Central Florida Knights with an overall record of 8-4 and 2nd place on the Conference USA East division marches on to the 2009 St. Petersburg Bowl presented by Beef ‘O’ Brady’s against Rutgers Scarlet Knights with an overall record of 8-4 as well and 4th place on Big East Conference. Looks like an even challenge for both teams, they share the same record overall and both are well balanced teams.

Central Florida Knights won five of their last six games to earn a bowl invitation close to home. This will feel like they are actually playing with home field advantage and that is always a plus when it comes to big games like this one. The passing yard game will be the only stat that the Knights a little favored, the rest are virtually even so anything can happen in this particular game. Players like QB Brett Hodges, RB Brynn Harvey, RB Jonathan Davis, WR A.J. Guyton and WR Rocky Ross will be the strongest point for the Knights, they need to go airborne if they want to have some leverage on this game. The Knights have an average of 26.3 points scored and 20.7 points received so it all comes to the momentum Central Florida built to be able to gain a spot in this bowl.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights coach Greg Schiano, a former Miami assistant, has been trying to make inroads into Florida to bolster the Scarlet Knights’ recruiting efforts. They have advertised allover Florida to pick up talented players over there as well but it is a rough market and they need to keep at it before they get good players. Rutgers was right behind teams like Cincinnati, West Virginia and Pittsburgh so they didn’t do it that bad for an unranked team, they only lost against ranked teams and that says a lot about their conference. They average a great 27.5 points scored and only 17.4 points received which is pretty good, great difference ratio and it needs to keep going like this if they want to have a fighting chance. QB Tom Savage, RB Joe Martinek, WR Mohamed Sanu and WR Tim Brown will be the leaders on offense and they could make it, all they need and to run the ball against UCF and defend like crazy, the best team on defense will be the winner and that could be Rutgers because they allow less points.

GAME ODDS

CENTRAL FLORIDA 44½
RUTGERS -3 -105

THIS IS NOT THE BEST BOWL OF THE SEASON, ACTUALLY IT DOESN’T EVEN RANK IN THE TOP 20 IN IMPORTANCE, NONETHELESS BOTH TEAMS WILL PLAY TO WIN AND AS A MENTIONED BEFORE, THE BEST DEFENSE WILL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE AND WIN THE GAME. MY PICK WILL BE RUTGERS -3 -105.
