Patriots vs Colts: Matchup of the Undefeated

On Sunday November 4th at the RCA Dome, the 7-0 Indianapolis Colts led by Peyton Manning will host the most electrifying team in football the 8-0 New England Patriots led by Tom Brady who is having the best start for a quarter back in NFL history!

moss.jpgThe last time these 2 teams met was in the AFC Championship game last season back on January 21st, and what transpired was finess (Peyton Manning) vs just get it done (Tom Brady) type of game.  The Colts were playing like the Superbowl Champs they would eventually be with 32 1st downs to the Pat’s 17, Manning threw for 100 yards more than Brady and the Colts garnered nearly 150 more total yards than New England.  Nevertheless the score was 34-38.  The Pat’s defense was firing on all cylinders, but just could not stop the Colts in a few key plays that would have changed the outcome.

pats.jpgNow lets fast forward to this Sunday and take a look at the season thus far for each team:

Brady has thrown for 2,431 yds and 30 TDs compared to Mannings 1,833 yds and 13 TDs.  Randy Moss has 47 receptions for 779 yds and 11 TDs compared to Reggie Waynes 44 receptions for 668 yds and only 5 TDs.  As for the ground game Sammy Morris and Lawrence Maroney (or as I like to say Jabroney) have been splitting games so its not fair to compare them to Joseph Addai’s 123 carries for 592 yds and 7 TDs, but when you look at the combined rushing stats for each team, NE is far superior.  In fact NE seems far superior in just about every catagory!  The Colts are playing to win, but the Pats are playing to demorilize teams.  It’s evident in the stats, and Belichick is looking to prove that despite the fact he got caught in a supposed “cheating scandel” that is not why they were winning games, so now hes just pissed and looking to stick it to anyone and everyone.  colts.jpg

The bookmakers currently have the Patriots road favorites at -6 with an over/under total of 56.  This is a huge slap in the face to the Colts who are already feeling like the fat girl at the dance for being undefeated but still not getting the recognition that the Pats are.  Here’s a couple things to consider:  No matter what the stats say BOTH teams are undefeated and its not exactly like they both have easy schedules.  The Colts have won 3 straight games over the Pats including the AFC title game last season.  Manning is on his home turf in a dome so weather will not be a factor where as if it were in NE, Brady would certainly enjoy a slight advantage being comfortable in the fridgid NE weather. In the last 3 times these 2 have met Indy has averaged 35 points a game compared to New England’s 25 points per game.  So when you really look at it the question you have to ask is whether current stats will dictate the outcome or do you have to wipe the slate clean and go with your gut.  Giving +6 points to Indy is very ballsy for the bookmakers and very inviting to the bettors.  You almost certainly have to bet the total going over the 56 seeing as how Indy averaged 35 and New England averaged 25 which in case your not the brightest bulb in the box that equals 60 points! So personally when considering this matchup I like Brady and Co. simply because they are not only playing to win, but to make sure you remember that you just got whipped by the Patriots, while Indy seems to be more conservative and just getting by with average stats.  GO PATS!!!

23 Trent Edwards Bills @NYJ
24 Vinny Testaverde Panthers IND
25 Quinn Gray Jaguars @TB
26 Tarvaris Jackson Vikings PHI

Eli is finally for once this year ranked above his brother but that is due to the fact that Miami just flat out sucks! Griese is ranked a little high for my taste and I expect him to struggle in Detroit.  Culpepper might not start in McCown is healthy so be weary of starting him if you don’t have to. McNabb is at Minnesota and I think he might get injured, not sure why, call it a premonition.  Palmer will have a tough time against Pitt but I still expect at least 25 – 30 points out of him.

45 Kevin Faulk Patriots WAS
46 Michael Bennett Buccaneers JAC
47 Adrian Peterson. Bears DET
48 Ladell Betts Redskins @NE
49 Heath Evans Patriots WAS
50 Ron Dayne Texans @SD

I am in a tough spot this week in my league, can’t decide whether to start Lendale White of Brandon Jacobs.  White is coming into his own in Tennessee and playing hard and Jacobs is just a power house against a weak Dolphins D.  Tomlinson is a sure thing against Houston this week and he seems to be fully back in the groove.  I don’t think Marshawn Lynch will eat as much as his ranking lets on, the Jets are tired of being whipping boys. Leon Washington could be there hero and I think hes got a very good chance of breaking at least 100 yds against a less than good Buffalo D.  My sleeper this week is Jamal Lewis against the St Louis D, if you have him on your bench it my be time to consider him but don’t trade for him.  Steven Jackson is finally coming back but without an O line hes gonna have a tough time, don’t expect much.

Wide Receivers

1 Plaxico Burress Giants @MIA
2 T.J. Houshmandzadeh Bengals PIT
3 Steve Smith Panthers IND
4 Braylon Edwards Browns @STL
5 Randy Moss Patriots WAS
6 Reggie Wayne Colts @CAR
7 Santonio Holmes Steelers @CIN
8 Hines Ward Steelers @CIN
9 Laveranues Coles Jets BUF
10 Chad Johnson Bengals PIT

12 Wes Welker Patriots WAS
13 Donald Driver Packers @DEN
14 Roy Williams Lions @CHI
15 Marvin Harrison Colts @CAR
16 Torry Holt Rams CLE
17 Donte’ Stallworth Patriots WAS
18 Jerricho Cotchery Jets BUF
19 Marques Colston Saints @SF
20 Joey Galloway Buccaneers JAC
21 Muhsin Muhammad Bears DET
22 Brandon Marshall Broncos GB
23 Amani Toomer Giants @MIA
24 Greg Jennings Packers @DEN
25 Bernard Berrian Bears DET
26 Ronald Curry Raiders @TEN
27 Andre Davis Texans @SD
28 Ike Hilliard Buccaneers JAC
29 Chris Chambers Chargers HOU
30 Lee Evans Bills @NYJ
31 Arnaz Battle 49ers NO
32 Vincent Jackson Chargers HOU
33 Calvin Johnson Lions @CHI
34 Reggie Brown Eagles @MIN
35 Antwaan Randle El Redskins @NE
36 Shaun McDonald Lions @CHI
37 Marty Booker Dolphins NYG
38 Brandon Stokley Broncos GB

45 Isaac Bruce Rams CLE
46 Roydell Williams Titans OAK
47 Devery Henderson Saints @SF
48 Mike Furrey Lions @CHI
49 James Jones Packers @DEN
50 Darrell Jackson 49ers NO

Amani Toomer should be up a little higher, seeing as how there is no one to cover him in Miami and I expect him to get more than his fill of action.  Steve Smiff will most likely disappoint this week, Indy is pissed! and they want respect.  Roy Williams is rested and looking to take advantage of a battered Chicago D and he most likely will.  Any receiver on Pittsburgh roster sould be starting for you, its the same with anyone playing against the Cincy secondary.  Kevin Curtis will be a bust this week, Minnesota D effectivly limited a red hot Dallas passing game and I don’t think they get enough credit defending the pass, they will prove it this week.   Chris Chambers will play his first game as a Charger but I think it is going to be the LT show while Chambers gets into the groove of things.

Tight Ends

1 Antonio Gates Chargers HOU
2 Dallas Clark Colts @CAR
3 Kellen Winslow Browns @STL
4 Heath Miller Steelers @CIN
5 Chris Cooley Redskins @NE
6 Owen Daniels Texans @SD
7 Jeremy Shockey Giants @MIA
8 Randy McMichael Rams CLE
9 Desmond Clark Bears DET
10 Kyle Brady Patriots WAS
11 Greg Olsen Bears DET
12 Eric Johnson Saints @SF
13 Donald Lee Packers @DEN
14 Alex Smith Buccaneers JAC
15 Jeff King Panthers IND
16 Vernon Davis 49ers NO
17 Zach Miller Raiders @TEN
18 Bo Scaife Titans OAK
19 David Martin Dolphins NYG
20 Marcedes Lewis Jaguars @TB
21 Tony Scheffler Broncos GB
22 Matt Schobel Eagles @MIN
23 Jeb Putzier Texans @SD
24 Justin Peelle Dolphins NYG
25 John Madsen Raiders @TEN
26 Casey FitzSimmons Lions @CHI

If you own any of the top 10 TE’s then your sitting pretty, all very favorable matchups, but I do like Greg Olsen getting more playing time than Desmond Clark.  Also, for some strange reason I think Marcedes Lewis gets alot more targets this week as QB Gray is definantly not ready for the long ball yet. Utilizing his TE is good for his confidence and Jack Del Rio really doesn’t have any other choice.

Kickers

1 Kris Brown Texans @SD
2 Rob Bironas Titans OAK
3 Stephen Gostkowski Patriots WAS
4 Adam Vinatieri Colts @CAR
5 Robbie Gould Bears DET
6 David Akers Eagles @MIN
7 Lawrence Tynes Giants @MIA
8 Phil Dawson Browns @STL
9 John Kasay Panthers IND
10 Shayne Graham Bengals PIT
11 Mason Crosby Packers @DEN
12 Jeff Reed Steelers @CIN
13 Jason Hanson Lions @CHI
14 Jay Feely Dolphins NYG
15 Mike Nugent Jets BUF
16 Ryan Longwell Vikings PHI
17 Jason Elam Broncos GB
18 Matt Bryant Buccaneers JAC
19 Jeff Wilkins Rams CLE
20 Nate Kaeding Chargers HOU
21 Shaun Suisham Redskins @NE
22 Joe Nedney 49ers NO
23 Rian Lindell Bills @NYJ
24 John Carney Jaguars @TB
25 Sebastian Janikowski Raiders @TEN
26 Olindo Mare Saints @SF

I think Akers is the big scorer this week as far as kickers go, Minnesota will be putting the stop on them all night and in a dome stadium its hard to miss.

Defenses

1 New York Giants @MIA
2 Tennessee Titans OAK
3 Chicago Bears DET
4 Minnesota Vikings PHI
5 New England Patriots WAS
6 Green Bay Packers @DEN
7 San Diego Chargers HOU
8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers JAC
9 Philadelphia Eagles @MIN
10 New Orleans Saints @SF
11 Jacksonville Jaguars @TB
12 Indianapolis Colts @CAR
13 Pittsburgh Steelers @CIN
14 Oakland Raiders @TEN
15 Cleveland Browns @STL
16 Buffalo Bills @NYJ
17 Washington Redskins @NE
18 Denver Broncos GB
19 Carolina Panthers IND
20 New York. Jets BUF
21 Cincinnati Bengals PIT
22 St. Louis Rams CLE
23 Detroit Lions @CHI
24 San Francisco 49ers NO
25 Houston Texans @SD
26 Miami Dolphins NYG

Its almost unfair to have the Giants D against Miami, but if you own them they you must giggling like a little school girl right about now, Miami is going to be humiliated.  McNabb is always good for a few INT’s so Minnesota is looking really good and the Chargers are finally coming to life on both sides of the ball which spells trouble for Houston.  Not exactly sure why Tennessee is ranked so high this week, but if Lamont Jordan isn’t on his game then it could be ugly for the Raiders which equals points for Tenn D owners.

Keep checking back for updates as well as the fantasy player vs player props that will be posted on Saturday and available for wagering on.

NFL Week 8 Odds & Picks

Time again for my NFL odds and picks with commentary on this weeks matchups.  There are a bunch of teams on bye this week so the schedule is shorter.  Heres the matchups with the point spreads and totals:

Cleveland -3  44
St. Louis

I think this is the week where St. Louis finally gets a W.  But then again Cleveland is playing tough and Derek Anderson has been a pleaseant surprise for the Brownies.  Regardless, its do or die for the Rams and I like them to win straight up.

Detroit
Chicago -5  44

Chicago seems to have got back in the groove at least for the moment.  I wasn’t impressed with their win over Philly last week, but QB Brian Griese has taken the lead and is utilizing the pass just enough to win.  On the other side of the ball Detroit should be fresh from their bye week and ready to start winning again.  I still like “Da Bears” in this one, they will keep the momentum going.

NY Giants -9.5  48
Miami

This game is being played in England for some strange reason and I think that it might throw off the players internal time clock but only a little.  I have no doubt that the Giants will be putting the hurt on the Fins who have just lost their star RB Ronnie Brown for the season and will be forced to start the jittery Cleo Lemon at the Q and Jesse Chatman at RB.  Brandon Jacobs will have a field day running over the weakend Fins D Line.  The Giants will more than cover the spread.

Indianapolis -6.5  44
Carolina

Indy is feeling a little disrespected for not getting the same attention for there undefeated record as the Pats are and you can bet that they will earn there attention by way of humiliating the Panthers whose QB issues seem to swell.  The spread should be more like -9 so take it now while its cheap and the bookies are slippin.

Oakland
Tennessee -7.5  40.5

Tennessee played surprisingly well last week at Houston despite the fact that Vince Young is hurt.  LenDale White stepped it up and got the job done.  I see no reason why he can’t run all over the Raiders Defense as well.  Lamont Jordan is still less than 100% and the Tenn D is gaining more and more confidence and should contain the Oakland O with little trouble.  Give the points.

Philadelphia -1  37.5
Minnesota

The bookmakers are waaay off on this one.  Adrian Peterson won’t have another 200+ day but you have to admit that hes the future in Minnesota.  Philly is playing subpar and has been all season long, to favor them at Minnesota in the shape they are in is ludicris! Take Minnesota and the lousy point, they are gonna roll!

Jacksonville
Tampa Bay -3.5  32

Jeff Garcia is playing like its his last shot at greatness because hey…..it probably is.  Jacksonville has lost both their quarter backs and Gray’s performance last monday was nothing to get excited about.  The Jacksonville D gave a kind of a flash in the pan performance against Indy and I think they will struggle again against Ernest Grahm.  Tampa Bay wins by 10, give the points and take the OVER!

Pittsburgh -3.5  48.5
Cincinnati

This is a tough one…..My heart says that Palmer and Co.  will put up at least 350 total yards of offense, but in the bottom of my gut I think Pittsburgh D is going to throw a wrench in the program.  Cincinnati went to the ground last week, but I doubt they will ave the same strategy against the strong Pitt D line, and the Bengal secondary is nothing to brag about which means Big Ben will go to the air.  Expect a shootout with Pittsburgh covering the spread.

Houston
San Diego

There is no spread yet as we do not know when and where this game might be played because of the emergency evacuation in southern California.

Buffalo
NY Jets -2.5  37

This kinda spread is scary, it means that there is no faith in the Jets and they are expected to win simply because they are at home and afterall it is Buffalo, however at the same time it is a golden opportunity for bettors to take the Jets without giving a FG to cover.  The Jets should roll, but not big so the -2.5 points is perfect.

New Orleans -2.5  40.5
San Francisco

Frank Gore appearantly called out his teammates this week pointing to the fact that noone is playing like they want to win……well Mr. Gore should look in the mirror, he has been a total disappointment this year and you can’t blame it all on the O line.  Trent Dilfer is doing all he can with what he has to work with and the defense hasn’t been playing to their ability.  New Orleans is mad and they are starting to finally perform at least marginally which seems like all you need to beat the 9er’s.  Take NO and give the points.

Washington
New England -17  48

Again I say that -17 is waaay too much, I picked the Fins last week at home getting the points and sure enough Tom Brady and Co. put an end to that pipe dream.  Well I am sticking to my guns again and saying that Washington covers the spread, they are a much better team than Miami and everything is starting to gel for them, that is if you forget last weeks drubbing they took from GB.  Take the points!

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Green Bay
Denver -3  41.5

Denver has had a surge of life as of late and the whole Travis Henry scandal seems like its gone by the way side.  Still no Javon Walker, but Jay Cutler seems to be able to get it done nonetheless. The Broncos always have an advantage when playing at home because they are used to the thin air.  This will be a factor but not by much, Brett Favre looks too good and he makes the palyers around him better.  I like the Pack plus the points and over the total.

24th Running of the Breeders Cup

breeders.thumbnail 24th Running of the Breeders CupThis Friday and Saturday at Monmouth Park in New Jersey will be the 24th running of the Breeders Cup World Championships. On Friday the $1 million dollar Breeders Cup Dirt Mile will be run with the $5 million dollar championship race taking place on Saturday the 27th.

The pole positions for Saturdays Breeders Cup Classic race have been anounced and are as follows:
                                      Â
1 Lawyer Ron           Â
2 Street Sense              Â
3 Any Given SaturdayÂ
4 Curlin                         Â
5 George Washington Â
6 Awesome                  Â
7 Diamond Stripes      Â
8 Hard Spun                 Â
9 Tiago

Any Given Saturday and Lawyer Ron are the current favorites at +390 (risk $100 to win $390) with Preakness Champ Curlin coming in at +430 (risk $100 to win $430) and Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense at +475 (risk $100 to win $475).  The rest of the field will payout huge, however I think that you have your winner out of these 4 top rated thoroughbreds.

I like to pick the longshots in races like this, the potential for big upsets is huge in horse racing and it just makes sense to throw a few fun bucks at the lesser known horses like Diamond Stripes who at +1650 (risk $100 to win $1650) would make for a nice little comeup, however for the serious bettor that boxed trifecta with horses 1, 2, 3 would be my bet.

GamblersPalace.com is pleased to offer sportsbook odds for all the horses running up until Saturday morning where you will then find them listed in the Race Book section of GP.

NFL Week 7 Betting Odds and Picks

Upsets abound last week, what the hell is wrong with Seattle?  Anyways…….

Here is a list of my picks as well as the spreads and totals available for all the week 7 NFL games *(Home Teams are listed on bottom of matchup):

Baltimore -3-120 34.5
Buffalo

The Ravens have all the tools necessary to get the job done even with Kyle Boller at the helm. McGahee should be able to find the holes in the weak Buffalo D and Derrick Mason has been getting open alot! Add to the fact that the Baltimore Defense will be harrasing Trent Edwards all night and it seems like an easy pick. Buffalo had their chance at glory against the Cowboys and blew it so I don’t expect them to turn things around any time soon.

Arizona
Washington -8.5 36

The Skins are coming off a dissapointing loss to Green Bay in a game where Jason Campbell was doing everything without a supporting cast to back them. Now they are back at home and hopefully refocused. 8.5 points seems like alot but when you see that Arizona doesn’t have a quarterback at the moment with Kurt Warner going down last week leaving unproven Tim Rattay in the top spot and then the point spread isn’t that high. Washington wins by 2 TD’s at least!

Atlanta
New Orleans -9 42.5

The bookmakers have it all wrong here! Take ATL and the points as soon as you can! Last weeks win in Seattle does not vindicate the Saints nor was it the turning point in their season, Seattle simply played very poorly and Holmgren is a terrible play caller thats all. Atlanta is coming around quite nicely considering that fact that they had to rebuild the team around Harrington, Jerious Norwood is getting better and better every game Harrington and Roddy White have created chemistry. I like Atlanta to win straight up.

Minnesota
Dallas -9.5 46.5

Dallas got thumped last week by a superior Patriots team and I gotta think that it really hurt their egos. Minnesota is coming off a huge game over Chicago and they are feeling good and playing good….at least Adrian Peterson is, the defense will also be all over Romo. I like Minnesota plus the points and over the total.

New England -17 51.5
Miami

Its the classic matchup of a 6-0 team versus a 0-6 team. The spread is waaay too high. I don’t care how good the Pats are you can’t give a home team double digit numbers on the spread. I have no doubt that New England will win, but by posting a spread that high you are just making the Fins angry! Plus its about time that something good happened for Miami they are due. Take the points.

San Francisco
NY Giants -9.5

San Fran is lost right now, Alex Smith is shaky, Frank Gore is completely ineffective. The Giants on the other hand seem to be firing on all cylinders. Burress is playing excellent and Manning is on target. The running game is strong although Brandon Jacobs is making me nervous. Nevertheless I like the Giants to ROLL!

Tampa Bay
Detroit -2.5 44.5

I like Detroit fresh off their bye week. They are a good team this year despite what the critics say and Jon Kitna is playing like its his last season….it very well could be. Hes got a great support cast around him and the airel attack is always a good matchup against Tampa. On the other side of the ball Jeff Garcia is surprising everyone with his 103.5 rating and you can never count him out. Regardless, I like Detroit at home to get back on track and get to the postseason.

Kansas City
Oakland -3 +105 37.5

Oakland got thumped last week, but Lamont Jordan wasn’t 100% and LT was on fire. This week they host the storied rivalry with KC and if everyone is healthy they should be fine. LJ can be contained because unlike the Begals, the Raiders actually do have a decent Defense. Personally I think the Raiders should start Culpepper, I have a feeling that this will be a ground and pound game with low scores and its gonna take some attitude as well as some finess. Bet Oakland and give the points at plus money.

NY Jets
Cincinnati -6 47

Cincinnati played horribly last week and gave Kansas City a reason for being. At home I think they are quite good but when the Jets come to town you gotta pay attention especially when your Defensive secondary couldn’t cover a lineman going out for a pass and they have Jerico Cotchery and Laverneous Coles going deep on you. I think its going to be a high scoring game in the air so over 47 is definantly appealing, and the 6 points is alot to give the angry Jets team.

Chicago
Philidelphia -5.5 41

Chicago has officially been taken off my post season list. The change at quarter back came too little too late and the Defense is all banged up. You can bet that a semi healthy Brian Westbrook has been watching last weeks game film and picking out the same holes that Adrian Peterson found. Philly will roll on these scrubs.

St. Louis
Seattle -9 40

I am soo disgusted with Seattle’s play last week that I almost like the Rams to cover. If Seattle can pull their heads out of their ass’s then they should have no problem whipping these guys, but Seattle has been a little schitziphrenic lately and they have lost my confidense. At the present time I like Seattle to win but not cover the spread.

Tennessee -1 38.5
Houston

I think this spread is the same as a pick’em the -1 is just to scare the square bettors. Vince Young is less than 100% after straining his quad last week so it seems that a running game is in order and Houston does not fair well against the run. The fact remains that Houston is a tough team and I like them at home. Take Houston and the meaningless 1 point.

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Pittsburgh -3.5 39.5
Denver

Denver is in a world of hurt right now. Javon Walker will never be 100% this season and Travis Henry is staring down the barrell of a suspension for testing positive for Marijuana, the defense is giving up way too many yards on the ground. Pittsburgh has been all business this year except for that Arizona debacle and they reputation for beating Denver in the mile high city so I like Pitt giving the points and over the total.

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Indianapolis -3 44.5
Jacksonville

Indianapolis is not the same team as last year, yeah they are undefeated but that is all coming to an end and what better place than to a division rival and on Monday Night Football. David Garrard is playing superbly and the Defensive is very confident and able. Manning hasn’t posting the kind of numbers we expect and that is much of the reason noone is paying much attention to the fact they are undefeated. They are due to fall, bottom line! Take Jacksonville and the points as well as the money line.

I see big fantasy points from all top 5 QB’s this week, their matchups are just waay too favorable.  Also look for Jeff Garcia to put up some numbers against the Detroit D who are 3rd in most fantasy points allowed.  I think David Garrard is going to have a great game against Indy and he should probably be a little higher on the list.

I think Joseph Addai is ranked a little too high this week, the Jacksonville D is wise to his game and they will shut him down.  If Brandon Jacobs can keep from hurting himself I think he will have a great game against San Fran who is having trouble on both sides of the ball.  With Vince Young less than 100% the focus will be on the run game and Chris Brown might be hurt so Lendale White is my sleeper pick this week to get 2 maybe 3 TD’s when they are in the red zone.

I expect both the Bengals and Jets receivers to eat and I mean eat BIG!!! The Jets can’t bring pressure on Palmer which gives him plenty of time to find Ocho Cinco or Houshmanzadeh, while the Bengals Secondary is comparable to a high school team which makes Cotchery and Coles invaluable.  Arizona reciever owners may be disappointed on Sunday and its not because of Washingtons Defense, its because Tim Rattay is at the helm.  I don’t trust him.  I’ll say it again Wes Welker will have a breakout game this week. (I hope)

Nick Folk is #1 this week simply because he has proven he can kick the long ball under pressure in an open air stadium and I think the Minnesota D will stop Dallas in their tracks keeping them out of the endzone and forcing the field goals. I also think that Morten Anderson will get quite a few reps sunday as well as the Falcons O doesn’t get into the endzone that often.

Trent Edwards will be facing Ray Lewis and Co. for the 1st time on Sunday and I don’t think he has any idea what hes getting into.  Baltimore D is gonna eat him for lunch.  Also I think it is a little harsh to have Minnesota D so far down the list but if they make the correct adjustments they should be just fine against Dallas who I think is having a moment of reflection at the moment and may still be a bit groggy from their beatdown last week.  Seattle D should get you some points because they don’t have to worry with Steven Jackson no where near active status and they are pretty good against the pass.

Keep checking back for updates as well as the fantasy player matchups available for wagering on and will be posted on saturday.

UFC 77: Hostile Territory Odds

UFC 77 will be held this Saturday, Oct 20th at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. The headlining fight will be a rematch for the World Middleweight Championship between hometown hero Rich “Ace” Franklin and brazilian superstar Anderson “The Spider” Silva. Silva dismantled Fanklin in the first bout at UFC 64 knocking the former champ out in the 1st round! This time around Franklin will be fighting on his home turf and with the added support from fans comes added pressure to win. Silva has only gotten better with time and he looks deadly. 8 of his last 10 fights have been over in the 1st round, he just goes in and trys to hurt you! Franklin on the other hand is just getting back to form and his last 2 fights were anything but convincing.

franklin.thumbnail UFC 77: Hostile Territory OddsCurrently the bookmakers have Silva favored -220 (risk $220 to win $100) with the comeback on Franklin at +170 (risk $100 to win $170). Normally I wouldn’t pay anything over -200 on UFC but Silva just looks so damn tough that I think he is gonna crush Franklin! silva.thumbnail UFC 77: Hostile Territory Odds

Heres the odds on the undercard and keep checking back as I will be adding my picks:

Heavyweights
Tim Sylvia +130 (risk $100 to win $130)
Brandon Vera -165 (risk $165 to win $100)

Middleweights
Jason MacDonald +180 (risk $100 to win $180)
Yushin Okami -240 (risk $240 to win $100)

Middleweights
Alan Belcher +115 (risk $100 to win $115)
Kalib Starnes -145 (risk $145 to win $100)

Holyfield vs Ibragimov Title Fight

When will Holyfield just let it end!!! Touted as the most important Heavyweight fight of 2007, 4 time Heavyweight champ Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield will travel to Moscow, Russia to take on WBO defending champ Sultan Ibragimov on Saturday October, 13.  Holyfield will attempt to break the record by holding the championship belt for a 5th time!!!holyfield Holyfield vs Ibragimov Title Fight

The 2 fighters weighed in today with Holyfield coming in at 211.5 while the champ just just under 220. The mere age differance is enough to give you an idea of the outcome.  Ibragimov is 32 almost 13 years the junior to Holyfield who will be 45 next week!

ibragimov Holyfield vs Ibragimov Title FightThe Russian looks waay too fast for the old man whose last 4 wins came against less than recognized fighters and are no where near the talent of Ibragimov.  Some wonder jsut how long the fight will last and knowing Holyfields never quit attitude, worry that he may get hurt in a permanent sort of way.  I am one of those who feel this way.

The bookmakers also seem to share my view as the current odds on the fight have the champ at -500 (risk $500 to win $100) while an unlikely win by Holyfield would pay out +250 (risk $100 to win $250).  The fight is scheduled for 12 rounds however the over/under on total rounds has been set at 10.5 instead of the usual 11.5, this would indicate that the handicappers don’t have faith in the fight going the distance.  It would be very probable that Holyfield gets knocked out as I really can’t see him being able to compete with the champ physically, I’m sure hes got it on the mental side of things but will his 45 year old body be able to handle the punishment that this grimey Russian has been dooling out to every opponent hes faced so far.

Week 6 Fantasy Football Power Rankings

Week 5 was nothing short of disappointing for me. I admit I had a few things backwards but hey! Its not like I’m beeting my picks. at least all the time. He He He Anyways, heres the week 6 power rankings and hopefully my visions of clarity will redeem me from last week:

Quarterbacks

1 Tom Brady Patriots @DAL
2 Tony Romo Cowboys NE
3 Carson Palmer Bengals @KC
4 Brett Favre Packers WAS
5 Matt Hasselbeck Seahawks NO
6 Kurt Warner Cardinals CAR
7 Derek Anderson Browns MIA
8 Donovan McNabb Eagles @NYJ
9 Eli Manning Giants @ATL
10 Vince Young Titans @TB
11 Matt Schaub Texans @JAC
12 David Garrard Jaguars HOU
13 Brian Griese Bears MIN
14 Philip Rivers Chargers OAK
15 Jason Campbell Redskins @GB
16 Chad Pennington Jets @PHI
17 Joey Harrington Falcons NYG
18 Daunte Culpepper Raiders @SD
19 Damon Huard Chiefs CIN
20 Gus Frerotte Rams @BAL
21 Jeff Garcia Buccaneers TEN
22 Steve McNair Ravens STL
23 Drew Brees Saints @SEA
24 Cleo Lemon Dolphins @CLE
25 David Carr Panthers @ARI
26 Tarvaris Jackson Vikings @CHI

Vince Young keeps selling himself short and in turn he is holding himself back. I was hoping to have him in the top 8. *Prediction! Donavan McScrub whoops! I mean McNabb will sustain a season ending injury from the Giants D line. His time is over, hes old and fragile, just let it end! Watch for Matt Hasselback to redeem himself this week against a very shaky New Orleans D, I would expect 20 – 30 points out of him. I know alot of the Derek Anderson optimists out there don’t want to here this, but I think he is going to get shut down this week, Miami has to win a game sooner or later, and I doubt that with Cleo Lemon at the Q that it will be the Miami’s offense that wins it for them.

48 LaMont Jordan Raiders @SD
49 Adrian Peterson Bears MIN
50 Mike Sellers Redskins @GB

I think this is the week that LT finally gets one of those 35 – 40 point games that I have been waiting for all year, he finally started getting some touches against a tough Denver D last week and I highly doubt that the Raiders will shut him down this week. Brandon Jacobs made a huge splash in his return last week putting up 17 – 20 points depending how your league is setup. His knee didn’t seem to bother him at all which means hes all business this week against an Atlana D that seems pretty ineffective most of the time, he should put up huge numbers. Sammy Morris should have a great game against Dallas if the Dallas D plays anything like they did against Marshawn Lynch, but I doubt it and this will most likely be a shootout between Brady and Romo, not much ground game.

Wide Receivers

1 Randy Moss Patriots @DAL
2 Plaxico Burress Giants @ATL
3 Terrell Owens Cowboys NE
4 Steve Smith Panthers @ARI
5 Braylon Edwards Browns MIA

50 Ernest Wilford Jaguars HOU

If you are wise enough to have had the foresight to pick up Bobby Engram a few weeks ago or just have the dumb luck that he is still available on the waiver wire pick him up!!! There is literally no one else to throw to in Seattle, everyone is hurt, Engram is a guareenteed 15 points or more. Look for Braylon Edwards to come up short against Miami. Should Anquan Boldin play this week, he will be chomping at the bit for the ball after a 2 week vacation, and the way that Kurt Warner is playing he can pass all day long on the Carolina secondary, Boldin will have a huge day!

Tight Ends

1 Antonio Gates Chargers OAK
2 Jason Witten Cowboys NE
3 Kellen Winslow Browns MIA
4 Benjamin Watson Patriots @DAL
5 Tony Gonzalez Chiefs CIN
6 Chris Cooley Redskins @GB

21 Marcus Pollard Seahawks NO
22 Quinn Sypniewski Ravens STL
23 Bubba Franks Packers WAS
24 David Martin Dolphins @CLE
25 John Madsen Raiders @SD
26 L.J. Smith Eagles @NYJ

Marcus Pollard is ranked waay too low, with the shortage of receivers in Seattle you can bet that he will have at least 5 receptions. Now that Greg Olsen is healthy I see him taking over the role he was drafted for and I see less and less playing time for Desmond Clark, Olsen is a sneaky pickup off the waiver wire and will have all your buddies cursing you out and praising you for your genious at the same time.

Kickers

1 Kris Brown Texans @JAC
2 Nick Folk Cowboys NE
3 Matt Stover Ravens STL
4 Stephen Gostkowski Patriots @DAL
5 Mason Crosby Packers WAS

21 Nate Kaeding Chargers OAK
22 Olindo Mare Saints @SEA
23 Matt Bryant Buccaneers TEN
24 John Carney Jaguars HOU
25 Dave Rayner Chiefs CIN
26 Mike Nugent Jets @PHI

I see Ryan Longwell playing a pivotal role for Minnesota this week, the Bears held off Favre so how hard do you think it will be for them to shut down Minnesota, Longwell may be their only option of scoring. Also just because Kris Brown kicked a game winner last week doesn;t mean hes the second coming of christ or anything so don’t read too much into it.

Defenses

1 Minnesota Vikings @CHI
2 Seattle Seahawks NO
3 Chicago Bears MIN
4 Baltimore Ravens STL
5 New England Patriots @DAL
6 Tennessee Titans @TB
7 San Diego Chargers OAK
8 New York Giants @ATL
9 Jacksonville Jaguars HOU
10 Arizona Cardinals CAR
11 Green Bay Packers WAS
12 Philadelphia Eagles @NYJ
13 Tampa Bay Buccaneers TEN
14 Washington Redskins @GB
15 Kansas City Chiefs CIN
16 Houston Texans @JAC
17 Dallas Cowboys NE
18 Oakland Raiders @SD
19 Cincinnati Bengals @KC
20 New York. Jets @PHI
21 Atlanta Falcons NYG
22 St. Louis Rams @BAL
23 Carolina Panthers @ARI
24 Cleveland Browns MIA
25 Miami Dolphins @CLE
26 New Orleans Saints @SEA

I have to give a little giggle because in one of my leagues I have both the Minnesota and Seattle Defenses. The only hard part is deciding which one to play. I also like the Baltimore D to build some self esteem at the expense of the dismal St. Louis offense.

Big Yankee Changes?

Think its time to except the fact that the Joe Torre era is over. It is sad, but all good things must come to an end. For Yankees fans its been a great run, I mean 4 World Series in 5 years aint bad, but at the same time now you have a win or die attitude towards the very team you are passionate about. The team is crucified by the Al Ross of baseball George Steinbrenner everytime they lose a game, and then he tells the press that if the torre Big Yankee Changes?Yanks lose the series then Torre loses is job. What kind of shit is that!!! Its the way its always been in the Yankee organization, now add to the fact the senoir Steinbrenner plans to pass the torch to his sons Hank and Hal, can you image the ego on those guys when your father is George Steinbrenner. Not only will the 2 little George’s completly rip ravage and pilage that team, they will probably end up sueing one another to get the other guy canned. A-Rod your outta here! Posada get your shit and get out! and Clemons pack your bags! They don’t need these guys, they do need to rebuild both the team and the attitude around there. Bringing in LaRussa would be ideal, Mattingly definantly will not get it, the little George’s want to bring in a fresh body and shake things up so whatever happens you can expect new blood at the helm next year. Let me reiterate that no one should be surprised in the coming events and changes that will take place in New York because you heard it here first!!! But definantly let go of all your wet dreams about Joe Torre managing the Yankees in 08′.
