(10)Ohio State Buckeyes vs (3)Texas Longhorns
8:00 PM ET, January 5, 2009
University of Phoenix Bowl
Phoenix, AZ
FOX
Spread: Texas -9.5
Total: 53.5
My Pick: Texas was hoping to be in Miami right about now for the BCS Championship game, but they will have to settle for the Fiesta Bowl. They will put their faith in Heisman candidate QB Colt McCoy whose 3400 passing yards, 32 TD’s and 77% completion average has had the Longhorns flying high all season except for a freak loss at Texas Tech that would ultimately keep them out of the National Championship game. Ohio State was in the top 3 earlier in the season, but a few key losses along the way shattered any hope of another Championship run. QB Terrelle Pryor is the key to their success, he is a very mobile QB that is not afraid to run, but can also sit tight in the pocket and make a throw. The Buckeyes are not that pass happy and with RB Chris Wells and his 5.7 ypc average they don’t have to be. Their defense has been playing well of late and I think they make the right adjustments to slow down McCoy and Co. The spread is high against a Buckeye’s team that knows how to get into the endzone and they have the defense to back them up. I think that Texas wins just because McCoy is soo good, but I don’t think they cover and this will be one of the more tight games going down the stretch. Take the points.
