Green Bay at Minnesota Divisional Rivalry

favre1.thumbnail Green Bay at Minnesota Divisional RivalryDivision rivals meet again when the Green Bay Packers led by a newly invigorated Brett Favre travel to the Metro Dome to take on rookie sensation Adrian Peterson and a stingy Minnesota Defense.  Coming into the game Brett Farve has surprised many fantasy football owners this season by putting up 861 yards passing and 6 TD’s in the first 3 games of the season.  He has already broken the record for most wins by a QB and has his sights set on all the passing records.  Meanwhile on the other side of the ball, Minnesota is in a real slump, Peterson’s production continues to be a flash in the pan runner and inconsistent, while the QB position seems up for grabs between Tarvaris Jackson and Kelly Holcomb who could be looking at his first start of the season this Sunday.  Currently the spread is Green Bay -2 with the total at 38.  Based on the current uneasiness of the Minnesota Offense I gotta take the Pack  and the under on this one.  Brett Favre looks like he did in the 90’s and he’s got plenty of talent to spread the ball around to, Minnesota D has proven they can stop the run, but are they up to the challenge of the Big Cheese, I don’t think so…….peterson1 Green Bay at Minnesota Divisional Rivalry

22 Derek Anderson Browns BAL
23 Steve McNair Ravens @CLE
24 Matt Leinart Cardinals PIT
25 Damon Huard Chiefs @SD

It’s no surpirse that Brady is ranked #1, when you go 78 – 88 passes in the first 3 weeks, its pretty hard to deny the fact that NE is headed for another superbowl.  A big disappointment was Matt Leinart being benched in place of the veteran Kurt Warner, many fantasy owners were looking for Leinart to brak out in his sophomore season, but it seems he lacks the leadership skills to get the job done.

Running Backs

48 Tony Hunt Eagles @NYG
49 Kevin Faulk Patriots @CIN
50 Mewelde Moore Vikings GB

LT is ranked #1 again this week despite the fact that he has yet to really have a great game when compared to last season.  Fantasy owners including myself that thought they had hit the jackpot with the first pick getting LT are a little irritated to say the least, especially if you don’t have a strong backup.  The bright side is that now the Chargers are 0-3 and they will have to fight hard to make the playoffs which means that LT will not be seeing the bench early this year towards the end of the season like last year in which you had to have his backup to fill the time.  Lamont Jordan has to be the sleeper pick of the year so far, I know I got him with 13th pick and was heckeled at the time, but now it seems it was ingenious.

 Wide Receivers

1 Randy Moss Patriots @CIN
2 Steve Smith Panthers TB
3 Terrell Owens Cowboys STL
4 Chad Johnson Bengals NE

48 Donte’ Stallworth Patriots @CIN
49 Jason Avant Eagles @NYG
50 Craig Davis Chargers KC

Javon Walker seems to be the biggest bust at the WR position as he has so far put up less than average points.  Its hard to blame Walker when you got Jay Cutler throwing the ball, hes a scrub, but nevertheless Walker will have to produce this week are get dropped down to a 3rd or 4th WR instead of the 1st position that he was drafted at.  To everyone that has a St Louis receiver, I feel for you, who knew that Marc Bulger would struggle so much and that the O line would be so inept.  They will continue to show low numbers, unless they are playing against the Cinncinatti Defense.

Tight Ends

1 Antonio Gates Chargers KC
2 Jason Witten Cowboys STL
3 Kellen Winslow Browns BAL
4 Benjamin Watson Patriots @CIN
5 Todd Heap Ravens @CLE
6 Jeremy Shockey Giants PHI
7 Tony Gonzalez Chiefs @SD
8 Dallas Clark Colts DEN
9 Alge Crumpler Falcons HOU
10 Owen Daniels Texans @ATL
11 Heath Miller Steelers @ARI
12 Desmond Clark Bears @DET

14 Donald Lee Packers @MIN
15 Chris Baker Jets @BUF
16 Randy McMichael Rams @DAL
17 Greg Olsen Bears @DET
18 David Martin Dolphins OAK
19 Bubba Franks Packers @MIN
20 Marcus Pollard Seahawks @SF
21 Leonard Pope Cardinals PIT
22 Alex Smith Buccaneers @CAR
23 L.J. Smith1 Eagles @NYG
24 Visanthe Shiancoe Vikings GB
25 Daniel Graham Broncos @IND

I’m sticking with my pick from last week, I think Owen Daniels is on the verge of a 20 point game, he just needs a chance.  Also look for Alge Crumpler to finally start putting up some respectable numbers as Joey Harrington gets more and more comfortable him and Crumpler will be hooking up alot more, as seen last week against Carolina.

Kickers

1 Adam Vinatieri Colts DEN
2 Jeff Reed Steelers @ARI
3 Matt Stover Ravens @CLE
4 Nicholas Folk Cowboys STL
5 David Akers Eagles @NYG
6 Stephen Gostkowski Patriots @CIN
7 Robbie Gould Bears @DET
8 Nate Kaeding Chargers KC
9 Jason Elam Broncos @IND
10 Neil Rackers Cardinals PIT
11 Josh Brown Seahawks @SF
12 Mason Crosby Packers @MIN
13 Shayne Graham Bengals NE
14 Jeff Wilkins Rams @DAL
15 Jay Feely Dolphins OAK
16 John Kasay Panthers TB
17 Jason Hanson Lions CHI
18 Kris Brown Texans @ATL
19 Joe Nedney 49ers SEA
20 Lawrence Tynes Giants PHI
21 Mike Nugent Jets @BUF
22 Sebastian Janikowski Raiders @MIA
23 Matt Bryant Buccaneers @CAR
24 Phil Dawson Browns BAL
25 Morten Andersen Falcons HOU

Kickers……Basically I would look at Jeff Wilkins, St Louis can’t get into the endzone, so they keep kicking FG’s, at 3 points a kick, its not hard for Wilkins to put up close to 20 points a week.

Defenses

1 Baltimore Ravens @CLE
2 Pittsburgh Steelers @ARI
3 Chicago Bears @DET
4 San Diego Chargers KC
5 Green Bay Packers @MIN
6 Minnesota Vikings GB
7 Dallas Cowboys STL
8 New England Patriots @CIN
9 Houston Texans @ATL
10 Indianapolis Colts DEN
11 New York. Jets @BUF
12 Philadelphia Eagles @NYG
13 Miami Dolphins OAK
14 Tampa Bay Buccaneers @CAR
15 Seattle Seahawks @SF
16 Carolina Panthers TB
17 Oakland Raiders @MIA
18 San Francisco 49ers SEA
19 Detroit Lions CHI
20 Atlanta Falcons HOU
21 Denver Broncos @IND
22 Kansas City Chiefs @SD
23 Cleveland Browns BAL
24 New York Giants PHI
25 Arizona Cardinals PIT
26 Buffalo Bills NYJ
27 St. Louis Rams @DAL
28 Cincinnati Bengals NE

Chicago D owners have to be feeling a little uneasy with all the injuries they suffered last week against the Cowboys, I expect them to start slipping in the rankings as they have already failed to get better and are in a static mode, now with injuries I only expect them to go down.  Green Bay’s D is a pleasent surprise to compliment the newly invigorated offense and they look hungry, as they completely shut down the Chargers last week.

Keep checking in for updated rankings and commentary every week of the fantasy season.

Sunday Night Football Dallas at Chicago

dallas1 Sunday Night Football Dallas at ChicagoTony Romo has been lighting up the opposition quite handidly these past 2 weeks however, this Sunday night they will be traveling to Chicago to take on “Da Bears” whose defense seems to be steady and unforgiving.  I would expect much less output from the Dallas O as they will be truly tested and give us a little more insight into what they are capable of the rest of the season.  Currently the spread has Chicago favored -3.  This could be a trap for many bettors who see Dallas as an unstoppable force and giving them the 3 points is just icing on the cake.  The only piece of the puzzel that has everyone vexed is the Rex Grossman anamoly.  He can be so good at times and look like a superbowl caliber quarterback and then the next week he can be absolutly dreadful having Chicago fans screaming for blood.  Basically I would take a real long look at the moneyline and decide what to do before I bet anything.  Also the total is at 41 points, thats the average points that Dallas has put up in the last 2 weeks on their own!  Obviously they will not score as much this week against the top rated D, but then it all comes back to Rexy and whether or not he will come to play.  Bottom line, Dallas can get it done, but its up to the Chicago O to make it a game.bears Sunday Night Football Dallas at Chicago

Definantly be weary of Marc Bulger this week, he got pummeled last week and his O-line is very suspect and they don’t seem to be improving.  The Tampa D is nothing special but they are a professional team and the pressure will be on Bulger not the D.  Another QB to watch is Drew Brees, so far hes been a disappointment and last year looks like a fluke, if he can’t get it done on Monday night then think strongly with replacing him with say…Derek Anderson. LOL

This will be the week that LT comes to play, I mean if Derrick Ward can rush for nearly 100 yards against Greenbay, then imagine what LT is gonna do to them, don’t lose faith hes not bust this year…..yet! Another guy to watch is Frank Gore, with the passing of his mother last week it was understandable for him to have a less than expected week. This week is the funeral and I don’t expect him to be any better off yet add to the fact that Pittsburg’s defense has been moving up in the world and I kinda gotta think that it might be a good idea to bench him this week if you have a competent backup.

Wide Receivers:

Wes Welker would have been a steal if you had the presense of mind to pick him up as a 4th receiver.  His performance last week against San Diego had many fantasy owners on the waiver wire the next day frantically trying to pick him up.  Although Dante Stallworth is the #2 in New England I could definantly see him putting on the pressure for the spot especially if he has another breakout game against Buffalo which is very possible.  Pick him up if everyone else in your league are scrubs and haven’t tried to already.

Tight Ends:

1 Antonio Gates Chargers @GB
2 Kellen Winslow Browns @OAK
3 Todd Heap Ravens ARI
4 Jason Witten Cowboys @CHI
5 Benjamin Watson Patriots BUF
6 Chris Cooley Redskins NYG
7 Jeremy Shockey Giants @WAS

27 Donald Lee Packers SD
28 Daniel Graham Broncos JAC
29 Greg Olsen Bears DAL
30 Reggie Kelly Bengals @SEA
31 Chris Baker Jets MIA
32 Tony Scheffler Broncos JAC

Owen Daniels is a risk that could pay off big if Matt Shaub can keep it together this week against the Indy D.  He should be on the waiver wire still and if you can stomach the gamble on him pick him up now.  He will be an attactive alternative to an injured Andre Johnson.  Also don’t everyone get all wet thinking about Kellen Winslow, it is still a relatively inexperienced QB throwing to him and when you think about it, everyone looks good against the Cincinnati secondary so don’t put too much stock into Derek Anderson.

Kickers:

1 Jason Elam Broncos JAC
2 Robbie Gould Bears DAL
3 Jeff Reed Steelers SF
4 Adam Vinatieri Colts @HOU
5 Jason Hanson Lions @PHI
6 Josh Brown Seahawks CIN
7 Jeff Wilkins Rams @TB
8 Nicholas Folk Cowboys @CHI
9 Nate Kaeding Chargers @GB
10 Shayne Graham Bengals @SEA
11 Mason Crosby Packers SD
12 Lawrence Tynes Giants @WAS
13 David Akers Eagles DET
14 Neil Rackers Cardinals @BAL
15 Shaun Suisham Redskins NYG
16 Kris Brown Texans IND
17 Matt Stover Ravens ARI
18 Phil Dawson Browns @OAK
19 Jay Feely Dolphins @NYJ
20 Stephen Gostkowski Patriots BUF
21 Rob Bironas Titans @NO
22 Joe Nedney 49ers @PIT

27 Sebastian Janikowski Raiders CLE
28 Rian Lindell Bills @NE
29 Ryan Longwell Vikings @KC
30 John Carney Jaguars @DEN
31 Dave Rayner Chiefs MIN
32 Morten Andersen Falcons CAR

Kickers are kickers, basically look at the team that has the lowest red zone conversion ratio and that kicker will be getting you 3 points a kick all day long, this is the primary reason Jason Elam is ranked #1, Denver can’t get in the end zone!!!

Defenses:

1 Baltimore Ravens ARI
2 New England Patriots BUF
3 Chicago Bears DAL
4 Pittsburgh Steelers SF
5 Minnesota Vikings @KC
6 San Diego Chargers @GB
7 Green Bay Packers SD
8 Philadelphia Eagles DET
9 Denver Broncos JAC
10 Carolina Panthers @ATL
11 Kansas City Chiefs MIN
12 Jacksonville Jaguars @DEN
13 Oakland Raiders CLE
14 Indianapolis Colts @HOU
15 New York Jets MIA
16 San Francisco 49ers @PIT
17 Miami Dolphins @NYJ
18 Detroit Lions @PHI
19 Atlanta Falcons CAR
20 New Orleans Saints TEN
21 Dallas Cowboys @CHI
22 Washington Redskins NYG
23 Arizona Cardinals @BAL
24 Tampa Bay Buccaneers STL
25 Seattle Seahawks CIN
26 Houston Texans IND
27 New York Giants @WAS
28 Tennessee Titans @NO
29 St. Louis Rams @TB
30 Cincinnati Bengals @SEA
31 Cleveland Browns @OAK
32 Buffalo Bills @NE

If you have any New England offensive players on your team you have got to be smiling right about now.  The Bills are so off kilter in every aspect that all of last years progressions have gone by the way side, they suck!!! Minnesota is still not getting thet if  respect they should and will be tested this week against LJ and the withering Chiefs, but if the Houston D can contain LJ then it is reasonable to think that Minnesota will crush their spirits.

Stay tuned and I will have updated rankings and reviews each week.

#1 USC vs Washington State

usc #1 USC vs Washington Statewsu #1 USC vs Washington StateThis Saturday night the Cougars of Washington State will travel to the Coliseum to take on the Trojans of SC.  Currently USC is favored by an astounding 25 points!!!  This is a sign of total disrespect to the Cougs who have established themselves as a team with an aggresive passing attack that should be taken seriously by opponents.  USC on the other hand is a basically a well oiled running machine that controls the line of scrimmage.  I would look at the total going over definantly it what should be a shootout in the air by the Cougs and a ground and pound approach by the Trojans.  Neither team can stop each other, so while WSU might not win, they will definantly cover the spread, take the Cougs +25 and parlay it with the total going over.

Another Food Re-Call – Dole

Another food recall has hit the states AGAIN!!!! Now its Dole and they recalled all their bagged salad named “Dole Hearts Delight” back as it was tested positive for E.Coli. The bags were sold in the U.S and Canada with the label “best is used by” September 19, 2007 and the product codes for the recall are “A24924A or A24924B” stamped on the package. A store in Canada tested it and came back positive. This terrible bacteria can cause Stomach cramps and diarrhea “which can be bloody” and most people do recover within a week, but if they are not taking treatment it can take longer and up to 2 weeks, but in younger adults and elderly people can be life threatening problems. AT this time there have been no reports of any illnesses. If you or anyone you know that has these packaged salad bags with the above products codes on there, contact the Dole Consumer Center at 800-356-3111. The following states were sold the salad bags “Canada’s Ontario, Quebec, Maritime Provinces, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and neighboring US states per Dole. The president “Eric Schwartz of Dole does state his concerns in a press release and is working with the FDA to address any health problems if reported.

Here is a list of some recent recalls in this year alone!!!

Lead Paint Prompts More Toy Recalls (Sept. 5, 2007)
Salmonella Spurs New Spinach Recall (Aug. 29. 2007)
Pet Food Salmonella Sickens Humans (Aug. 29, 2007)

Belichick Cheating Scandal

EVERYONE STOP!!! ESPN shut your traps, Eagles players shut your traps, anyone that is up in arms about Bill Belichick having someone video tape defensive signals in an attempt to “cheat” SHUT YOUR TRAPS!!!

belichick Belichick Cheating Scandal First of all, this is nothing new in the NFL or for that matter ANY professional sport.  For example, in Nascar every pit crew is doing everything and anything to make their car better than the competition in some aspect as long as it is within at least the grey area of the rules.  Sure guys get caught, they get caught all the time, but that is the way it is and everyone knows it.  In football it is no different, quarterbacks and coaches spend hours and hours a week watching film of opposing defenses to see how they line up and try to recognize the packages they are facing.  Sure you could say that actually putting one of your own guys on the other teams sideline is a bit overboard and pretty nonchalant but its not as if he was planting a spy on the other team to steal playbooks and give the quarterback a water bottle full of exlax.

The fact is is that all teams do something to try and get the edge on their opponents the only difference here is that Belichick was sloppy in his methods and should have been a little more subtle.  HE GOT CAUGHT.  Thats the only reason that this whole “scandal” has made such waves in the media, more than a couple of professional players have committed on the so called “spying” saying that it is normal and part of the game.  ESPN should be ashamed for even entertaining the idea that this could have an effect on Belichick’s place in NFL history.  This changes nothing, because he really didn’t do anything despicable that tarnishes the sport or even the Patriots as a franchise.

Commissioner Goodell  has decided that monitary penalties will be the punishment for Belichick who has to pony up $500,000 of his own money as well as another $250,000 from the Patriots organization.  This is an unprecidented fine for a coach who basically took all tools available to him to get an edge and get the WIN, which all that anyone can expect of any organization.  Now if $750k wasn’t enough, the Pats will also lose a first round pick next year!!! To me this is overkill and boarderline nazi of the commissioner, he is trying to set an example, but this is too much.

I think it is time for the powers that be to just let these guys play, if someone plays smarter and harder they should win, just like a coach, coaching harder and smarter he should win.  This latest “scandal” in professional sports will not change anything, coaches will still be looking to cut corners and get that edge even if it means hoovering in the grey area of the rules. Anyways this whole media waste of time will have no effect on the Pats as they host the Chargers in a rematch of the playoffs last year, I expect it to be a grudge match with lots of fireworks. The current line is New England -3.5 with the total at 46.5.  I gotta like the Chargers plus the points as LT is jsut beginning to come alive and Phillip Rivers is spreading the ball out to a more than competant receiving corp.  I really just need to LT to light them up cause hes on my fantasy team.  HeHeHe.

Another Soccer player Dies

Tuesday 28, 2007 Spanish Soccer player Dies after Collapsing on the Field aug2807 antoniopuerta getty Another Soccer player Dies Sadness has fallen on world wide soccer players as another one passes away. Antonio Puerta a 22 year old soccer player was at his prime when all of a sudden he collapsed on the field during the Spanish league match against getafe. After several minutes from collapsing close to his teams goal he walked off the field and looked okay as was treated by the teams doctors, but shortly after that things went wrong again, and then had a heart attack in the locker room and was taken away in the ambulance and then had another one in the emergency room in Seville hospital where he was taken shortly after his second ordeal. Come Tuesday things got worse and he then died. Sevilla was scheduled to play at the AEK Athens on Tuesday in the second leg of Champions League qualifying but the match was postponed. The game all in all was pushed back until notice after UEFA – AEK and the Sevilla team discussed to do so because of the death of football player Antonio Puerta and the tragic events from the fires in Greece. AEK had already requested the game to be postponed before this had happened for the fires in Greece and the lives of 64 people that were taken during the fires in a 5 day period time frame. This is just terrible news, seems like across the world things are happing and lives are being taken. It’s a shame!!!! The young soccer player was born in Sevilla and played for Spain’s National team and he was the one who scored in the win over Espanyol in May UEFA Cup finals and a goal that led his team over Schalke in the semifinals of the 2006 UEFA Cup. The sad thing about it is this will be player number 3 that has died after un-expected collapsing. Benfica’s Miklos Feher feher adn Another Soccer player Dies did in 2004 and Carmeroon midfielder March-Vivien Foe Another Soccer player Dies at the 2003 Confederations Cup in France being carried off the field Another Soccer player Dies There has been other situation’s like this with other sports players like NBA forward Reggie Lewis Another Soccer player Dies and NFL lineman Korey Stringer Another Soccer player Dies .
