(25)Ole Miss Rebels vs (7)Texas Tech Red Raiders
2:00 PM ET, January 2, 2009
Cotton Bowl , Dallas , TX
FOX
Spread: Texas Tech -5
Total: 70.5
My Pick: The Red Raiders are staring down the chance to have the winningest year in the history of their football program and much of the credit goes to Senior QB Graham Harrell whose 4700 yards passing and 41 TD’s with only 7 INT’s has been the center of their game plan ranking 2nd in the nation in passing yards per game. WR Michael Crabtree is the main threat to the Rebels secondary, but they cannot take their attention off of Detron Lewis whose 12.2 yards per catch can easily burn an unsuspectiong defense. The Rebels shot into the top 25 with convincing wins over LSU and Miss State by a combined 76-13 points, so you know their defense is on hit after shutting down 2 pass happy and usually successful teams. The main star on the Ole Miss squad is Senior WR Mike Wallace who is averaging 20.1 yards a catch. If QB Jevan Snead can get him the ball it could spell trouble for the Texas Tech defense who has been known to give up some points. Ole Miss is riding a 5 game win streak and they are capable of putting up the numbers, but I’m not sure they have faced an offense like this before so I am a little weary. Texas Tech can easily score, but not sure their defense can force the 3 and out when it counts. I think the Red Raiders win it, but the Rebels keep it close and cover the spread. Take the points.
