Atlanta Falcons at Cincinnati Bengals
Both teams are coming off last minute hard fought wins. The Bengals bounced back from two consecutive losses got it done against the Panthers. The Falcons got it done against the defending Superbowl champs in an exciting 41-38 overtime win at home. It was a huge win for the Falcons and they are back in the NFC South race.
Michael Vick threw the ball down the field and looked really accurate and sharp last week and will have opportunities to stand in the pocket and throw down the field against a soft Bengals secondary. It’s hard to believe that we are talking about Michael Vick a pocket passer!
Carson Palmer got off to a slow start this season and was nowhere near producing last year’s breakout numbers. He looked and played great against the red hot Panthers team. His game winning drive in the fourth quarter was awesome!
This match up will come down to QB play which favors Carson Palmer, I think he’s just the better QB and the fact that his WR’s are better helps.
Current Odds are Bengals -4.5 and the total is 43.5
Pick: Take the Bengals -4.5, M Vick won’t play great two weeks in a row.
Baltimore Ravens at New Orleans Saints
Both teams are coming off much needed bye weeks. Ravens quarterback Steve McNair was knocked out of his last game with a Grade 2 concussion and neck sprain. McNair is scheduled to start unless his bean starts giving him problems
Ravens head coach Brian Billick fired his friend and offensive coordinator Jim Fassel and will take control of the play calling. With Fassel gone look for the Ravens to run the ball more often with Jamal Lewis. He’s too big to only average 3 yards per carry.
New Orleans is rallying behind rookie coach Sean Payton, has done a great job balancing his weapons on offense, especially running backs Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush. The balanced running game has giving QB Drew Bress time to throw the ball down the field. This offense is impressive and should be able to put up point on a very tough Ravens Defense.
Current Odds are Saints -2 and the total is 36.5
Pick: Take the Saints -2 and over the total. Baltimore’s offense sucks.
Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans
The Texans are coming off their best performance of the season, and Gary Kubiak’s second victory already matches Houston’s win total from last season. David Carr and Andre Johnson are really producing this year behind Kubiak’s offense.
Tennessee returns from a bye week and are ready to get young QB Vince Young his second win of the season. Travis Henry is filling in for Chris Brown and is coming off a HUGE game. Young has shown the confidence and maturity that’s needed on the field.
Current Odds are Titans -3 and the total is 41.5
Pick: Take the Titans -3. Vince Young is from Houston and has something to prove.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles
Both teams are coming off big losses. Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb had two interceptions returned for a touchdown last week and a 62-yard field goal at the gun to lose the game. McNabb had a nightmare 2nd half and will bounce back.
The same cannot be said for Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich; he looked terrible last week and has a bum wheel. The guy couldn’t even move out there and should have been on the bench. His mobility may be limited all season and it may be a time to bring on a healthy David Garrard. Philadelphia’s aggressive defense may be too much for Leftwich.
Both teams have three losses and this is a must win for both squads
Current Odds are Eagles -6 and the total is 43
Pick: Bet the under 43. Philly should jump out to an early lead and sit on it.
Seattle Seahawks at Kansas City Chiefs
This game is an all pro cast of injured players. Seattle Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck sprained his right knee and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks. Kansas City Pro Bowl quarterback Trent Green has been cleared to but won’t be ready for game action until mid-November. Seattle All-Pro running back Shaun Alexander broke his foot 4 weeks ago and he says he’s ready to play but the doctors won’t let him.
Back up quarterbacks Damon Huard – KC and Seneca Wallace – SEA, will battle it out and the QB with the best game should win. Both teams are in trouble and another loss could be devastating. The Chiefs are on the way up and Seattle is on the way down in a hurry.
Look for KC to pound the ball with Larry Johnson and break down a Seattle Defense that just gave up 38 points to the Vikings.
Current Odds are Chiefs -6 and the total is 38.5
Pick: Bet the Chiefs -6. They will thump the Sea Chickens at home
Arizona Cardinals at Green Bay Packers
Dennis Green returns to Lambeau Field with a warm weather team. Rumors out of Arizona are saying this is a must win for Dennis Green to keep his job. This team has talent and is not producing on either side of the ball. They just got thumped by the Raiders. Yeah the Raiders.
Rookie quarterback Matt Leinart is the only thing worth talking about in Arizona, the kid has game and can flat out play. This week, Leinart will get a good look at Brett Favre, the type of passer the he would love to be.
Favre is having a huge year, the reworked offensive line, better running game, and a new downfield go-to guy in rookie Greg Jennings. Favre is loving life right now.
I see this game being a shootout, Farve and Lineart will have big games, 4th quarter defense will determine the winner.
Current Odds are Packers -3.5 and the total is 44.5
Pick: Take the Packers -3.5 and bet over the total. Dennis Green will lose his job this week
San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears
The Bears are coming off a much needed bye week. Arizona gave them all they could handle in Week 6 and should have beaten them. The Bears’ offense and defense both were outplayed and were lucky to escape with the MIRICLE victory.
The honeymoon is over for Rex Grossman; he completed 4 passes to the other team and lost two fumbles. He flat out stunk up the field all day.
The 49ers also are coming off a bye and you can bet the watched the table against the Cardinals 50 times. Their offense is built much like the Cardinals and should have some success moving the ball. With that being said, I think DA Bears will get back on track with a blowout win at home.
Current Odds are Bears -16.5 and the total is 41.5
Pick: Take the Bears -16.5. Alex Smith will be running for his live all afternoon.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Giants
Tampa Bay is ridding high with two wins in a row against two potential playoff teams. Both were last second victories and were both won with a rookie QB at the healm. Matt Bryant’s 62-yard field goal to beat the Eagles was amazing.
Tampa Bay head coach Jon Gruden has his squad just 3 games out of the division lead and are starting to talk playoffs again in Tampa Bay. The Buc’s defense has been playing great the last two weeks and will have their hands full when Eli Manning comes to town.
The Giants are now a half game ahead of the Eagles in the NFC East. A Giants victory on Sunday will keep them in the hunt, a loss will be devastating because Philly has an easy match up this week.
Tiki Barber will be the difference maker in this game, if he can find room running the ball outside it will be a long day for the Bucs. If the Bucs hope to win they need to stop the run pressure Eli Manning. This will be a defensive battle.
Current Odds are Giants -9 and the total is 41
Pick: Take the Giants -9 and 41 with a 6 point 2 team teaser. Tiki Barber runs for 125 yards with most of the yardage coming in the 4th quarter to protect the lead.
Saint Louis Rams at San Diego Chargers
The Chargers lost to the hated Chiefs 30-27 on a last-second field goal. To add salt to the wound Shawne Merriman, their best defender, tested positive for steroids and will be suspended for 4 games. The only thing in their favor this week is they will be playing at home.
The Rams tied for first in the NFC West and are sitting at 4-2 on the season. The Rams are coming off a bye week and will be ready for the Chargers. The Chargers D will have its work cut out for them without Merriman; The Rams know this and will look to pound the ball inside with Steven Jackson. I smell an upset!
Current Odds are Chargers -9.5 and the total is 45
Pick: Take the Rams +9.5. They are playing too well to lose by 10¼br
Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos
Two elite teams get it on in Denver in what could be a preview of the AFC Championship Game. The Colts passing attack led by Peyton Manning is on fire. They more than made up for the loss of Edge in the off season.
The Colts will face their toughest challenge to date Sunday against the Broncos top rated defense. They stop the run and slow down the passing game. It will be interesting to see if the Broncos can stop the Indy passing game.
The Broncos will have to break away from conservative offensive approach this Sunday if they want to win the game. Denver will need to score about 24 points to win the game. Indy is too good at protecting leads. Jake Plummer will have to step up his game and get the ball down field to Javon Walker to keep up with the Colts. This is a must see game and perhaps the best match up on week 8.
Current Odds are Broncos -3 and the total is 39.5
Pick: Take the Broncos -3 and bet the over 39.5. Nobody wins in Denver, not even the Colts.
New York Jets at Cleveland Browns
The Jets and Browns we both poor teams last year. Cleveland is still in the dumps and New York is off to a good start behind QB Chad Pennington’s repaired arm. Everyone though Chad was DONE! Don’t believe it, he is putting up Pro-Bowl type numbers this year.
The Browns have been terrible this year, Ruben Droughns has been a disappointment and so has the entire offense. The offensive coordinator just got the boot and head coach Romeo Crennel and assistant Jeff Davidson will do all the play calling for the rest of the season. Will that create a spark for a team that desperately needs one? I doubt it.
Current Odds are Browns -2.5 and the total is 38
Pick: Take the Jets +2.5. The Jets should be favored.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Oakland Raiders
Ben Roethlisberger banged up his bean on Sunday and had to hand the ball over to Charlie Batch. Batch came in and moved the ball at will against the tough Atlanta Defense. He looked better than Big Ben has all year. He should get the start this week and should have a huge day. The Steelers need to win and should be able to get it done in Oakland.
The Raiders are fresh off their first victory of 2006 as they beat Arizona 22-9. Rookie QB Andrew Walter left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury but will be good to go this Sunday. The rookie QB will take over for the rest of the season and Aaron Brooks will back him up when he’s healthy. This Sunday will be a tough test for the rookie QB. The Steelers defense is better than they showed last week in Atlanta.
That being said, the Steelers should dish out an old fashion whipping.
Current Odds are Steelers -9 and the total is 38.5
Pick: Take the Steelers -9. Oakland is the worse team in the NFL¼br /> Dallas
Cowboys at Carolina Panthers
The Cowboys and Panthers were preseason favorites to play for the NFC Championship. Now both teams are average and are faced with must-win situation. Both teams already have three losses, including two against NFC foes, which could become significant come playoff tiebreaker time. A fourth loss Sunday night be fatal
Coach Bill Parcells finally heard enough boos and benched veteran Drew Bledsoe in favor of crowd favorite third year back up Tony Romo. Romo came in and completed his first pass to the wrong team. He went on to throw 2 more int’s and a pair of touch down passes. Not bad? Better than Drew? I’m not buying it
Carolina had won four in a row before last week’s heartbreaking loss at Cincinnati. On third-and-goal and down by three, quarterback Jake Delhomme completed a pass in the end zone to the wrong team and lost the game. Don’t count on that happening again.
This is a tough game to pick, both squads are carbon copies of each other and Dallas has more talent on paper. Quarterback play will decide this game. Romo will start for the Cowboys.
Current Odds are Carolina -5 and the total is 41
Pick: Take Carolina -5. Starting Romo over Bledsoe is a mistake.
New England Patriots at Minnesota Vikings
The Patriots are quiet 5-1 going about their business with a bunch of no name offensive skill players supporting Tom Brady. Brady has had to be creative on offense utilizing his TE’s and possession receivers regularly. The loss of Deion Branch was a big unnecessary mistake.
Veteran Corey Dillon and rookie Laurence Maroney have provided a nice balance of power and speed in the running game and have given Tom Brady time to find open receivers in down the field. The lack of a go to receiver limits Tom Brady’s production.
The Vikings are on fire! The defense has been awesome and the offense is moving the ball consistently. Running back Chester Taylor has been the work horse and Quarter back Brad Johnson has been protecting the ball. They destroyed the defending NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks last week and will be looking to make a statement against the Patriots.
Current Odds are Patriots -2 and the total is 38.5
Pick: Take Patriots -2. The Pat’s are 5-1, enough said.
