On the wife swap a family from Michigan the “Allemons” Diane is 44 years old and husband Bernie is 38 and they have 2 children, Ben 14 and Allie 12 years of age. This family doesn’t like the idea of everything being perfect as there are no perfect people. They enjoy being average and go with the flow and try to enjoy each day without stress. They are little people and Diane believes beauty is on the inside then the outside. Bernie uses his small stature to his advantage and gets side jobs in entertainment and promotions dressing up like a leprechaun or sports mascots. Diane doesn’t sweet the small stuff and doesn’t push her kids to do good in school, well that is not good. There is no bed time in the house and cleans house every other day. Bernie motivates his kids using money offering them 70 dollars for an A and even a 50 for a C. They couple have a close romantic relationship and teach there kids that average is most they need to strive for.
The Johnson family who live in Ohio strive on being perfect. Melissa (33) the mother is a bodybuilder and says perfection is the only thing that is worth achieving in life. Hum “what about your kids”. Melissa’s husband is 35 years old and they have (3) boys, Kane who is 13, Kohl, 12 and Kolin 10. All these boys are in sports and have no time for themselves or friends. Melissa has them all in sports and makes them eat nothing but healthy food. She spends no time with her kids and she wakes up at 3:30 am in the morning to start her work-out and then starts breakfast off with protein shakes for the family and egg whites. I understand about being healthy but she takes it a step to far. She was Ms. Northern Natural USA and is obsessed with working out and personnel I think women that are to big don’t look good at all they look like men and she wasn’t exactly a good looking girl either and add big bulky mussels to that. No No No. The husband kind of does his own thing and watches the kids play there sports. Melissa teaches her kids that perfection is everything and she demands they get straight A’s in school. She also sets out perfect clothes for them to wear to school. Scott has no balls and doesn’t stand up to his wife at all and follows in her steps. She constantly threatens to take everything out of there room if they come home with bad grades. They are hardly ever rewarded for there good work they long for simple things in life like a cell phone. Scott admits that he feels inferior to the men in Melissa’s fitness competition and competes with her about everything in life
Both families are about to meet there new member and both the ladies sit down and read the rules of each house. Melissa couldn’t believe that Diane teaches her kids that being average is okay and the house was not clean. Diane reads Melissa’s rules and says there is no such thing as being perfect and I am not going to like it here. She gets upset and walks down stairs to where the work-out room is and sees pictures of Melissa on the wall of herself and starts to cry and losses it and tears up some pictures and takes down the rest. Melissa meets the family is a bit surprised to see that they were little but Bernie kept the humor in it. Both ladies start their venture in each home and they both start to live the first week of the rules of the house. Diane is having a hard time with the rules in the house because she is short and can’t reach in the washer to wash the clothes for the family. She has to clean house and prepare the healthy food for the family. Melissa is also having a hard time with the rules of the house of Diane and in not cleaning up only every other day having to cook a dinner with all kinds of calories and she even has to eat it. They all have to sit down and eat dinner together as a family and Melissa is not use to that. Diane makes dinner and everyone comes in the kitchen grabs there plate and takes off to their rooms and Scott says it’s the way it is here and Diane starts to cry as she feels alone and left out. She is really having a hard time dealing with all this. Now comes time for the rules to change to what they want it to be and boy were there some yelling going on in both homes.
Melissa changed the house rules and states the Bernie, you are more interested in being a buddy to your kids than in giving them the structure and strong guidance that they will need in order to achieve their goals. It’s time to set a better example for your kids. You’re going to be the Team Captain. In order to be winners, you need to give your body the fuel it needs for maximum performance. There will be no more candy, no more sugar, no more fast food. It’s time for protein bars, protein pudding, and lean, mean meals. You should strive to be the best in everything, and that includes your home. From now on, beds will be made, dishes will be done, and this floor will be spotless. You don’t just hang out in the fun room, you live there. The fun room is off-limits. Striving for excellence in sports takes discipline. From now on, it will be all fitness all the time. Focusing on building your bodies will help you focus on other goals. Bernie, you will organize a game of kickball with little and average-sized people. Bernie flips out and the kids as well because she took the fun room away where they get to dress up like someone and play. Bernie starts to tell Melissa you don’t know what its like to be a small person and he is right now that one, but should demand more respect from his kids. After a few days go by Bernie realizes that he should be more respected by his kids and was actually feeling good about him self in working out and actually being apart of a team and game. They lost the game and Melissa was upset but she was okay in how they tried. For Diane she changes her rules to the following: With all this competition and worrying about your physical appearances, you have lost the ability to have fun. I am making this house a competition-free zone. There will be no more sports. That even includes watching it on TV. We’re taking all trophies down and sticking them in the garage. The only thing that you don’t seem to have on your schedule is having fun. I’m banning the gym and installing a fun room downstairs. I’m stocking it with costumes, and we are all going to dress up and entertain people in a non-competitive way, as mascots. Scott, all your time with Melissa is at the gym. It’s time to start relating to your wife as a woman. We’re going to relax, have fun and enjoy our time together and hopefully you can do the same with your wife when she gets back. Food is for enjoyment, not for fuel. I’m taking out the protein bars and I’m putting in the candy bars, and I’m going to make us a tasty dinner that we will eat together as a family. Of course Scott freaks out and the boys were a little unsure about things but they looked forward to getting to eat candy. They said it will be hard for them not to be able to do any sports, but they will try. In the end this family was having a lot of fun getting to eat candy and getting to do things they want to do. Scott starts yelling as Diane hide his remote control so he couldn’t watch the game on TV. He got all in her face and actually scared the poor lady as he looked like he wanted to hit her. He was yelling all through the house and walking around and took off to where he can go watch the game. After a while he came back and broke down and Diane looked into his eyes and said “you scared me” and he just fell and couldn’t believe he did that to her as she only had known him for a week. After all that was said and done both families did learn something. Bernie learned to get more respect from there kids and the kids actually have there won chores to do and Bernie makes sure they do it well and Diane also learned to make there kids try harder in things. Melissa really didn’t want to learn in Diane’s world and was just so objective when it came time for both families to meet. Scott learned that sitting down as a family to eat is very good and the boys loved it a lot and thought it was cool of him taking pictures of them cooking and being involved. Hopefully what they learned they will continue to do it. Until next week for another episode of the “Wife Swap”.
