The Big Ten will square off against the ACC in the Sugar Bowl on January, 3, 2011 when the Michigan Wolverines (10-2, 8-4 ATS) battle the Virginia Tech Hokies (11-2, 4-9 ATS) against the college football odds; kick-off from the Mercedes Benz Superdome in N’awlens is set to go live on ESPN & ESPN3.com at 8:30 ET.

NCAA Football Betting Odds
Michigan Wolverines (-2.5) -110
Virginia Tech Hokies (+2.5) -110
Over/Under 51

After being dealt the worst post season defeat in school history against the Mississippi State Bulldogs whom they fell to by a 52-14 final count in last year’s Gator Bowl, the folks in Ann Arbor let it be known that they were sick and tired of the Rich Rodriguez regime. That paved the way for former assistant Brady Hoke to take over the reins of the Wolverines program. With him experiencing nothing but success as a head coach in prior stops at Ball State and San Diego State, students, fans, faculty and boosters welcomed him with open arms even though he was not officially a “Michigan Man”.

They were right in doing so, as the Wolverines put forth their first double digit win season since 2006 and in the process, made those that backed them against the college football betting odds very happy by covering eight of their 12 lined games. Michigan excelled on both sides of the ball improving its point per game average from 32.8 PPG last year to 34.2 PPG (#22) this year, but the biggest improvement came on the defensive side of the ball where the Wolverines allowed just 17.2 PPG (#7) compared to a whopping 35.2 PPG a year ago. It also enters tonight’s game with a +6 turnover margin. Most importantly, Hoke coached Michigan to its first win against the Ohio State Buckeyes in eight years in the team’s regular season finale.

On the other sideline, the Virginia Tech Hokies have experienced nothing but success under head coach Frank Beamer, who wrapped up his 25th year at the helm in Blacksburg with another 10+ win season. However, it was far from being as successful for CFB bettors even though oddsmakers favored VTECH to win each of its 12 games played. The Coastal Division winners cruised to an easy pointspread cover in Week 1 versus Appalachian State, but it wasn’t until Week 7 that they toppled the closing number again. That said; the Hokies were better against the college football odds on the road where they compiled 6-1 SU & 3-4 ATS tallies.

Unfortunately for Virginia Tech, it could not solve the riddle that became the Clemson Tigers as the Atlantic Division winners went into Lane Stadium and handed them a 23-3 outright defeat as seven-point underdogs, and followed it up with another dominating performance in the ACC Championship Game beating the Hokies 38-10 once again as touchdown underdogs. Dual threat Tajh Boyd simply killed them both with his arms and his legs which should have defensive coordinator Bud Foster’s unit on red alert now being matched up against Denard Robinson.

College Football Odds Prediction – While the ACC has thrived in the underdog role in the postseason (31-14-1 ATS L/46) and the Big Ten has stunk the joint up in the favorite role (9-18 ATS L/27), we just aren’t impressed with the Hokies body of work in 2011. The ACC was down this season and hardly competitive, while the Big Ten was nip and tuck the whole way through with five teams sporting nine wins or better. Michigan looks to be on the fast track towards becoming a national powerhouse once again, and a win tonight in front of a national audience will only help the program’s recruiting. With the Wolverines 12-1 SU & 9-3 ATS in their L/12 non-conference tussles and the Hokies failing to cover each of their last four games against non-ACC opposition, look for both teams’ respective seasonal pointspread trends to continue in this spot– Go Blue!

College Football Betting Odds – Sugar Bowl Pits Buckeyes and Razorbacks

Written by North Shore Sports, Inc.

Analyzing the college football betting odds is our specialty here at Bookmaker Sportsbook, especially when we get into the bowl campaign! The Ohio State Buckeyes and Arkansas Razorbacks square off in an important affair at the Sugar Bowl that NCAA football betting fans from across the country are going to gather around to see.

NCAAF Betting Online: The Sugar Bowl will be played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, January 4th at 8:30 ET. If you’re looking to tackle the college football betting odds with betting on the go during the bowl season, you’ll love this clash between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Arkansas Razorbacks, one that is televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN3.com.

The Razorbacks did their best this year to make it to the BCS, as they took out one of the big boys in the SEC, the LSU Tigers. They also gave the Auburn Tigers one of their best games of the year and had the Alabama Crimson Tide on the ropes while they were still the No. 1 team in the land.

Head Coach Bobby Petrino was just rewarded with a large contract extension for the way that he has handled this program, guiding the team to a shade under 500 yards per game in total. Quarterback Ryan Mallett also deserves a big chunk of the accolades for beating the college football betting odds, as he took the team to 338.4 yards per game on the year without Greg Childs, the team’s top receiver, for the last month and change of the season.

The Hogs played some pretty good defense for the majority of the year as well considering the fact that they allowed 65 points to the Tigers. Allowing 338.4 yards and 22.8 points is nothing to be ashamed of, especially in the SEC West.

The Buckeyes had a fantastic defense this year though, and we have to remember that they really shut down the Oregon Ducks in last year’s Rose Bowl to pull off the outright upset against the college football betting odds.

This team allowed just 251.6 yards per game and 13.3 points per game, and if not for some special teams and offensive struggles allowing points directly or indirectly, this unit would have probably posted three or four shutouts this year.

Offensively, picking up 450.8 yards per game was fantastic. The ground game was great thanks to Daniel Herron and Terrelle Pryor. The two combined for over 1,700 yards this year, while Pryor also threw for 2,551 yards and 25 TDs.

If you’re looking for the college football betting odds in this one, you’ll find that Ohio State is the chalk by 3.5 points. The ‘total’ has been lined at 57. The ‘total’ in this game might be a wee high, but the easier route to take is that of the Razorbacks. This is going to be a great game through and through, and though the Buckeyes have a great history in bowl games, they’re not winning this one by at least four points if they win it at all.

The bowl season is officially here, and Bookmaker Sportsbook is your one stop shop for all of the gambling action you desire. Take your best shot at beating the college football betting odds with us this winter!
