. In the past I had taken the position that whenever Sergio was leading going into the club house on Saturday and then pissed it down his leg on Sunday was due to a hangover of the combonation of liquor, female groupies, and arrogance.  Now I feel that it is much more than that, this guy was leading at every stage of the Open Championship and it all came down to one putt on the last hole to win it.  It never should have come to that, the truth is is that Sergio played like crap on Sunday and put himself in the do or die position, he shot +3 on the last day when everyone else around him was improving their scores and their positions in the money.  What stopped him from completing what is otherwise a superb tournament performance on a very difficult course?………What? I’m asking YOU…….What happened to Sergio?

2007 British Open Odds/Predictions

carnoustie 2007 British Open Odds/Predictions

The 2007 British Open will be held at Carnoustie GC on July 19th – 22nd.

The last time the Open Championship was played at Carnoustie was 1999, when Scotland’s Paul Lawrie became the unlikely champion, overcoming a 10-shot deficit on the final day and then defeating Justin Leonard and Jean Van de Velde in a playoff. That year, Woods finished in a tie for seventh.

This year Tiger is YET AGAIN the favorite at +225(risk $100 to win $225), Tiger will be shooting for his 3rd title in a row at the Open at Carnoustie where he has the chance to become the first player since Peter Thomson (1954-56) to win three Open Championships in succession.

Some other notables to watch this week include but not limited to: Phil Mickelson +1000(risk $100 to win $1000), this line provides excellent value especially when you consider that Phil tied for 1st in the Scottish Open last week only to suffer a bitter loss in a playoff at the end. Zach Johnson is another player who offers resonable value at +700(risk $100 to win $700) I really think Johnson is an up and comer and after his win at the Masters this year he probably built quite a trophy case and the Claret Jug would fit real nice along side his Masters jacket.  My dark horse pick is Adam Scott +2800(risk $100 to win $2800) I know, I know, I always pick Adam Scott as my dark horse, but thats because he is due to win a major, in fact he is waaaaaaaaay over due and at +2800 I see no reason not to throw $50 on him.  This years U.S. Open winner Angel Cabrera, is currently listed at +3200(risk $100 to win $3200).  This line obviously shows huge disrespect to a recent major winner add to the fact that Cabrera has been around hes no stranger to the majors and hes definatly no stranger to the U.K. golf courses.  This is another line that should be considered for value, $20 – $30 on Cabrera could win nearly $1k, I hope Cabrera has bet on himself and goes out there and just whips these guys around to show the bookmakers the errors in their ways.

Gamblers Palace is also pleased to offer golf props for the tournament, currently you can bet on who will be the top player from: U.S., Australia, U.K., Europe, and The Rest of the World. As well as who will/won’t make the cut, and a hole in one, yes +155 no -195.

The course itself will probably be the winner this week as I expect scores to be much higher at Carnasty than compared to the resonably managable Old Course at St. Andrews.
